Quillon Here.
FYI, an introduction to Baldur's Gate, the city, posted on D&D Beyond after the announcement of Descent Into Avernus. Maybe some pointers to the premise of BG3?: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/501-welcome-to-baldurs-gate-an-introduction-to-the

Baldur's Gate wasn't particularly "dark and gritty" in the computer game (other than perhaps that underground brothel which felt like an unfinished area with barely any content). Obviously the place has changed in 5E but I don't like how they retcon the grittiness to BioWare's game.

The place sounds like Zhentil Keep or Luskan now, yeesh.
I think they're playing it up to make the new module stand out. The 5E material so far doesn't suggest the city is anything like that.

Caveat: I was bordering on pubescence, but the Candlekeep Catacombs, Durlag's Tower and the Undercity were terrifying to me at the time. Michael Hoenig's soundtrack is also quite eerie when it needs to be.

I'm talking about the city itself. Read that article, they've turned Baldur's Gate into a Luskan-like city of corruption.
Well 100 years has passed. Didn't New York have big gangs problem 100 years ago?

Butt-kicking for goodness!
Battle for Baldur’s Gate is the first expansion for the wildly-popular, easy-to-learn, family-friendly card game Dungeon Mayhem (WOCC6164). Battle for Baldur’s Gate introduces two new decks featuring characters from the classic computer RPG Baldur’s Gate.

With new art by Jake Parker (founder of the popular art challenge, Inktober) this expansion unleashes two brand new characters from Baldur’s Gate—beloved ranger Minsc with his miniature, giant space hamster, Boo, and the shape-shifting druid Jaheira, which expands the Dungeon Mayhem roster from four to six characters.

Note: The core game, Dungeon Mayhem, is required to play this expansion.

Sooo during E3 we will learn that it is coming to epic store exclusively for 2 years.
You cant have everything, its already a miracle its not an unity game made by a shovel ware company. Could have been done too by obsidian with Mr balance at the commands...Balance is antithesis to fantasy games.

Yes, in retrospect now we know that the sudden proliferation of various new Baldur's Gate tabletop games was part of WotC's marketing campaign/business strategy for this game.

It'll be like the "Rage of Demons" thing they did a few years back that tied into Sword Coast Legends. A whole line of Baldur's Gate products.

Maybe this will be relevant in some way? It was released this year...

Another piece of the puzzle:

24h after this "Heroes of Baldurs Gate" went on sale, the writer, James Ohlen, was hired by WOTC to open a studio in Austin.

RENTON, WA – April 24, 2019 – Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc., today announced James Ohlen will open a new studio based in Austin, Texas. Ohlen, a 23-year games industry veteran whose credits include Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate 2 and Neverwinter Nights, all based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe, will lead the studio’s creative development of new IP.

“I didn’t think that I would be coming back to the game industry so soon but working with Wizards is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said James Ohlen. “Our mutual love of RPGs, world-building, and interactive storytelling is a perfect match.”

“We’re extremely excited to have someone like James join the team at such a critical time in Wizards’ evolution” said Chris Cocks, President of Wizards of the Coast. “James brings experience in creative direction and studio leadership that will prove important as we look to develop compelling new experiences that engage gamers all over the world.”

Wizards of the Coast’s newest subsidiary will focus on the creation of original IP outside of the Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons’ brand.

These are 'storylines', each tied to a big 5E module. The first one was Tyranny of Dragons, then Elemental Evil, Rage of Demons, and so on. I don't think SoD was tied to RoD, since the RoD storyline was all about the Underdark.

These storylines usually last ~6 months, so the 'BG: Descent Into Avernus' one be September 2019-March/April 2020.

Ohlen wasn't hired to work on D&D though, which now seems like kind of a waste. You have the lead designer of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 working for you and you're not involving him with Baldur's Gate 3? We'll see I guess.

What puzzles me the most is the fact that all this is happening at the same time in totally related matters. It is not possible that all this is coincidence.

Wait a minute... I know that face... that chick... she had a decent porn career. Satine Phoenix.
Lol. Small world.
what kind of shit she was in to make an impression like this?

mostly lesbian as far as I can tell. the same type of woman that is attracted to porn work is the same type of woman that is attracted to professional nerd pursuits, so this isn't the least bit surprising. There will always be a market for average looking chicks looking to vaccum money from lower status males with their vagina.
