Are there any playable mecha or mech games?

Mechwarrior Online is pretty lulzy for what it is, although it's a closed beta atm.
Removing motion blur in user.cfg helped a bunch, as did finding the zoom and heat vision functions (goddamn ice city was a nightmare until I found heat vision).

Mechs have a shitton of armor at the moment, since a lot of users were complaining about dying to the first salvo of fire after peeking over a ridge in 8v8 games. Customization needs a little more work at the moment. Weapon placement in locations is restricted by hardpoints and there is no way to shuffle hardpoints without picking up a different variant of the same mech. For instance, you need to buy 2 different catapult variants to switch metween mounting PPCs and LRMs in the arm slots. Other than that, customization is pretty neat. I especially like how they have 2 different targetting reticules for arm-mounted weapons and torso/shoulder mounted weapons, with the arm reticule moving faster than the torso one. It makes weapon grouping more meaningful.

It does feel very much like world of tanks in that the controls are fairly basic (wasd+mouse+1-6 to fire weapon groups) but working with the team and finding good positioning still makes a world of difference. It's also nice that even the smallest mech can do some kind of damage to every other mech. No more "That once bounced!" over and over like in WoT. Run your jenner around an atlas to fire at the unarmored rear legs and the assault mech's going to be in serious trouble. Especially if you have some teammates poised to fire a salvo at its back it it turns around to try and swat you.

Did I mention the Zone of the Enders games have fantastic soundtracks as well?

I think the armor was upped during internal testing before any betas. It was already that way when I joined, and I got in with the second wave of testers. It kind of screws up builds based on range, alpha or penetrating damage, as they are all rendered much weaker to raw DPS.
