<strong>[ Patch ]</strong>

<p>If you're not familiar with BOB2 it's a combination strategy game and flight sim.  Read <a href="http://jaguarusf.blogspot.com/2008/02/battle-of-britain-ii-wings-of-victory.html" target="_blank">Out of Eight's review</a> for a better idea of what the game is about. </p><p>If you already own a copy head over to the <a href="http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11602" target="_blank">A2A Simulations forums</a> for details and the patch. </p><p>Spotted @ <a href="http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/default.asp">Matrix Forums</a></p>

Let me be the first one to say that this is a great game - and with the endless stream of improvements through the BDG it keeps getting better.

When it comes to the SP experience its the best flightsim period - much much better than IL2. The only things I am still missing are night missions (for the real "Blitz" including spotlights) and improved campaign graphics. My new terrain graphics are in the patch and I hope they have helped a bit, but unfortunately nothing else was ever done in that respect (the buttons badly need an overhaul).

Looking forward to have this running asap on my new pc. Though it ran well on an AthlonXP it should do much better, especially concerning the loading times, which I found somewhat annoying.

With such a fine, mature sim available there remains no reason to wait for the other game that appears to be always 1-2 years out (SoW). Instead of participating in endless waiting in the forums get BoB2 for a bargain price, install the patch and start today.

I'd like to see BDG give Mig Alley some more love but I don't know if that one can be saved.

Before shortening the name to BDG they were the "Battle of Britain/Mig Alley Developers Group" First patch they put out for Mig Alley was 0.80 and last was 0.85F. That may have been the only two but they were working on it. They fixed various bugs, made some improvements and added support for USB joysticks and Track IR.

Thx. Loved sims back in the day, but got kinda burned out on them. European Air War was the last one I really enjoyed, especially the epic feel of it and the huge ass dogfights.

Sorry Trash you posted while I was typing. BDG is a group of people who took it upon themselves to try and improve Rowan's Mig Alley and Battle of Britain after the sourcecode was released. The BOB2 patch in the original news post is their work. They don't seem to have a homepage anymore, their last one was hacked. And sadly it looks like they've dropped Mig Alley.

Shit, the mention of mig alley kinda made me reconsider playing it one more time. I loved the different dynamic campaigns. Anyway, thanks for the explanation!

If you like dynamic campaigns there's still Red Baron II/3D. With all the community support it's aged nicely.

Razorworks helicopter sims, the AI is pretty bad in Apache Havoc so either get Commanche Hokum or both so you can add the AH content to CH. And I believe the Falcon series are dynamic also. In either case be prepared to memorize a lot of freakin keys.

Concerning the BDG I think they are a bunch of crazy people. The commitment they have shown is absolutely unusual. They have supported this game for six years now, completely reprogrammed the graphics engine, turning it into one of the best flightsims ever, and probably never earned a cent with it. If you wonna contact them just go to the A2A forums (used to be shockwave), they hang around there and answer to questions.

Looks like I reawakened the Mig bug.

Followed the instructions here http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=384765#Post384765 and got it running but of course I'm having Nvidia issues. Not nice, the 177.92 beta drivers didn't fix the problem. Why am I not surprised. Plays fine for several minutes then everything goes yellow.

Found some people still working on the Mig Alley source but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/MA_Development/

Mig Alley won't run for me. As soon as I manage to fix one issue another pops up. Bloody shame and after trying for a few days I'm kinda burned out on it. Still, I remember it as an awesome game back in the day. Thanks again for the pointers.

Silly me but why is everyone so concerned with an abandoned game not running when you can have the successor which is working fine? BoB2 has the large "dynamic" campaign and everything including a single player game, and it runs fine on modern systems. Sure you dont get Sabres and Mig15s but Spitfires and 109s, but why not try it?

Sorry for the late reply. Simply put I don't care much for WW2 and missile age flight sims, with the exception of the Enemy Engaged chopper sims. I prefer either primitive WW1 aircraft or primitive Korean vintage jets.

I tried First Eagles and to say I wasn't impressed is an understatement. It's an unfinished game on a lackluster engine.

For the time being I'm sticking with Red Baron with either Hell's Angels or the Western Front Patch depending on my mood.

Sure, why not, you think the game sucks. But whenever I said that in your forum you point the finger at me:

LCJr: *What exactly makes you say it's an unfinished game on a lackluster engine?*

Answer: *this and that reason*

LCJr: *I don't care what you say, it doesnt bother me!!*

after 10 years, after countless patches, the a2a modders are at it again. Incoming patch 2.13 with some new crazy ass modder attention to detail and countless fixes... oh boy....

The game dynamically models damage to infrastructure (factories, airfields, ports) and repair rates. These were more or less fixed for all targets. You hit a target, it would be out for a couple of game turns, and then back again. Using historical records the BDG team has calculated average repair rates for each type of target, so a port that is completely knocked out might take a week to be operational again, but if lightly damaged, only a day. This makes the game much more challenging for the Luftwaffe commander whose job is to take down the RAF frontline fields and factories as he needs to fully destroy them, and keep them destroyed!

Holy shit this might turn out be the best ww 2 sim yet.
