As far as I can tell, they've been bothered ever since the Enhanced Edition of D:OS came out. Larian getting the license for Baldur's Gate was just fuel to the fire. I personally really enjoyed D:OS2, and I am excited for BG3.

A more honest comparison would probably be between spells like Grease, Spiderweb and such constant spells that cover a ground area, which, just as barrels and spells in Divinity: OS, can be quite cumbersome, specially if you use them together. In both game they are optional and depending on how you play or build your character, or what enemies are you against you may not even use them that much, and both can be removed by the player in different ways (although sadly, in P:K means wasting a Dispel spell, so you end up having to wait real time for it to disappear if you don't want to waste your spells).

DOS2 is far from a perfect game, and the unfortunate thing about it is that it really falls apart towards the end, as is the case with many great RPGs. I had a lot of fun with the combat, but I am always a sucker for characters, and Fane is an excellently written character. I’m also a sucker for music and D:OS2’s is excellent. Beast’s origin story is pretty great as well, and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t like DOS2 as much as other RPGs that I’ve played, but I still really enjoyed it. It’s one of the only games that I bought and played immediately.

I haven’t gone back and played the Definitive Edition yet, and that’s because I think the character building is the weakest part of the game, so I’m not motivated to replay it. One day I might, but not yet.

That's normal. Dwarves, elves and halflings were character classes back then. They also had a limited level progression. While the human classes (Fighter/Magic User/Cleric) were able to reach lvl 36, a halfling was limited to 8.

I don't think it was the community at large. All it takes is some fan boy with thin skin. Or crispy. It was probably just crispy

Dave Arneson's proto-D&D Blackmoor campaign involved a surprisingly large number of character stats for supposedly being focused on story. :M

    Larianfags are decline incarnate.
We've had our Underrail and PF:KM. The renaissance was nice while it lasted.
Time to go back to the dark ages.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
I'll reserve judgement until after the game is released.

First two chapters of WOTR are currently playable for those of us with alpha access and they’re fantastic.

I specifically don't get on hype train because once I all the games I was hyped for ended up being garbage. I now firmly believe that I'm cursed and I jinx future games simply by being excited about them. I'm defending BG3 here but I'm not excited in the least as a precaution.

Do they follow the general format of kingmaker? Do a couple preliminary quests then a big dungeon as a finale? Were there big dungeons in the first two chapters? Honestly the best part of kingmaker for me were those big levels since recent games have been disappointing in that regard

Yes, yes and yes. Fewer small side locations than Kingmaker—not sure if that’s a design choice or if they just haven’t put them in yet—but there are a bunch of big maps and the finale of both chapters is a big dungeon.
