Let's face it, a large part of the appeal of these games is the addicting nature of finding new, better shit to use. The AH completely removes this aspect of the game, which completely guts a large part of the addictiveness.

Why do people play Diablo 2 for years on end? Because grinding the same boss for 8 hours straight feels worth it when they finally get that drop they wanted. No such thing in D3 if you just use the AH all the time. Then again, itemization is pretty fucked up too, which is another issue altogether.

  5. That looks neat. But yeah he's got to have crazy gear to be pulling that off.

Multi-headed Cow -- just take a 1-week break. update your LP or something. Then gorge yourself on glorious steam summer sale. By the time your shinies lose their luster, Torchlight II will be out. It's the best way to kick this unhealthy habit of yours. We worry about you, BRO.

I'll just play 'em both. Looking forward to Grim Dawn too.

  8. Maybe you're right. Maybe enough is enough. Maybe I have a problem, and the first step is quitting Diablo 3 and buying a bunch more Steam games. :bro:

How so, specifically? I don't know that much about Grim Dawn, and I'm hanging out for PoE as well.

I was able to farm all my own shit in D2, in hardcore, right up to high end items (but not elite shit, enough so I could romp stomp hell solo).

No trading, not hundreds and hundreds of hours, no exploits, just solo'ing the game.

I have put twice as much time into this game as I would have in a D2 play after a ladder reset, and have fuck all to show from it, nothing I have is not from the AH except maybe an amulet, drops from mobs is endless reams of shit shit shit and more shit.

Farming past act 1 inferno is pointless (everything drops in act 1 inferno, at a lower rate, but you kill so fast it doesnt matter). There is no uber gear that allows you to romp stomp inferno, just stuff that lets you kill somewhat faster (but still slowish) so no point farming later acts.

I still enjoy the game (obviously putting in that much time). But I can't see the point of grinding inferno, as there is no uber gear to be had, or if it exists the drop rates are so low, they may as well be 0.

with no ladder system (and so no ladder reset), and no end game items that are worth aiming for, I can't see me replaying it again.

ladder resets in D2 were great. But they wouldn't work in this game, if I had to start again, with the drop rates and system in place, I wouldn't think "great a fresh game" I would think "fuck that shit".

Aaaah, the good old time when every crappy movie had a crappy soundtrack composed on a crappy keyboard. It's ironic that some of that stuff is actually catchy. It actually goes well with D3 …

  13. You guys are missing the point. The point of making D3 was to make $$$ (success!), not to make a fun hack 'n slash RPG for us hack 'n slash RPG lovers.

That fact that millions were made with D3 shows that plenty of people like eating shit and will ask for more - all that's needed is a basic grind gameplay and a big name (Blizzard! Diablo!).

News-flash: All developers, except the ones that makes open source or otherwise (completely) free games without ads, make them for the $$$. Also the developers of torchlight 2. They are going to make big $$$ off people that were butthurt because diablo 3 wasn't exactly like diablo 2.

I can't really think of a game that codexers care more about since release, as the 153 pages of this thread is a testament to, so that statement has to be one of the biggest EPIC FAILS in the history of the universe.

Actually, nobody gives a shit about the game itself (except the few ones that actually play it), but more of the endless drama and bullshit surrounding it. When the game itself is dry, dull and boring to the max EXTREME Blizzard's and it's fans actions are the main focus here.

If nobody gave a shit about the game, nobody would care about the news surrounding the game either: There wouldn't be hivedrones scouring every nook and cranny of every forum on the internetz every hour of the day for shit. Face it: There are no other games that codexers are so obsessed about, except maybe mass effect 3.

For drama and lulz, my good cheese, for drama and lulz. Well some seem to actually talk about mechanics and such, but eh.

    Indeed.

Few recent games have provided so much fun and lulz. And that not only without paying a cent for them, but even without playing them.

Come to think of it, this might be the next evolutionary step of video-game piracy...

Kickstarted Grim Dawn, and will play POE as well, since it will be F2P. Been fucking with the "lite" version of D3, saved me some money.

Define romp stomp, because I can clear inferno with ease and I've seen chars with 4x my raw dps and probably 20x more unloadable burst while having at least comparable defense. When most champ packs are killed in 10-15s while staggered 90% of the time from the dmg, I'd call it stomp.
There might be no reason to farm cause you can clear with lesser gear or you can farm act 1, but certainly there's good enough gear there to stomp the content.

  23. Some game developers like what they're doing and try to put soul/inspiration into the product (e.g. the Codex classics). They want $$$ obviously as well, but $$$ is probably isn't why they because game developers (i.e. they love what they're doing).

Some just want $$$ (Farmville, D3), selling video games or electronic appliances makes no diff a dolla is a dolla
