As RPG Watch reports, Avencast, the Action RPG designed for those with deep fear of numbers and predilection for beat'em ups, has finally been released.

Blue's News has a fragment of the press release:

AVENCAST: Rise of the Mage has a complete package of exciting features such as intense, action-packed combat sequences, mighty spells that are graphically stunning, and a multitude of perilous quests to conquer.

...which in one respect differs from what the developers themselves have to say:
I value diversity over peril myself, but it's maybe just because I'm lily-livered.

I stopped buying games that say they are "graphically stunning and action packed" out of principle.

I would be curious to listen to any reviews of anyone who has played it.

I came in hoping to be a beacon of hope here, but this game appeals to those with a predilection for beat'em'ups and a distaste for numbers like the first 90% of the JE minigame (with a new flash-card minigame in that) would to a hardcore schmup fan with dyscalculia. RPGs are not the only genre that stopped watering its roots.

That said, if someone made what I was desperately hoping this, for no discernable reason, would be, namely a well-written, roleplay-heavy successor to Guardian Heroes, it would be completely awesome. God damn. I might have to dig out my flash animation wrapper and play around.

Don't forget, "perilous" and "diverse" are considered synonyms in a lot of commercial development ;)

It's sad how he gave a 5 paragraph or more lecture on combat, and just give the other features just 4 sentences. Although I was intrigued by the beat em up aspects of gameplay, and this line was the icing on the cake.

I'm a little intrested in what this title might offer besides that of the usuall button mashing of other action RPGs.
