Maybe this shows your memory is not to be trusted.
If you're making a point, at least make an effort of using the real dates, so you get more credibility.

    :shredder:
Oof, now you totally got me. :argh::lol:

You need to relax and calm down. Getting so stressed about a videogame that has 5% of sending a OP encounter while traveling on the world map... Hobbies are to be fun, but it seems you are getting angry instead... Maybe you should get a different hobby.

    Have you tried crochet?

There is already a rumor about memory altering water source, can't you use it as a medium for this mechanic? Or does this NPC actually has some water stored from that place?

    Intriguing, do tell more.

Not everyone grows up in end-game environment where most animals are near instant kill.
    Some people are normies.

And here's what normies have to go through to survive:

    Part 1
    Show Spoiler

Can't kill the traitor myself, had to let the town guard do it. Accepted the job to spy on the bandits. On my way to the Abandoned Factory, I ran across three dudes discussing about skin worms and other bullshit. One of them has a hand grenade, the other carries a hunting rifle in good condition.

This is gonna be worth it.
The throw did not go as planned, none of the victims got knocked down but the rifleman was near death. But this is ok since the other two are practically unarmed. And the objective is the rifle itself.

Twinkie quickly shivved the poor guy and snatched his rifle and ammo.

    This is worth the pain.

5.45mm ammo is not that rare. I got 10 rounds off the dead man and 4 rounds in the rifle.
This is a good start on my way to survive the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

    Part 2
    Show Spoiler

Dan's Factory is a pretty straightforward affair. The guard lets Twinkie in. After passing the test, Dan asks Twinkie to find his three missing men.

I'm glad I improved speechcraft. It lets me avoid some hostile encounters on the road. Although I'm really itching to master the Hunting Rifle quickly, I have to be patient.

And some dangers just cannot be talked to. Despite years of human refinement and post-modernism, rat diplomacy is still an impossible task.

In this encounter, Twinkie broke two of his shivs in a row. A retreat is the only option at that point.
I bought a wooden club off a scavenger and had the bright idea to add nails to it to make a spiked club. But the stars were not aligned that night.

So, armed with just a pair of stimpacks, Twinkie makes his way to the farm. But luck finally smiles and a trucker caravan met him along the way.

They're on their way to Krasno! A good place to meet with the ATOM contact and perhaps to resupply.
What's more, they have the 5.45mm ammunition for sale!

That's a lot of money spent, but that's good value. Things are looking up.

    Part 3
    Show Spoiler

Hi this is Twinkie, we're not in Krasno anymore. The guard wants 1000 rubles for entry. After spending so much money on grenade and ammunition, I have no money to spare. I did get Fidel to join.

He recommends we investigate Bunker 317. A good idea. But first, let's find Dan's missing men.
We arrive at the farm at night. The family seems to be on the edge. The head of the family is exceptionally strong. Sure, Fidel has a hunting rifle, but I doubt we can down him before his son butchers us with his rifle.

Luckily, Twinkie's Speechcraft is sufficient to negotiate a non-violent solution with the man.

I will say nothing more. A tragedy has occurred, let us just pass along the information to Dan. And we also meet a crazy dude on our way back to the factory.

Twinkie talked him out of shooting, but noticed the rusty AK. That might be valuable. But the man isn't willing to trade. He rummages through his bag and procures two hand made grenades.

He gestured at Fidel to get ready with the Hunting rifle and lit the fuse, giving Fidel no time to debate. The reasoning is this: if the man came upon a less eloquent traveler, he might claim an innocent's life. He has to be put down.

The first throw did not knock the man down, the AK roars in respond, two rounds caught Twinkie before it jams. Realizing that one cannot unmash a potato, Fidel opened fire.

The second grenade is more profitable, sending the tinfoil-hat-wearing sod onto the ground. He cursed loudly at the Illuminati in the clouds as he lands with a loud thump.

"I-it's a conspiracy," he groaned, struggling to get up.
Twinkie isn't gonna wait. He walked up to the fallen man and smashes the man's head with a Serbian Sidewinder.

"Conspire THIS!" the man's body rocked in pain, but he's still alive.

Fidel's final shot made the night a less violent one.

At first glance, the rusty assault rifle may not seem much, but the precious 27 rounds are definitely worth the trouble. Twinkie places it in his pack and starts roasting some canned food. He's made a profit. Things are looking good.

Damn, I thought the Codex didn't have normies.
I thought it was a place for weathered, grizzly, hardcore RPG players. Where normies only scrub the toilets or something.

By the way, nice post. Hope you don't break more clubs and that your rifle will not fail you.

By my reading its 50% to base damage. Meaning if you do 2-6, your base is 2, 50% of that is 1. You now do 3-6.

    Could be wrong tho.

Things are getting too easy now. :(

The Normie Adventures of Twinkie Gorilla
    Part 4
    Show Spoiler

Dan wasn't a happy man, but he considers it a job well done and sends Twinkie to a place called the 'Roaring Forest'.

Hearing the name alone gives bad vibes, perhaps it's best to postpone the exploration and instead proceed to Bunker 317 with Fidel.
Upon reaching Bunker 317, we failed to unlock the main door and had to ask a group of campers for help. They were kind enough to let us in.

What we found inside were corpses and more mystery. One that points towards a cult in Krasno. With no way to unlock the containers, a lot of the bunker was left unlooted. Twinkie will certainly make a return once he acquired a prybar or some other helpful tools to assist with entry.

Upon heading out of the bunker the helpful Samaritans pointed their guns towards us. But Twinkie's speechcraft is high enough to defuse the situation.

That could've gone badly, but there's enough stash of combat drugs from the bunker that could help us in fighting them off if we wish to. Let's just make a mental promise to return someday with a lockpick and murder these three thieves. Following the lead, we now set forth towards Krasno. The money from Dan and assorted loot helped Twinkie in paying off the guard at half the price. And finally, Twinkie gets his first set of Leather Armor.

A slew of contract work helped alleviate the stress on finances: a porn flick seeking actors (don't ask), an interview with war veterans, an aspiring smut writer, reuniting a mother with her long lost son, telling an aspiring cult leader to leave the city as well as a time traveler telling me to prevent two lovers from getting together. Oh, and barbequed chicken tastes like babies.

All this is fine and dandy, but what interests me most is an ATOM operative claiming he has access to an abandoned settlement called the Red Fighter. He claims if we can clear the mutant spiders occupying it, I get to have a share of the land for my own. Sounds like a good deal to me. Between Twinkie and Fidel, they have a hunting rifle and a rusty rifle. Plenty of 5.45mm rounds to go around. We set forth and cleaned the insects away with no problem.

With the last insect killed, an old man came out of hiding from one of the houses. He was trapped inside with his 3 children, basically rabbits. He doesn't have anything useful to say, sounding like a confused old man who should be moderating a RPG forum. But I noticed he is armed with an SKS rifle. And that makes him valuable enough to kill. But before I could end the conversation, he asks if he can come along. So I said OK.

The SKS is a fine rifle. I handed over the 27 rounds off the dead tin-foil-mad-hatter to Hexagon. I look forward to firing the SKS myself.
The trio was on their way to a cave of wolves when suddenly they were beset by a crowd of shirtless people.

Ah, I forgot about the Jewish bookstore owner. Twinkie and his two companions stood side by side, guns at the ready.

There were seven of them. Six, after Hexagon killed one. 3 levels ago, Twinkie would've called this a broken encounter, but now, it's target practice. He gestured at Fidel, instructing him to fire at the nearby target.

It was a slaughter. The book burners were down to their last two when one of them landed a hard blow on Fidel's knee, dropping him hard onto the asphalt. A career path as a city guard is awaiting him in Krasno.

It's fortunate that there are three of us, Hexagon did not hesitate and finished them off.

And just like that, Twinkie tripled his kill count.

RK47, I think there is a special quest involving Fidel's ex in Krasno.

Who is this porn actor that I keep hearing about it?

Did anyone find a quest involving the voyeur in the sewer?

Klinov is easily one of my favourite characters in this game. He is fucking hilarious.

    Yah, it's a normie difficulty.
The hardest part is getting actual useful thresholds in skill due to slower skill progression due to no trait and only 7 INT.
I can pump speechcraft, but there's no backup fighting skills. Can't fight at the start due to average qualities and subpar combat skill. Can't start speechcraft reliably due to low starting skill etc.
It took me till level 5 before I can start firing a rifle decently, even that it's at 52% accuracy vs arachnids.

Overall, a very slow to start build, but things will normalize now once I get Rifle to 100.

It's funny considering the reasoning behind this 'normie' build: 'I don't want to take any weakness to make myself stronger in other things' but it ended up making your character being so ineffective at mostly everything. Even Glutton would've improved survival at the start with additional HP.

Then make it 3 AP. It's ridiculous. Especially with -1 AP perk. And you know what would be best? The ability to mod the weapon stats.

So... No Quest XP changes? It's really underwhelming in the long run that solving quests, sometimes spanning multiple locations gives around the same measly amounts of 10-120 XP as speaking random trivia with NPCs. While for instance getting shitfaced with cloradine gives 555 and requires 5 lines of dialogue without skillchecks.

Let's face it - that build is a steaming pile of shit, but I salute you for proving that even being so utterly poor speced is still a viable option, if approached correctly.

I like the word 'abuse' there. So the user calls it an 'abuse' and doesn't see it as a problem at all, it's the perk's problem.

I think it's a combined problem. The perk itself would be OK-ish, given some pistols have 5 AP shots, it's just less work to fix the damn revolver than to tweak all the guns AND change that perk to something else.

Yeah, hey we have a super op build, but problem obviously isn't in this singe weapon, while every other end game pistol fails in comparison to it. It must be perks. :deathclaw:

When daggers take more than 2 AP I consider 2AP pistol a problem.

Hell, you have a pistol tha does 11-19 and costs 6 ap, while this one does what, 6-17 and costs 2. Balanced.

Hey, but lifting an axe and smacking someone in the head takes more energy than pulling a trigger.

That pistol isn't even balanced in its natural state. It's like an idiot proof gun. You can be a rifleman and it's still a good sidearm when you have left over AP or the enemy is close enough.

No no no, you got it all wrong. You cannot use that pistol in rifle builds! You also can't use good armor in those either. They are only to be used in op pistol and melee builds.

You're absolutely right. We always abuse no armor in rifle builds to keep the game fair.

I propose we give all melee weapons a throw command 3AP because they're not allowed to use this pistol.

What difficulty is he playing on? He can afford to take all those shield and armor related abilities, I assume easy or normal? And why wouldn't any other build take those same abilities and be just as invincible?

As for pistols, sounds like you have a problem with one overpowered weapon. Meanwhile it takes longer to aim a Desert Eagle than it does a Dragunov, or same with -1 AP. Heh.

If you want a good combat character, DEX must be a 10. Personality is good only for a diplomat character. Also, you are spreading your SPs too thin. Focus on one skill and develop another one while you level up.
