Why Im asking? Im looking for versus partners because Im tired of the AI. The correct troll question would have been 'do people still rank 3 over 2' because its been that way for a good while.

And Im surprised HoMM4 (or anything past HoMM3) is being mentioned because it did get much weaker reviews than 2 and 3 (on GoG at least).

Here's the idea - start a game in some virtual machine with save state function, do your part, freeze it and then send the saved VM to the next player. PBEM RPGs anybody?
