McGowan was suspended for dogpiling/harassing another celebrity and this Salva business is ancient history (I don't believe a person should be punished for the rest of their life after having served their time). :M

    Aaaand it's gone.

It did have some trouble concerning the ip.

-First of all, there is the sad fact that most people dont know apocalypse now or heart of darkness.

-people who know it, have difficulties connecting the ip as an open world rpg. Even if they are gamers and book/movie lovers at the same time, there is a hard barrier picturing the ip would work as a game, let alone an open world one.

-I myself have difficulties wrapping the concept around my head. As a linear shooter/interactive movie ala spec ops the line or telltale stuff, maybe it can work. There is lack of faith that this will work and people will disniss it as licensed product crap. Even if can work and it turned amazing, the first impression is already doesnt fit.

-and i think it would work better with the marketing tagline : "inspired by apocalypse now" instead of making a game about apocalyspe now.

Bunch od developers go on an adventure to make game on Apocalypse Now! Movie brand.
Ended up making child porn in darkweb.

Seems like they achieved perfect immersion in Apocalypse Now ! movie. Now they just need to make a game lol.

I re-watched Apocalypse Now a couple of weeks ago. It's a great film.

All right, let me see if I can piece together this bizarre, esoteric nonsense. Thirty years ago, Victor Salva was convicted of diddling a 12-year-old boy and videotaping the act. He served time in prison.

Mr. Coppola has been acquainted with Salva in the past, but refuses to get on board the Millennial-style virtue-signaling condemnation train and rave and scream about it vociferously. Therefore, he tacitly condones Salva's actions of thirty years ago, and must be shunned?

Okay. Abandoning an obscure game project no one has ever heard of on the basis of twice-removed and ancient guilt by association will make a powerful statement, I'm sure.

Haha, oh fuck what a glorious trainwreck but it had failure written all over it from the start. And a good thing, this Markland guy struck me as snake oil peddler type and the involvement of Coppola was also shady af.

To be honest, I didn't back many projects (because gaming is kind of an expensive hooby from where I come) via Kickstarter, Fig, or Steam EA. But those that I did (Hyper Light Drifter, Darkest Dungeon, Pillars 1, Battle Chasers Nightwar, Battlerite, these are some I can think of first) all came out, there was never any hassle or major issues that stopped the game developlent, and all of those games were quite fun for me, so I basically didn't miss a single backing, by that I mean that whenever I backed something, it got through development and ticked all the boxes it set out to tick. Guided by those past experiences and my love for the romanticized period that surrounded the Vietnam conflict I was thinking this is going to be one hell of a game, but yeah, I wanted something like this to play so bad that rationality went out the window.

Just for clarification. If a game is in development going through phases I consider that game to be "alive". AN never showed that much in the update department but seeing as I wanted this to become a reality I was a hopeful man, that is until the last update was posted.

I don't want to spread any kind of false information, and I never said this was the reason behind Monty's decision, just something I, myself, came up with, seeing as those updates didn't have anything to do with the game. Probably just silly me looking too hard into it. Honestly, without an offical statement regarding the status of the project the most logical thing to think of is that not enough people wanted it so it got canned, other than that I got no idea.

It's very nearly a foregone conclusion, given the content of the updates and other information that Infinitron provided.

I don't know if it is just issues on my end but I cannot access their crowdfunding site via phone/pc at the moment. If it's not only me then that means it is unofficialy official.

I'll probably never revisit this site since I only made an account today to share both info and my thoughts with all of you here seeing as they went dark concerning the whole thing. Thanks for the discussion, farewell.

Monty's uncharacteristic silence speaks volumes. I tend to agree with the thought that this virtue signalling was merely an excuse to shutter the project. Doubtful Sawyer would make a peep about this fiasco either. Faggots abound.

This is now a Monty hate thread until he appears to offer an explanation. :)

Yeah, what the guy did was ages ago, and he served his time. I'd expect the media trying to get Coppola throwing him under the bus, it's funny, Roger Avary was convicted to jail for manslaughter and there's not been any kind of hassle him getting work after he was released.

Well, then let's go right ahead and hire criminals into the police force (at least in Germany, police is chronically understaffed!), child molesters into kindergarden (understaffed as well) and pedo bears right into Hollywood (I guess good directors are hard to come by, as well?).

Wikipedia: "conviction in 1988 for charges relating to his sexual molestation of a 12-year-old male actor who was starring in one of his films, videotaping himself in the act of doing so, and possessing commercial videotapes and magazines containing child pornography."
... let's embrace him with open arms, shall we?

Nah, some crimes should never be forgiven or forgotten. People like that should be happy to get a job as burger flippers.
Their life long continued failure should serve as a signal to others, prison only as the first part of punishment.
There is a difference between making a "mistake" (say, drunk driving leading to someone's death) and being gutter trash that should be treated as such.

Too much of a risk, too much of a risk, not a risk (as a registered sex offender, this chump doesn't get to be alone with kids).

If the guy can direct money-making schlock, let 'em direct it.

This is counter intuitive when it comes to ensuring life-long rehabilitation. People need an incentive to behave, carrots before sticks.

As it recently came to light, they already do so in Berlin if the candidate has been "clean" for 5 years.

    Life-long rehabilitation is hippie nonsense.
    People don't change completely.

Yup. As I said in another thread, I miss Berlin.

You mean his sudden departure after long years of consistent posting and reliable responsiveness to Codex Alerts? That is damning. His history looks like he just posted a lot when the project went public, and then completely disappeared except for a week of randomness in September, but we know better, don't we?

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again!

Spot on. There's a massive difference between a crime caused by a desire to "have more stuff', or take revenge for
perceived wrongs, and a crime caused by an attraction to underage boys. If anyone thinks that the latter can be rehabilitated then they're living in cloud cuckoo land. I'm not sure about the burger flipping, but it's hard to look upon someone who's taken advantage of children for their own sexual gratification and think that they deserve more chances. Once a peadophile, always a peadophile.

And to keep on topic- nothing of value was lost.
