PART XVI: WHODUNNIT, QINTARRA EDITION

6rhR3m8.png

Well, we're standing at Hardin's pass, facing the beaten crags that bar our passage into the glimmering forest

eFSUGA2.png

It's pretty confusing on your first playthrough, since you don't know which way to go and might be inclined to go north. That's the wrong way and you'll simply hug the mountain range all the way to the east.

2u0zUi9.png

You have to go south. You'll spot patches of ice and polar bears, signifying the correct path.
xqIr5r5.png

ouEvYvj.png

Hardin's pass isn't hard, but it is lively. Watch out for the ice, as well. You can slip and fall over on it.

jw8IoD3.png

wGwCXNZ.png

pdF3t8F.png

We find a barbarian body with a strange axe on it. Don't think I've ever noticed it, or picked up the axe, before.

vc6wTvr.png

More exotic fauna will attempt to impede your progress

QkNm3l0.png

aFkGOmx.png

JZCcJRT.png

Not very successfully

W91UTQB.png

And we're finally on the other side, the vast swamps and forests of the west

s7pUlrP.png

Well, we could go to Qintarra straight away, but we're still looking for that Azram's Star for someone in Blackroot. Let's head to the location she gave us, first.

xFDufKC.png

wE8WBjc.png

You enter what looks like a door with a stairway, but it ends up being a portal that transposes you into some hidden pocket of space

8C215Q6.png

There's a huge building with a collapsed roof and decrepit walls that stands there

8s88Bv0.png

My memory is very foggy on this whole part of the game. I don't remember this place, or what's in here.

w8yOGfI.png

Dear god what the f is that thing?

6odGovC.png

"Plaguish maiden"
She's armed with what appears to be a bow, and cannot attack us due to the rivulet that divides her part of the building from the main one.

S7hwNI4.png

I fire at her from the other side and she soon drops dead. We can't, however, cross over the water and loot her body. To the side of this ancient castle stand two derelict rooms. 1 has a wargunne, the other has bears. We clear out both rooms and find a 'black chest', which appears to be a normal chest like any other. Opening it up reveals very little of interest.

xGyCpgJ.png

The plaugish maiden soon rots away to leave some loot, which I can't pick up.

irqSMSD.png

I had absolutely no idea what to do here so I left the building, but that boomerang was a big clue. The whole place is a puzzle, and you have to throw the boomerang at the torches across the water to be teleported to the next part. I'd never have figured this out by myself. Well, it will have to wait until the next episode, because I only looked at the hint today.

We leave the mystical temple and travel to Qintarra. We arrive at sunset

RKcvmvc.png

pwbB68G.png

Greetings, can I come in?

UjQAyQ7.png

And we're finally here, the great tree city.

HE22xw5.png

We find some straggler loitering around on one of the platforms

3DbbAG2.png

Yes, I do travel quite extensively

pDYoT0U.png

Yes, I've visited that shithole many-a-time

She begs us to take her there and we agree ( I have other, karma reducing, plans in mind )

UubO6ME.png

How old are you?

WDrreOH.png

Isn't that too young to be by yourself?

N4dstxp.png

Alright alright, let's go then.

*15 metres away from the entrance to Qintarra*

ZUsF4up.png

My serial killer instincts have not yet receded, it seems

Back in Qintarra

dJLYbIJ.png

ZlRFQMC.png

The pleasure is mine. So, you hunt?

6WAZygF.png

Lots of hunters here?

HCx6PeU.png

I'm sure the most outdoorsman faction in the continent should be able to tell the time, of all things, with a cursory glance at nothing but the shadows of the trees themselves, but we tell him the time anyways.

ZNl05zQ.png

Could I help?

r2rxBCP.png

Done

ShzTGUG.png

Next up is Fawn

d4LuPj2.png

What do you do?

4qYC1uU.png

Alright we'll leave you to it

Up next, is Whisper

OccGzIm.png

Lord Byron

7UpD2QK.png

[tell her]

HIdvVNj.png

Yes

EQPuxJd.png

Thanks. Mind me asking, what do you do here?

W7bZy3s.png

What are you studying?

XKRS4re.png

YYlgx3d.png

What is a VW?

OUXvz67.png

Could I help?

kXM9zHI.png

Alright, I'll do that.

Aluminum is up next

QdoIugZ.png

WdlXJlP.png

Let's trade

kQE0cP9.png

>selling bullets in qintarra:lol:

We stumble upon a conspicuous group guarding what appears to be an entrance into a giant tree trunk

Xfx8Xwf.png

I don't believe we've met?

52340Ad.png

She's voice acted, btw

Z41rsE5.png

Interesting. Hey can I see the Silver Lady?

zTQWIHS.png

f8MkDl1.png

how do I convince you?

4Lm1bnk.png

Should I return later?

2AknqMp.png

so can I help you in any way?

r9qTotO.png

none taken. what's the problem?

LbWmw9M.png

WUl3lKG.png

I'll do it

Rq23FVk.png

ok, a few questions first then. What is the FA?

03O8Zls.png

4lYV5fx.png

tPbYUvu.png

0qoIrZq.jpg

anything else I should know about?

mu3BbQx.png

All clear. I'm off then.

We run into Wrath whilst exploring the other platforms.

sPxUl7S.png

Hey nice robes, man. You're a real rebel. I'm Lord Byron, adventurer extraordinaire.

zSbYO7t.png

Your name is Wrath? That's fitting.

CFx5y4K.png

Four

L1zvokw.png

Make me

usAiQ6I.png

We cross Qintarra into the last few dwellings.

huh3Zjw.png

AHH! A TALKING TREE STUMP! Ah, I mean, ahem, I'm looking for some dwarves that were banished.

Q5yzJZ0.png

You're a mage?

p6kak91.png

ArJ1GxO.png

You sound like you want to leave now

5RNwiJC.png

why agree to such a bad contract?

9pO3ITP.png

W1EAb0w.png

Perhaps I could "convince" him to release you?

YXzffkD.png

Well, good luck then.

There's another elf I missed when exploring. She meditates by night.

o4hkEal.png

Whilst we're passing by Wrath's place, I notice something very strange

9ma4YAI.png

usAiQ6I.png

"no sign of violence"

Back at the tree stump's place

jcmmvLY.png

dun-dun-DUN

You believe he killed Wrath?

BQjvfzc.png

Does that make me a suspect?

vVmOg8U.png

How was he killed, mind me asking?

F79mPjJ.png

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

What about dark magic?

XrEk7K9.png

No weapons or magic, that leaves poison right?

uZHy9XY.png

Can I speak to Jormund?

f57PQro.png

55nwCri.png

I do not think you're guilty of murder, Jor!

fKuwZMl.png

[perception success] He was killed by neither weapon nor magick. That leaves poison.

HoYmA9o.png

Sure, I'll give it a go.

Vt7yNkQ.png

I don't need your giant dildo, but I'll help out anyways.

Back at the apothecary, ie. the meditating babe's hovel, we unlock the vase and find an empty flask with traces of poison in it!

We confront her in the morning.

I'm looking for Sharpe, where is he?

vd0zXZe.png

8E2Dmty.png

[show her the vial]

gfwq55O.png

HHqq2zW.png

aYYgPLW.png

Why did he become angry?

mn5kqUp.png

He felt your were violating elven customs?

d6CNP78.png

the vial points to Sharpe's guilt

NHw3WRz.png

What do you mean by that?

ILW9alo.png

He was in love with you?

h3oOcoc.png

what happened then?

q2D05x5.png

lIuESR1.png

Z8ibg6v.png

cVw2Z9d.png

You've been most helpful!

aJe3I9q.png

Wrath killed himself. He was trying to frame Sharpe.

zBNebqv.png

Aaah, but you have not yet heard the full story of what transpired. Wrath was the one who concocted the idea of them living together. When she refused, he grew increasingly deranged and began threatening her. When he realized he could not have her, he decided to frame Sharpe for murder. Taking one of Sharpe's proprietary flasks, he distilled a vicious poison and drank it. That is when his ribcage exploded his right arm fell off. He then ran across Qintarra with the flask, unseen; he climbed inside Sharpe's house, lockpicked the vase in their house with his one good hand and planted the evidence. He then ran back to his house and finally succumbed to both the poison and the blood loss. It all fits.

OmsVTJZ.png

bD9OQAo.png

So you'll release Jormund then?

gOOpo1v.png

Any time:positive:

Geoffrey fucks off from the party. Apart from a few high level items, good riddance if you ask me

n5Svaq7.png

Are you leaving now?

rUKRpbF.png

Why don't you follow me?

pwYHRNV.png

And look at our karmametre. What heroic deeds we have committed here!

GipvSBs.png

Sharpe returns to qintarra just as his name is cleared of any wrong doing

AxJ65ZL.png

You are most welcome:smug:

Ok then, Falcon's Ache here we come. This place is so peaceful, even the gorillas don't attack.

SKHEDkR.png

what are you doin here?

We have a problem, Mr Bench

You're not supposed to be here

I'll persuade you otherwise

6lJ3pI9.png

I haven't yet told you who i represent

I'm from the CLD

QrxGAmW.png

Ok ok I lied, I really represent Gilbert Bates

R7OKLrJ.png

Elven magic strikes down the combatants immediately.

The end.

Well, actually, I've played through this part at least twice and this is the first time I've encountered a quest breaking bug here. No matter how hard I try, the elven magic kills ME even when I don't attack him. I try leaving the party away from the encounter; I try turning on turn based mode; I try shooting them from a safe distance: doesn't work. Perhaps it's tech alignment, or perhaps equipping a firearm registers as an automatic attack as soon as the combat starts. I just don't know. What I do know is that we're not getting rid of these guys.

Well, we do it the dirty way then.

MNLZicZ.png

jGaXrdx.png

This nets us a measly -5 to karma

vNBOytx.png

This way, we never get to see the Silver Lady since the door remains forever locked. There's not much to see, anyhow. She's a ghostly apparition that will go on a long, cryptic rant about burning fields, wolves and other such stuff, which Raven would interpret as Caladon being your next destination ( since they have wolves in their insignia )

If you're still interested in seeing her, here's an image from a quick google search

1473215998648

Back in my own playthrough, we loot Raven to find a note from a certain Terwilliger.

uncMd8s.png

Luckily I have great eyesight, so I spot that Sogg has dropped his great arcane sword and doesn't want to pick it back up

szzeSpc.png

Hey, Torian, anything you can share with us about this place?

Hr6XnNE.png

Virgil, what should we do next?

exsqEtI.png

Oh, and where are we right now?

zUqc8c5.png

The voice acting for that line especially is superb

The guards who are supposed to protect the silver lady tree don't mind us killing her daughter

ijw2kxg.png

And I forgot to mention that Falcon's Ache is home to the elven god altar

Y14Efnc.png

lRCXIC7.png

Well, we can go to the camp where the elf hunter disappeared

rLzesgt.png

It's home to the lizard people. No really.

And the elf is in a pit.

Poachers! I'm sorry.

F9dvjDJ.png

Make war? But it's only these men

YaEVeiy.png

You must allow me to convince you otherwise

P8yLf5N.png

I lose track of the conversation here. I think I tell him not all warm bloods are the same

I'll do it

pvl6p4U.png

zDYrdvY.png

And off he goes on the ultimate chad strut.

Anyways, I go to the poachers camp and fight them, but end up narrowly dying when their last man standing fires a critical shot with an elephant gun. I reload and restart the conversation with the killer croc once again, but this time I don't make the mistake of telling him that the cold-blood isn't the only way. I tell him that the elves are tied to the land. This leads to a different conversation.

[tell him the full story]

EfuMEtL.png

Ok, I'll do that. Hey Waromon

Lgq3Rxs.png

You wanna come with me?

hmyOi4i.png

Excellent. We're all set. Waromon is a bow and melee expert

P3gEEQy.png

who can wear a helmet

4aumEQr.png

but can't wield a sword.:|

We forget to talk to the elf before we leave the bedokaan village, damn.

Ah who cares, anyway. We'll get around to it eventually.

We go to the poachers' camp to kick their ass, but they're not there this time.

YIdfpef.png

We do discover the Bangellian Deeps on our way there this time, though

8UcxbVH.png

with much walkers rising from the swamps in a weak attempt at stifling our progress

cTP4CgW.png

In Ashbury, we heard a rumour of a stranger who spoke of coordinates. We can now visit them. On our way there, we see Kerlin's altar.

YDycQcj.png

our secret destination turns out to be called the Strange Ponds

8kiEtN9.png

It has a few of those giants we saw in the Ancient Maze ..

om0EKw3.png

and not much else. There's the one treasure chest in the middle with an unidentified chainmail and ring. We take the ring.

K7qEJge.png

On the way back we stop atKerlin's altar, which is pretty amazing since its made out of solid gold

QCUAwuA.png

r9kuAuU.png

More troika trolling

YX63uIr.png

Joke's on you troika, I have almost 50k in my wallet.

And finally we visit the Ruby Glade, the place which contains the elusive ruby guarded by some vicious beasts

MzzHPJ0.png

2QleR1u.png

As you pass the first marker stone, you're greeted by a coterie of greater demons intent on tearing you a new arse

2XmPOZp.png

I have to do this a few times until their spawn pattern allows me to turn around and escape. My friends take care of the rest.

KasnPMC.png

jPCdwn8.png

On the way back west, we get a few unique enemies thrown our way

MuR3RPl.png

I do visit the Bangellian Deeps, but I have little to no bullets, no health items, no fatigue restorers etc. It's not long before the poison traps and trash mobs force me to retreat.

Ooh is that the essence we're looking for?

XrkKGZR.png

We take 3 for good measure

jSBWaSb.png

No, that's not the essence of VW. We need the VW.

Back in Stillwater

rjN1xZh.png

I brought back the ruby!

6gktLpq.png

It was quite a task!

sFk7fT7.png

Bye bye

TaEej8n.png

So finally we circle back and wind up in Tarant. Same old, same old. Where do we go now? Well, we need Terwilliger's current status and what better place to look than in the hall of records?
We also need to sell a lot of our stuff, identify the loot etc.

What's all the rage in the town these days, anyway?

o60evFs.png

Rats, of all things. That reminds me: we still have the underground left unexplored and the mob boss un-whacked. That will be in the next episode.

Hey, Bates boy, how's it going?

g2up0YB.png

I am aware of that fact, being the one who killed him

R7W56ZQ.png

I apologize for my politically incorrect joke. I did not mean to trigger anybody. Good day to you. *Doffs hat*

Funny how you were blocked to see the dwarf king and the elven queen both by their children.

Also why didn't you killed the lizards? It would have solved the quest in an evil way, no?

Ok, I genuinely loled at how you turned a somewhat contrived but clever quest explanation and solution into a hilariously contrived excuse and blame-shifting of a murderous pc.

Couldn't bring myself to do it. I like them more than many of the other factions in arcanum. Not as annoying as the elves, more human than tarant, are far more straight-forward than the dwarves. Plus you get your own 8ft tall raptor as a companion. If you fail the negotiations and fight the poachers, you get your hands on the elephant gun as well. I probably wouldn't need it since I have a shield equipped, but still..

I guess my evil playthrough is sort of a 'decent' run, morality wise, marked by periods of intense violence. It doesn't help that there is more content stacked on the good side. You get to see more characters, visit more places etc.

In the game, you can end up with a large positive karma and yet have bad ending slides for most of the locations if you target select individuals for extermination. By now, we've doomed Tarant to complete disintegration, for example.

PART XVII: ONWARD TO CALADON

Mj1rOCC.png

So we're back in Tarant, looking for Telwilliger. Before we do that, we pay one of the wise ladies a visit.

Edit: i don't know why the text is large. Looks fine when I'm editing the comment, but switches back to size 5 in preview mode.

Her stock doesn't hold much use to us

LxcZgaR.png

We identify all of the loot. Most of it is cursed and useless. We do pick up an electric harness at the sundry store to craft a regenerative jacket.

uLfiaaY.png

It looks nice, but nothing regenerates for me. Either it needs charges, or I need a higher constitution stat to replenish my health.

At the gun store, the clerk refuses to buy our Looking Glass Rifle

9pIJgcG.png

So we go back to the Boil, to the Pollock gang. Remember the sewers entrance in his little shack? Well, we'll steal our way to Maug through there and take him out.

chi4oIm.png

This dungeon is brutal. It's straightforward, but its sheer scale and enemy count make it a very draining experience

sRi8gh5.png

KjkYUit.png

Occasionally, you're given reprieve in the form of ladders that lead back to the surface. For example, there's a secret entrance into the forbidden sewers hidden away in this nondescript storage shed not far from the docks

ItIRjnz.png

CivfaBo.png

This dungeon also likes to ratchet up the ferocity of the enemies the farther you progress. You start off with ghouls, then slitherers, then slime demons etc. It does get pretty daunting.

The layout itself is your enemy. It has a tendency to create winding paths that are longer to traverse than straight corridors. Here's an egregious example:

I0TrwD5.png

We have to run through the arch, the up and left, then back down and right, then left again. :(
This path leads to a cul-de-sac which is home to a secretive bandit gang comprised of a mage, an ogre warrior, a human warrior and a dwarf gunslinger. They're challenging in the early game, but we clear them out without any problems.

F8tIgHW.png

Apologies for not capturing the actual gang in this screenshot

The mage has a glowing robe

b9YZr31.png

:avatard:

We back up and run into this guy, signifying a sharp increase in the pain that will be dished out to your party if you go that way

zyomgMO.png

We don't need to go that way, thankfully. We won't be covering the whole dungeon in this episode; just the path to Maug's building.

YuFCm24.png

Many paths are simply there to throw you off, leading to abandoned storage rooms like this one

36uLRJc.png

I wouldn't mind so much if they at least left 50 bucks in a chest, or something. But they troll you even harder

K0kLLCp.png

Who needs any of this shit?

pFEEytw.png

thVT627.png

We finally find the right ladder and crawl into a little room inside Maug's residence

40NXr2A.png

These purple bastards are very tricky. Fortunately, the game cheeses itself if you quickly dash in and out of the hallway. They'll give chase whilst your party members clog up the doorway. They'll then land free hits on the orcs whilst the latter stand around, waiting until they're given an opening to continue chasing you.

Something similar can be done on Maug himself, although he's far less dangerous than his henchmen

A0Paheb.png

I couldn't be bothered staggering back to safety through the dingy tunnels beneath tarant, so we fight our way out instead

iX9f8tK.png

We kill one guy in the hallway whilst his buddies nonchalantly stare through the doorway

ardoUwH.png

HadG9eW.png

One thing I do like about tarant is the number of rags you can find lying around. Molotovs are handy for thinning enemy hordes, especially in tight areas.

OiBifVB.png

Dq1ReQ9.png

I'm afraid, Pollock, that within 3 minutes you will not have a gang

cMVpnQi.png

Everyone piles up into the doorway and we handily recreate our exploits in Maug's mansion. This time, however, my party isn't attacking either. They're after someone in the back line of the scrum, whilst the pollock gang is after me. A quick trip to the sewers and back up resets everyone's position and the fighting recommences.

Aaw, couldn't you at least make up now that both of your bosses are rotting in the ground? Guess not.

That regenerative jacket is absolute poo, so I put on the unidentified glowing bathrobe instead. Comfy. Smells like lavender, too.

I have second thoughts about this on my way to the hall of records; end up buying some armour for 1.5k. The junk trader at the docks has pretty superb prices for armour. We get something like 600 for our beaten chainmail and 750 or so for the robes, almost covering the price of a brand new item. I'll make sure to pick up more armour and sell it there in the future.

Fuck you too

Take me to Caladon.

And here we are.

06pVqAM.png

I don't know how I feel about Caladon. On my first playthrough, I was led to believe that it was a smaller, but incredibly opulent, version of Tarant. Once you discover it, it can be a bit of a letdown. It has a couple of notable architectural pieces decorating the landscape, the streets are wide and spacious and it's easy to get around. But therein lies the problem. It's basically one big street with a few shops, a few houses, a castle at one end and a werewolf on the other. It's not that interesting to look at, even if some of the quests here are pretty neat. All in all, it's probably the same scale as Ashbury, and that can take the wind out of your sails if you come here expecting a glimmering jewel that will eclipse the capital.

At the docks, there's a trapdoor that will take you down to the sewers, but we'll leave that for today

OYa6blB.png

There's a discarded newspaper on the main street

It's Kietzel Pierce, the bowman we found in Blackroot. He wanted us to find one of his students that had gone missing. That student is actually now a guard in Dernholm ( if I'm correct ), but this quest is only important if you want to master the bow. So we never contacted him.

I am sorry, but I did not run across him

Man I've had something like 3 playthroughs take me at least as far as the pass to the northern section of the map and this LP is the first time I've figured out how to actually cross the thing. This whole time I have just been running north until the game finally let me travel north from the main map or used a coordinate cheat to teleport across. Fucking Troika.

I remember on my first lp i did the exact same.
The other pass, the one near Caladon, is more straightforward ( but more challenging enemy wise ) if I recall.

I always liked Sebastian as a follower, though not voiced and doesn't have many interesting things to say he's a decent fighter and can make very useful stun nades.
And about the trap master in Caladon-
you can use a fate point to unlock the hatch to his training grounds, complete it and he'll reward with probably the best "helmet" for ranged characters
Also don't know if you got it, but the stones required to make the Wheel Clan key are near the lizardfolk village.

I got that stone the first time. Forgot to take it after dying in the poacher village. We'll be circling back for the ancient gods quest so we'll get it. Does the wheel clan key do anything interesting if Magnus isn't in the party?

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Funny how you were blocked to see the dwarf king and the elven queen both by their children.

Also why didn't you killed the lizards? It would have solved the quest in an evil way, no?

Ah ok, when you talked about an evil lp, I was thinking about taking mostly an evil approach to most quests rather than decent with bouts of murder

So by not talking to the elven queen you went on a different path, but the only difference is that you go to Tarant looking for Terwilliger first instead of going straight to Caladon?

When you talk to the Silver Lady, she tells you that she never banished the dwarfs and gives you a cryptic speech about wolves and burning fields. When you talk to Raven outside, you can show her the Min Gorad note that was sent to Loghaire, the dwarf king. She says that it's a Dark Elf name and tells you to find Terwilliger, who once visited Qintarra and knew of the Dark Elves and their 'home', Tseng Ang. So you end up going the exact same way that we did. Raven will also listen to your reports as you progress through the game and after you visit Tseng Ang, you can recruit her into the party.

Finding the note on her body is a faster way to achieve the same thing. So there's really 3 ways of completing this: talk to Silver Lady, kill Raven or pickpocket Raven.

Despite the game's scale, the main quest has little to no bifurcations. There were the optional quests in Tarant, where you can chose to work for Appleby instead of Bates. There will also be a big split when you find the dark elves: you will have to either throw your lot in with them, or help the Panarii religion. I never did the former so that'll be fun ( and evil! ). Although that way we never get to visit Thanatos, which is a bummer because there's a great plot twist on that island.

I believe going Evil (or perhaps just aiding the dark elves as Egosphere mentioned above) is the only way to meet Min Gorad (or virgil's mentor, for that matter,) right? He is such an ominous character. I always wanted to try for an Evil playthrough just to meet him but the lack of evil-flavored quests always killed my mood sometime before reaching Caladon.

Min Gorad can be met in T'Seng Ang no matter what. Virgil's master can also be met in good.
It's that one Dark Elf who can only be met with either going the Evil Route or deciding to kill everyone on Thanatos.

Was I thinking of the deceiver of the Panarii? I just remember him a really cool character you read a lot about but never meet, but his role in the narrative eludes me at the moment.

PART XVIII: OUR NEW ENEMY

6cfAq8L.png

So the demon is rampaging across the city and it falls upon our shoulders to stop him. We know a demonologist at the university of Tarant, so we can start by contacting him.
Before we do that, there's a Mr. Razzia in the inn. He's not important right now, but he will come up in the future

Alrighty! The blade is at the pit of fires, which inconveniently lies on the other side of the mountain range. We stop by the wise lady as we leave the town

clXexOn.png

Hmmm, is this because of tech?

Here's the map

jdlChyG.png

Nobody gives us the location of the southern pass through the mountain range. We're told that it does exist, but not where it exists. You either have to run back and forth across the mountains until you discover it, or just look it up if you're smart unlike me.

RcKkZrk.png

There's a mysterious location that appears on the map just as we're leaving caladon

sdyq4cM.png

and a thieves' cave

So finally we find it. It's colourful.

Yes, I am

I'm here for a more noble purpose

9JXjfJ3.png

Blade is the only sure way to kill him

Are you insane? This isn't some fantasy world! This is reality! :)

I'm going to retrieve it. Will you try and stop me?

plKOfEl.png

Alright then

NuzoSpY.png

3yV4DyE.png

cgDygFB.png

They're shitting in the lava pool

Rmi50pU.png

Ah, it seems the adventurers weren't as fortunate as us

RM0PY8e.png

HdJQePh.png

You ok, Virgil?

BbMOekK.png

Now, I never went here, so I didn't know where the blade was. It's actually in the lava pit itself and you have to go 'into' it and pick it up. I thought it was in this room

7JJzpbR.png

And this room is fucking impossible. I don't have any bullets or molotovs, so I expect my party to take care of it, but they fail and fail and fail and fail and fail again and again.
Either Waromon or Virgil or Chaucer are killed in the fight every single time.

Blh4jNi.png

So I reload to see if I can convince the adventurers of the blade's importance to my cause. I didn't save between the pass and the pit, so I have to do the former all over again. Oh, joy. At least we get to see an ancient bear this time

Grvbcbh.png

Back at the adventurer camp, we tell them of the demon but exaggerate the threat this time

It feeds on the hearts of its victims!

PMyJFdz.png

:nocountryforshitposters:

This potato peeler is the blade? Alright then. Back we go. Bolo's altar shows up on the way back.

8mu9nEq.png

We take a little detour into the mysterious location

SuKYu5c.png

There's a body and some rusty blades

U8Rn8gz.png

I don't remember if that's all that there is here. I guess if you're playing as a mage with the appropriate magic school, you can converse with the dead corpse here. We can't do that, though. (I later checked the walkthrough and this is part for the prowling mastery quest, which we're not doing. This quest looks fucking great though. You have a sequence of papers all of which give you a clue about where to find the next one, before telling you who the master is and where to find him. I should really pick a couple of skills just to experience the mastery quests. )

Back at Caladon

HyTK4oA.png

fGhaJTX.png

Alright

We can't attack the demon with anything but the blade, and I'm terrible melee fighter. So let's leave everyone behind and take Torian with us, equipped with the blade

og4FRGd.png

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Caladon has a zoo as well

2HynhMI.png

9cOMhsF.png

7FZ2X58.png

We can spot Vincent from the corner of the screen, but we'll need to go around to get to him

lI0FZQQ.png

And of course Troika couldn't pass up the opportunity to copy and paste 30 enemies between us

FIkPGGx.png

Who are these guys anyway? Krags

P2YgF5N.png

zBBFbGP.png

ImBEbny.png

Ok, so NOW everyone waits whilst Torian and I solve the demon problem

Gl5rWAA.png

qhUaUBZ.png

I'm here to kill you

6w7SRh8.png

XJOy5Oh.png

Torian deals the killing blow, then berates me for my morals

tvSlKts.png

fwpk6WT.png

Since we're not far from the graveyard, we can visit it now

7tkCzy3.png

As soon as you enter, Virgil apologizes and walks away

9auZSJ9.png

Misk's grave is easy to spot, being the only one that is 'fresh'

auXhr5m.png

Let's speak to the dwarf gravedigger

dbb9RIG.png

RDvWQHH.png

31qJ4yQ.png

QaFbASx.png

tell me about this place

tt88XOf.png

Ok. Can we dig up Misk's grave?

rD3qfjK.png

It's important. Trust me.

1R5fBa0.png

X9gno3P.png

I'll do that.

The shovel didn't fit in our inventory, but I can't find it on the ground anywhere either. Thankfully, I have Sogg carry a spare shovel since at least Dernholm. Where is Virgil anyway?

sj4PNbZ.png

Note that the game begins in 1885.

lj4KQx2.png

He will take quite a while here, so let's wait till nighttime and dig up Misk

9hDDtHa.png

FtKyIRc.png

A book!

GeAmlE4.png

hyRAdH8.png

Well, it's not the book we need, but we do get another clue. Roseborough. Our journal is updated thus:

bcPKAaG.png

Ok. Let's wrap up a few more quests here. First up: Misk's widow and her magic book. The thieves want it.

YxEMXvb.png

gT2RIHH.png

Mzd4hJW.png

I've got the book.

qX7QyAf.png

Does he have any other jobs for us?

rfvbpnC.png

what's the pay?

zQqILLa.png

750

W8YuRXx.png

We already robbed that place before we even found this guy.

eKKvmbY.png

Can I ask you something? Why was the book which I retrieved empty?

AYPRhYM.png

Alrighty.

Next up is the Panarii temple

H9tGD5J.png

t3WOGa6.png

All of the doors are magically sealed and cannot be opened

7SM1FYJ.png

s6seb5I.png

Who are you?

80IN7LH.png

Where is the First Acolyte?

9x0BSaY.png

Tell me of the temple

TMx6Uc8.png

Ok. We go to the outskirts of the town to discover a rabbit farm.

NlZpk94.png

Cynthia lives with her father at this farm

cVKOdjg.png

zH3uRvx.png

DEBxdiB.png

AcYMK4u.png

Do you get many protesters?

hUXpYma.png

My thoughts exactly..

hAxURAi.png

Anything happen here lately?

sBlIa84.png

How long has this been happening?

dtuHSuN.png

Do you own a dog?

43phbDA.png

Anyone else lives here?

4f82s8S.png

I'll talk to her

9qim0LZ.png

tell me of the dead rabbits

RUjYA6q.png

YuDtWhU.png

have you seen anything? Perhaps as you return from your tryst?

dBKi8OC.png

l0SevoF.png

T'is very puzzling

tX7S8hn.png

I'll look for more clues. Thank you.

There's little to look for here, so let's just hide out a few yards away from the house and await the night to try and descry the beast

What do you know? Cynthia is the beast.

9SrvgaM.png

She attacks the nearest rabbit. It proves to be quite a match. We fast forward time to morning and .. they're still going at it.

eC5GrDc.png

L3JCbFk.png

TJiy1Mz.png

She's become a werewolf. And she's right outside the window.

HKerJ34.png

Kill her

mgoIuZL.png

No I have not

hUsWx9N.png

Ok, I'll look into it.

That's what I mean when Arcanum doesn't really have a 'bad' resolution to many quests. You want to kill Cynthia? You aggro her father and wind up killing both of them, which is no different from simply rolling into a random town and shooting civilians, which we've been doing aplenty.

4j777ar.png

Yes...

j1jLQkZ.png

Ok, enough of that. Last up is the huge warehouse just north of King's road.

Yk9Eag6.png

The place is wrecked

cnzqOhO.png

h6uxW8R.png

What the hell happened here?

kRzTQlX.png

I saw your machines fly!

F1tYy3V.png

DyPDmgD.png

Why don't you build another?

9B9MgLf.png

Here's a camera with the pictures

ylixmyp.png

Thank you!

ZwychwJ.png

kmUqqD4.png

Awesome. Our very own mechanized arachnid.

8U9fnbg.png

You can equip it in the quick-use slots and then toss it like a grenade. It will land and uncurl on the ground.

DqRRSPe.png

It also heals us very quickly with no fuss.

So, next up is the Half Ogre Island for the Matt de Cesare quest. Let's get it over with.

sh9Tuou.png

7cBSAjZ.png

Rqt4eHI.png

There's an abandoned building here.

iuErN8Q.png

And, unfortunately, it's all true. All of it.

vajVAnd.png

There's a safe in the back with a schematic and a book. the schematic:

m1eNVXD.png

and the book:

Pens outside

jks2e3a.png

sssh7cs.png

Oh I fucking am ready to return to Caladon. Get on with it.

We run straight for Tyron, throw the door open and..

vOvmpmd.png

IOPjdRq.png

Who the fuck are you? Where's Tyron?

G5nIGZT.png

And what info would that be?

V6Ue2JJ.png

What have you discovered, pray tell?

Xkj8EKA.png

Perhaps

4XsSeBp.png

I'm listening

NoLxE80.png

Is this all true?

NnVWDH3.png

What? It's either true or it isn't

lQBoBia.png

I'll bring proof to the press

l2chaH0.png

Why are you doing this?

fq6ighz.png

You told me that you were working with Tyrone, yet now you admit complicity in these monstrous crimes? You fool! Do you really think I, Lord Byron, of all people, need the press to bring justice to your execrable, cowardly council? Look around you. I have amassed a veritable army that will bring your beloved council to its knees. I will burn your capital to the ground. I will be ..
The Bane of Tarant!

As for pleasure, it will start right now as I get Sogg to flay you alive with his bare hands and hang you from the nearest lamppost with your own hide!

urMipMN.png

*In Tony Jay's voice* You will die. But first, you will suffer.

WGIsKHh.png

On a more serious note, that's it for this quest. You can't 'solve' it, you can't bring those responsible to justice, you can't reinstate the monarchy. Nada.
We'll have to be creative and make sure Tarant gets the worst possible ending through from other, indirect, decisions.

Virgil are you ready to go? I want to leave as soon as possible for Roseborough, before paying another visit to Tarant

SLuk8sZ.png

Alright, I won't push it. Let's go people.

j5sz4xs.png

Oh, before I forget, it's funny that the dwarf grave digger has a Molochean hand necklace for some reason. Bug?

N8eZByZ.png

And here's Roseborough

yORYdL9.png

That's it for today. In the next episode we'll wrap up roseborough before heading back to tarant for the new content that has been unlocked there right now.

Cool, pleased to see the conspiracy plot did have more nuance to it.

Also, I really would like to see a nature documentary on the ecology of Troika dungeons. I imagine them to be 24/7 cannibalmurderrape orgies, as I can only assume the only way the dungeon can sustain itself with such ridiculous population density is through its inhabitants constantly engaging in violent, gluttonous congress.

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Regarding the conspiracy plot not having a solution, was it because the devs didn't have the time to finish the quest or because they wanted to have a kind of quest with "sometime the bad guys win and you can't do anything"?

The latter I think, it gives the quest an X-Files feel.
