Another problem that has plagued all games of this type is the path finding. The path finding in the game is terrible. Some members of your party can find their way to a spot you choose and others can’t even though they are all standing together. In these cases it’s a minor annoyance but in combat it can spell defeat. Here’s a short example: In the rule set there exists something called Attacks of Opportunities. What this means, short version, is that your character can get a free attack against another monster/character that attempts to move past you, away from you, or cast a spell near you that are within 5’ of your character. Now picture your character being at the rear of your party trying to move its way to the front ranks to attack.
No comments are necessary

I wonder what he did towards his party members to make them attack him.

Higher rating for story than graphics? Hehe. That's a good one.

Moronic review for sure, the graphics look pretty damn good, especially some of the character models like the Balor, but the story blew chunks (the little of it that there was).

It's also funny that he complains about pathfinding in a TB combat. Also, what kinda idiot rates a feature that isn't present in a game like multiplayer, and uses that 0 score to calculate the final one?

I'll admit I didn't like TOEE much, but this just ridiculous. Perhaps someone should inform the reviewer of the error of his ways...

Graphics only 6.5? C'mon, they were the best I'd ever seen on a 3/4 overhead view.

Actually i have many more problems with pathfinding outside of combat than in combat.

The only thing i really dislike about combat is that i sometimes cannot target a character because of model overlapping.

Does he really need to make up something to hate TToE for?

I love the game, have been playing it for about 2 weeks straight, now. But with all the freaking bugs and issues, you really don't have to make anything up.

which is not really the point here. Besides, he likes the game, it's the lack of multiplayer that bothers him.

    He should be grateful.

No multiplayer equals more time spent on the singleplayer game, which in turn equals less bugs and a richer storyline. They would have had to rush things even more than they already did.

I must admit I never thought the graphics were all that good, but after taking a closer look, it does have some impressive stuff, the character animations and NPCs were fantastic.

What I think gives the impression of bad graphics are the various GUIs. The character creation one is particularly poor and as this is the first thing you do, it is probably leaving a lasting first impression on people.

The graphics are goodly acceptable. Not the best; but definitely not the worst. Stoiryw as awful. The combat rules were awesome; but the combat itself left a lot to be desired.

Not of that exuses a poor review however.

Actually, I don't think a multiplayer mode would have hurt ToEE at all. It could work really well on a LAN as essentially a D&D simulator--every player controls one PC. Given the extremely tight dev cycle on ToEE, it's probably for the best that they left the feature out (along with the many bugs such a thing creates), but it would have been very interesting if it worked right.

I thought the graphics were pretty shitty, everything was washed out and ran like stones in a blender. The animation was pretty good, but if it runs like shit it doesn't really matter. Also your pretty much restricted to 800x600 because anything else runs like shit even with top of the line computer.

1024x768 looked pretty good but anything beyond that looked too small and ran rather poorly.

The main issue with TOEE was that the pathfinding used way too much resources.

You would notice horrible slowdowns especially when you moved your mouse in combat and it had to calculate the amount of action points you had left each time you moved your mouse. It would have been a lot better if there wasn't any mouseover - and that the calculations for action points were only done after you clicked, not while you hovered your mouse around.

In fact, it slows down a lot for me at some moments, just by having all of my 5 party members to move simultaneously; if i want to quickly move around, specially in dungeon levels which are already cleared or towns, i have to select one party member and control it while the others wait. Since everyone is magically teleported into a location by just having one character enter the location, it isn't very bothersome. But 'tis a terrible problem.

Lately i've been getting lockups as well, specially in combat, when i move the screen around. I ocasionally wait up to 2 minutes or more for it to stabilize.

I had the worse pathfinding expirience ever in the temple. It was worse than Baldour Gate.

But then again i played the game with 5 druids that all had animal companions.

With a traditional party i had no pathfinding trouble.

Finnally i want to rate the rpgcodex forums.
Stories 10, News Arcticles 9 Graphics 8 , Multiplayer Bashing of morons 10 and for two things that it does not have
    Sound 0 Porn pictures 0

    The average is (10+9+8+10+0+0)/6 =62 %

Prettly low average for rpgcodex !!!!!!

You ppl must improve on your site somehow !!!!!
