Or maybe the trial is so hard that most members of a group die even as they explore their *feels* for each other.

Anyway, I'm voting for Ambassador's Child for our next character. :smug:
Where were you at character creation?

:argh:

I'm in favor of continuing as Rain if we die here, btw. I hope it won;t happen, but you never know.

Edit

I was busy with some IRL stuff, and I want to summarize my reason for worrying about Sophie and not Rain. It makes more sense to worry for our big sister whom we roped into this adventure against her will, and who seemed to react very poorly to it. As far as we know, Rain is back in Scotsfield, enjoying her baby formula and nap time, and blissfully unaware of our Bohemian LSD trips in the desert and monster hunting safaris with Grandma Tlalli. That is to say, our little girl is good to go, while Sophie might not be.

Thank you for your patience through my many flops.

Closing votes. C seems to be the backup choice and takes it after the flops.

edit: Hm, but I can see the flops working out in E's favour too. Let's leave it open for a little while longer.

Nah. B has the least number of overall votes, and can't win, so it's the option that flops.

You can see it clearly should one more vote be added to C and E.

...in fact, flop to C.

Wha--? I mean, I didn't like thinking nothing when prompted for what should be framing the challenge, but would it actually work like that, or are you yanking our collective chain by alluding to phobias acquired in the course of previous LPs? Thinking nothing was the right choice back then... but then again, that DEMONZ sought to harm us and twist our desires to take over.

Oh yeah, I didn't mention that possibility, did I? Think of someone and something wearing their form will shortly appear to lure you down a bad end.

If you think of no one then no one will be there to lure you to a bad end?

Possibly. Or something will still appear but it is much harder to mislead you since it doesn't have bait to work off of.

Or you spend eternity walking in the void, so lost in the now that you never notice that you are walking in circles, with no incentive to break you out of the rut. :M

I mean, our GM might be trolling, but if he isn't, it says "avoided" right there.

Hopefully the girls will be as lucky as we are.

Otherwise, we just got them killed or gave them severe psychological damage for nothing. :M

...please elaborate?

I mean, even if we assume that thinking of one girl would allow us to join efforts, there was no way to keep them both around.

lol. you don't get it.

the choice was probably (maybe) about who gets to join us, or whom we really care about the most...

but that doesn't mean they really will join us. it could all be an illusion.

and what will go on in the girls' minds? what choices will they face and what consequences?

will one or both end up unable to wake up from this nightmare?

I'm just saying that we really should have been more careful about coming along with some weird cult when we didn't have to.

It’s the popamole RPG mindset, the entire world revolves around the player and everything is a handy quest.
IRL no one sane will accept and no one who has read Lovecraft would do it in a fantasy setting, supposedly.
Nevermind that Tlalli told us that her astra used to be powered by sacrificing children or that we encountered a cannibal resembling some kind of demon, let’s trust a bunch of savages just because.
The hilarious part is that if their religious beliefs include sacrificing little children to some dark abomination they can even consider themselves very generous by allowing us to join their exclusive cult.

Goodbye Rain, Sophie, Liz we barely knew ya.

Then they don't deserve to accompany us anyway? :M

I don't know what else to say. Yes, it's an RPG mindset. Or rather, an epic fantasy protagonist mindset. Of which we are one. The most fun encounters result from taking "sidequests", by which I mean poking our nose where it didn't belong and making allies and enemies alike. The best memories come from overcoming adversity.

No one sane would tell an all-powerful goddess to fuck off, but then a sane person wouldn't apprentice themselves to the Southern Maniac, and they wouldn't be a Legend.

Yes, we chose to have an acidic soul trip to earn the respect of the desert nomads. So long as we don't do something outright stupid (and I have my own suspicions what qualifies as such), I am cautiously optimistic about the outcome. Dream sequences are my all-time favorites on par with alternate timeline ones.

The only reason I didn't want to jump on the challenge is because I didn't want it to become our attitude, but I figured we are not as devoid of reason as to mash one button without giving due consideration to the circumstances of the choice. So, there we are.

How racist. +M

But we read Wells!

I agree in a sense, but we're also on an escort mission of a sort. :M

True. Which is why I initially wanted to take the challenge.

I know; this is why I initially didn't want to take the challenge. But you changed your mind, and so did I.

As far as I recall, people didn't have strong feelings about that choice, many stating they were fine with the other one winning and even having it as a backup vote. The general thought seems to have been "we can take it". And the unspoken assumption was that passing the test would be dependent on the players' choices, and if we pass, we can expect sweet loot sweaty louts and possibly make the rest of the mission easier.

It would be strange, from a quest design standpoint, to overcome a trial, and then discover that others didn't pass and the mission was a bust with no control over it*. It would be a consideration IRL, but story/quest logic works a bit differently, and it is much more impactful to lay such a choice at the feet of the players and give them rope to hang themselves.

So Kz3r0's objection doesn't really make me want to rethink my approach.

* Edit: I am not saying "that doesn't happen", but usually this happens when a situation already went bad and the challenge is in making it suck a bit less.
