Magnus Shalefist is one of the more interesting characters in Arcanum. When you meet him, he comes across as a stereotypical Scottish highland-laddie fantasy mountain dwarf on a quest for clan honour, but it becomes more and more clear the more you adventure with him that he doesn't seem to know much about his own supposed clan's history and one random dwarf NPC even recognises him as a city-dwarf named Malcolm Schulefest, which Magnus quickly and nervously dismisses.

It seems likely that Magnus is simply a dwarven history nerd posing as a real Tolkienesque dwarf, but can you call him out on his bullshit? I've looked long and hard around on forums and in game but apart from that NPC calling him Malcolm and his general cluelesness about his clan, there doesn't seem to be any ways of pressing the issue.

    Anyone managed to do this?

Well, he did find the clan in the end. And the dwarf king himself, if persuaded out of exile to join the party will comment that Magnus is THE rightful heir to Ironfist clan. He is legit. O.G.

Only if you are a dwarf, and then he just makes up an excuse about clan differences and the conversation goes exactly the same.

It's really not satisfying even when it gets proven (by going to a certain location - can't remember which), he's just like "meh whatever." And before that he just denies it in multiple instances.

He's really one of the most annoying characters I've ever had the misfortune of having in my party. A whiny little bitch. Fun fact: I originally did diplomacy with P Schyller and Sons, and when I talked to him outside the place, he wouldn't join my party. So I went back and killed them and then got him to join. But Troika must not have done their flagging properly because everytime his disposition would drop he would be like "Hey, you've been talking to P. Schyller and Sons, haven't you? I'm off!" And so I would have to avoid talking to him until I would do something that would make him disposition go back up. Or take him out of my party momentarily while I did something he wouldn't like.

One time he left my party because I killed some pigs.

Of course i've played. But it's the freaking Arcanum, you can't discover everything in one playthrough, even tho i did three. But with no dorfs, nope.

Magnus was an irritating character. I negotiated with P Shuyer & Sons and killed Magnus without looking back.

Using a low intelligence character really brings out the best Magnus experience.

I usually only carry Virgil with me, was thinking of trying an evil play-through but donno if it would be worth it. Maybe at last I can get Torian Kel to join me... tho not sure if that'd be worth it. Neutral technologists are just so fuggin' fun to play.

Anyone done an evil run (legit evil, not just a bit)? If so, what was your reactions?

Actually fuck it, I'll just play it anyway :D

I did the same when I played through Baldur's Gate. Upon meeting some moronic Ranger with hamster, I gently pointed out to him that he seemed somewhat insane. He attacked me. He died.

I was wondering who this 'Minsc' was after starting Baldur's Gate 2, and why he was such a familiar member of my party...

^ Did that to a few characters on my first play through of BG1. Later, I learned I can recruit them. In a subsequent playthrough I did recruit them. I realized I was right the first time around, and quickly corrected my newly made mistake.

The normal evil route is siding with the dark elves, but if you kill them Nasrudin would be your only bet to finish the game. I'm pretty sure if you try to kill Nasrudin you automatically get banished. Killing people would probably break the various ways to get to Nasrudin, though.

It was a shame you didn't get too interact with your NPC's a bit more as they were far more interesting and :obviously: than usual RPG companions. I always wanted to know more about Geoffrey Tallond Ashe. I loved that voice.
