I started watching porn in another window after about 1 min. All I heard was: "You can decide to send BG to the hells or save it" and: "People have been waiting 20 years, so they can wait a bit longer". I just put more effort planning for my next wank than these guys have put into their marketing.

Guys why are you so negative
This "it's shit until proven otherwise" attitude is unhealthy
It's not being negative , its being rational , like littlefinger we play a game and assume always the worse about people motives. Why is larian hiring 300 guys to work on this when poe had 40 people ? Why an exclusive deal with google stadia ? Why is larian hiding the gameplay when that company was so open about it before ? Action rpg with competitive multiplayer , you heard it first on the codex, and i will deserve a prophet tag after this.

if it has non-retarded initiative, good itemisation and good encounter design I could see it being fun
lol

edit: ok, that felt a bit too cheap / like lightweight shitposting. the joke is: these are all the weaknessess of larian. so you're saying if this game, unlike other larian games, manages to nail all the things larian are known for not nailing, then it'll be good.

if the developer known for being shit at A, B and C is able to make A, B and C good - then the game will be good. deep shit, maaan.

Why they are selected ? who else could do it ? Bioware is a joke now, obsidian and inxile working at Microsoft shovelware department, Bethesda is a joke too, only left are ubisoft or larian to produce AAA quality games. Always said larian is the new blizzard and i still think it is ..It's not possible for it to be turn based anymore if you listen to the interview you will hear there's an very important multiplayer part. Doesnt' bode well with turn based. I am not making that up just listen to last interview. He doesnt confirm its top down either, nor that there's a aprty of npc. Could very well be a party of players online with some romanceable henchman.Let say a divine spellcaster blonde elf for exemple as healbot and fucktoy.

Where is the fabulously pessimistic button ?

In all honesty, all the fabulously optimistic people here should pray BG3 is some form of action game. Because the alternative is so much worse.

Not really, if it's not good turn-based isometric combat or a MM 3-8 / wizardry 8 blobber, i'm just going to make fun of people playing it and complaining about how a shitty game it is and about all the bugs and i'll have fun for a couple of weeks for free. :positive:

On the other hand, if Realms Beyond is anything less than a Fallout/ Dark Sun with ToEE combat, i'll be extremely disappointed.

The only thing there that Larian hasn't done (to my knowledge) is good (ie. static, handplaced) loot. Given that they're now making a sequel to a series known for good loot, I'd say the chances of that happening are higher than they've ever been. As for the initiative, I had no idea that could even be a bar to be cleared until DOS2 rolled around. DOS 1 had sane initiative, same as 99% of all CRPGs, and so will Fallen Heroes. But yeah, as I said it's a long shot, and odds are this game will be shit. I maintain, though, that it'll be a proper turn-based CRPG.

I was optimistic ! This game could also turn out to be a social thing with facebook status update to share your stories with your contacts, and bloated with micro transactions s,kins and xp potions .Also a very very woke game, the elf divine spellcaster you will romance is gender fluid switching at will.

He likes rpgs. He likes rpgs being multiplayer, as he said they should all be. And he won't commit to what the combat is like. Its going to be a departure from the norm. I think an easy guess is a move towards a more action rpg with party elements remaining. Like Dragon's Dogma. Easy come, easy go, in other peoples worlds. If it were turn based wouldn't he just say that? If its multiplayer and real time would there be a pause with multiple people playing?

This discussion is getting stale. I think it's obvious all the clues point towards an action game. Yes, it can be something like DA:O, but it's very unlikely. I just don't know why they think transforming Baldur's Gate of all things into an action game is a good idea. Or from where such an idea can even come from.

Aren't you drunk most of the time? Who's going to want your organs, even in Albania?

(Have a good and safe trip)
Well the don't have magical ball that tells them which dude is healthy individual that likes to drink a bottle of rakija every so often and which one is a rotting bag of flesh aka vegan.

Also is there anything interesting in the last 70 pages? Worth a read?

The Larian guy met with the DnD guy. They agreed to make BG3. They had lunch. They made a pointless video. They came up with a "Gather your party slogan". They repeated this without any embelishments for the past 3 videos and preview I watched/read. In this video they added details that I thought pertained to BG3, but they were talking about that Avernus module. They also talked about themselves a lot and how wonderful DnD is. It's using V4 of their engine, but nobody knows what this game will be.

That's it. And Lilura is back in case you missed that. So I suppose unless you're running a blog or reporting on E3 as a mod, there's nothing to see here.

Well, there was that other classic RPG series with part 1 and part 2 that was turned into a shooter and it seemed to end up very profitable. Baldur's Gate is one of the few remaining big IPs in classic cRPG space, still with some legitimate presence in mass consciousnesses. People didn't necessarily play it, but they heard of it. And if Larian was going to try to break into the big leagues, Divinity setting wouldn't be of much of help. As much as Larian was successful recently, I very much doubt that announcement of another Divinity game would have garnered such fanfare. So... it makes sense.

Fallout is literally the only case. And Bethesda were trying to please their existing audience, Larian only have RPG fans.

Well, technically it happened to Ultima as well, only in that case nobody liked the 3d action version, not even the journalists. :P

Would that even be a Larian decision though? Or would it be a Wizards of the Coast-imposed pre-requisite to licence them the BG3 game? That's the question. I think if it was up to Larian the chances of it being turn-based/isometric might be higher, but with WotC being completely clueless I'm not so sure.

I wouldn’t be so suspicious of this fucking game, if they had just released anything. Fuck Larian, any little information would have been nice.

Well if "storytelling" is what comes to their mouth when describing the specific qualities of BG, it's safe to say it'll be nothing like the eponymous games.

But hey, doesn't mean it can't be good. Imagine DOS2 with d&d items and a heavier tone. Unlikely, but as I said : there's literally nothing but a good surprise that can come out of this (besides the expected meh game, that is).

PS : is it me or do they talk about the specificity of their medium regarding pnp rpgs adaptations in such a way that it feels like WOTC wrote these parts for them ?
It just feels like WOTC is more involved that I'd have thought in this.

Final Fantasy gradually shifted to action, so did Dragon Age, as well as already mentioned Ultima. And this practice of using old IPs as marketing vehicles is not unique to RPGs. New Deus Ex or new Doom are only superficially similar to the originals. The genre or game mechanics all look the same on your company's balance sheet.

As for pleasing existing fans, I'm pretty sure the majority of those millions of people that bought D:OS 2 are not hardcore combatfags. They wanted a fun coop fantasy romp, and that's what they're going to get this time around too.

I think their marketing strategy leaves a lot to be desired, and instead of desire, I'm just getting a bit irritated. Look at that audience in that video - most probably didn't even know what BG was. If you enjoyed it a 15, you'f be 35+ now. I doubt many people bought SOD as an entry to the game. So you've got cranky 35+ years old guys like me, whoever plays Larian games, and whoever the new audience is that got their first RPG with P:K and POE.

And they think it's generating hype not to tell those 3 types of fans what the game is?. Not to mention the fact that the 35+ yr old crowd saw Fallout get turned into an abomination, so you'd think wouldn't want that vitriol seeping into the hype. So call me entitled, but I think this is being petty to the fans that have been playing BG every year for the past 20 years by not even having the courtesy to tell us it'll respect its roots, or it'll be Shadows of Mordor Baldurs Gate with a party.

I'm almost at the point that I was at with Beamdog - where the alarm bells start ringing, and the best thing to do is avoid the developer until the reviews start coming in.

Guesses are fine, but what's getting stale is endless whining based on nothing. Wait for the gameplay reveal, then whine your ass off for all I care.

This is the Codex. Are you new?
Besides, what’s wrong with guessing negatively? Larian hasn’t show shit, so it’s reasonable to assume bad gameplay. Just like you can “assume” it’s going to be great, ala Strange Fellow.
