Hi, I wanted some suggestions for a deep, fun and challenging mech game, strategy, rpg (no japs!), action, whatever, one where the customization options are deeper than just "better parts, I will switch right away", because good mech games are hard to find. Last one I played was Mechwarrior 4.

Really, any good, complex game, involving war machines with customization options would do the trick. Mind you complex doesn't mean shitty interface. Fuck that... forgot the name of the game... I will edit later if I remember.

EDIT: Titans of steel. That's the name.

Have you played all the MW4 expansions?

I heard Steel Battalion was pretty good if you're a heartless yuppie fuck who can afford the 500-fucking-billion dollar controller complete with vibrating force-feedback cock ring.

I will look into MW4 expansions, and I don't have a xbox, nor the money for cock ring controllers.

Mercenaries is good fun, the campaign is just as good--if not better than--the original MW4 campaign. Plus, more mechs, weapons, and options.

Truth be told, there are not that many mech games. At all. The Mechwarrior series is pretty much it unless you want obscure tactical turn-based MUDs. Who likes those, anyways? Not us.

Armored Core For Answer just came out recently, AC4 was excellent fun multiplayer and apparently in this new version they have improved the singleplayer. Has extremely strong customisation. A great action game (console only unfortunately).

For strategy, I highly recommend Battletech: Crescent Hawk's Revenge. No customisation (apart from picking which mechs to use) but it is an excellent real time strategy game, with interesting and varied missions. I also thoroughly enjoyed Mech Commander 1.

For action I recommend the best mecha game of them all - Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner (PS2 only) - but it's anime so fuck you haters.

The game and controller *regularly* go for less than fifty shipped on ebay. If I had any space for it in my apartment I'd pick it up.

About 10 years ago I loved a simple game called Xenobots. (Ultrabots in some places.) Unfortunately, I don't remember whether it had mech customization.

I remember that the old Mechforce (freeware?) game for the Amiga was fucking AWESOME. Turn based, all of the features of BattleTech including mech hand-to-hand combat, death from above, charging at full speed, overheating and damage causing massive ammo explosions, damage to various systems such as power plant and gyros were modeled accurately, everything. It also had a sweet mech builder that would let you build any mech from the ground up. (The only limitations I recall were that the mechs were all bipedal types.) Holy shit, that game was/is fucking KICK ASS.

If you don't mind screwing around with Amiga emulators and all that, give it a shot. Try to get one of the earlier versions- I seem to recall that a later version kind of sucked, it had proprietary GUI and other stuff that fucked with performance.

Apparently someone is working on a multiplatform version using Python. If that is ever finished, it will be sweeeet.

Earthsiege 2, it's pre MechWarrior 3 though. Also, MechWarrior 3.

Edit : Mechwarrior 2 trashed my computer.

Well I recommended Cortex Command in this forum. It's not a real "Mechwarrior" type of game per se, but it's got robots and mods with mechs in them. Plus it's fun to blow off the legs of mechs with high tech lasers, so you might wanna check that out

Also, crescent hawks revenge is damn hard, even the first mission will rape you the first bunch of times you play it.

EDIT: Theres an up and coming mod for crysis called Mechwarrior: Living Legends that looks set to combine battlefield style gameplay with the battletech universe, including tanks, mechs, aerotech and battlesuits. They have already completed a lot of art assets and have a few videos showing off what they have done, looks pretty awesome.

MechForce literally ruined me for all the official BattleTech games that followed it. It was, bar none, for it's time and even years that followed, the BEST mech game.

Cyberstorm 2 is pretty good also.

Titans of Steel: Warring Suns was released as freeware a year or so ago, you could check that out. It was based on MechForce, but it's fairly complicated and mechs have shields and such.

Also, speaking of Gearheads, the combat in Gearheads was based on MechForce. :)

Heavy Gear 2 is easily THE mech game. It's got it all.

Among the newer games, Armored Core series. Too bad that the otherwise great games suffer from absolutely fucktarded part balancing.

Nothing like jump jetting over a slower and heavier enemy, pivoting a 180 and shooting its head off with a gatling laser.

It's not exactly a mech game, but you still might be interested in Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri. Basically imagine the powered armor from Starship Troopers (the book, not the movie) mixed with Wing Commander and Mechwarrior and you have Terra Nova. You can outfit your armor with different weapons and equipment, command squad mates, and conduct a variety of missions. You almost always make an orbital insertion, then jump jet quickly over the terrain, fighting other guys in powered armor and larger vehicles and fixed defenses as well. Finally, once the mission is done, you have to jet over to the extraction dropship, often with the enemy in hot pursuit. It's a very fun game, with some very cool features such as remote probes, configurable multi-function displays, and wide open terrain. Anyway, it might be of interest to you.
