I started playing again after a year or more... I lost some part of the instinct :D. My grey elven Wizard was shaping up nicely. I made him drink like silly from pools I found in the puppy cave. I got permanent invisibility. It's quite fun, but you can't compete on the Arena, which I wanted to do. So, I was just wondering how to make myself visible again... when a dwarven chaos knight killed me in the Dwarven Halls. I'm such an idiot, with invisibility I should've gone through the forest.

For future reference, does anyone know how to get PERMANENTLY rid of intrinsic invisibility, aside from drinking from pools? (Potions of visibility are a difficult option since you'd need many.)

And meh, the dwarf's quests aren't even mandatory, should've remembered this.

Gremlins at night steal intrinsics. Works for teleportitis too ( and tele control, obviously.)

I think you're thinkin' of Nethack bro, ADOM gremlins only have the water gimmick.

I recently read something on some random forum search saying that invisibility (intrinsic or extrinsic) halves all your experience gains. I have the only level 50 character I've ever had outside of DL:50 going right now (kind of too boring to finish with him, orc paladin) because I never knew that before and I always either got it from a pool or constantly wore a ring/cloak of invisibility previously.

Although the tension room of greater red wyrms, and me with Wyrmlance from a giant vault, also helped.

Yeah thats for nethack, sorry. Forgot nethack even had gremlins.

Incidently, the invis thing for xp works in reverse for enemies; if you invis and haste an enemy while you slow yourself you can get way more xp for the kill. Obviously this is a bad idea unless the thing really can't hurt you, in which case it's probably not worth that much xp anyways. But there are exceptions, like murdering something nasty that can't see in the dark or has no ranged attacks or whatever.

For intrinsic invisibility you hve to rely on pools. If you just want to do the arena, hope for potions of visibility to drop.

The arena is mostly good for the tactics skill you get from the gladiator as a reward for giving him the gladius. For a wizard, this usually means a bit more DV, but it's not massive.

Had a pretty nice Troll Barbarian going. Made it to dwarftown and decided to try and change my alignment to neutral by donating at the altar, donated to much and accidentally converted the altar. You can guess the rest. :)

Yea, died that way too. Actually after all this time playing ADoM I have probably died in all possible ways.
I have drowned, drowned in chaos piranhas, been crushed under my stuff, killed by my own spells bouncing off the walls, killed by banshee, by pools, by molochs and titans, burned, dissolved, poisoned and sickened to death, wrath of god'ded, small caved, killed by traps, doors, falling blocks...

Guess that this is the experience of playing roguelikes.

YASD is one of the funny things about playing roguelikes, even though when it sucks when it happens to good characters. Most of my deaths come so early that I don't mind due to rushing and carelessness. Late game deaths are either due to bad luck or doing something stupid (or both).

After telling myself I'm done with ADOM on several occasions, I have gotten to the point that I can easily get my character well into the mid-game. I typically die while trying to get one of the Orbs now.

Orc Barbarians are SO easy in the early game, it's ridiculous. Mighty blow against the Darkforge golems, anyone? It's actually a little boring to play them but I'm determined to beat the fucking game and they seem like a pretty sure bet.

Don't get so confident you melee ghost lords/kings, #1 cause of dead orcs and trolls after midgame. One critical hit and you die. You do get one last turn alive before you die of old age, so always carry a potion of longevity (not youth, it won't work) so you can drink it if one pops out of a wall and one-hits you while you're in tremendous blow lag with berserk tactics on or something.

Hi all just wondering if anyone knows why I can't get into the Tomb of the High Kings, I'm level 25 and have a climbing set.

Is there something else I need to do before it will let me in? I've played this game a lot before but it was a long time ago and I don't remember having an issue with it before.

It just keeps saying: "A legion of translucent adventurers, all disfigured by horrible wounds and mained in multiplue places, appears before you.
They silently stare at you. With this the ghostly legion grimly prevents your passage!"

Also a dwarf there tells me I haven't seen enough incarnations to be deemed worthy of this sacred place and to return after I've seen more death and suffering...

How many deaths do you need to enter the bug temple?

I've probably starved more than 200 in the wilderness rerolling for better signs/stats/gear/skills or more talents. I was on a bard kick for quite a while. Those fuckers tend to suck.

Awright I'm too spoiled for ADOM to be any fun after Dwarftown and I don't want to play restriction games or speedruns. If I want to play Crawl, should I use Stone Soup or not? I have zero problem with ASCII so if SS does anything gay like Falcon's Eye not showing the entire dungeon level on one screen then I don't want to use it. OTOH if SS is has better patches or something then I'll bite the grafix bullet.

None of the Crawl versions, as far as I know, show the whole dungeon level on one screen (really annoying, imo). The Stone Soup tile version is excellently implemented - easily the best graphics implementation of any roguelike. Apparently, some people have some issues with the gameplay itself, though, versus the original Crawl. I never played it enough to care, though.
