Intelligence and Wisdom does not give bonus spells to casters like in 3.5 in AD&D. For the love you guys claim to have of AD&D you know very little about it. Wisdom gives some bonus spells to clerics (in a non-systemified manner), while intelligence depending on your interpretation provides the Wizard with extra 1st level spells in his spellbooks. Otherwise the respective classes' progression is the sole thing that governs their amount of spells per day.

It does prove my point about AD&D being a mess of a system though that even you hardened dungeon crawler experts do not have a very detailed knowledge about it ;)

SCS2 or BG2Tweaks or some such has an optional fix for the sorcerer, giving bonus spells etc.

Not really a fix, more like a cheat.

It's funny reading Oster's twitter. The game launched with tons of game-breaking bugs, it's virtually unplayable for those with on-board video (excellent job making a game from 15 years ago require modern hardware), and they completely fucked up the iPad release. All the while there are still people praising this shit too, although these are clearly people that don't care enough to mod the base game themselves or even know that it's possible. I guess that's the target audience.

Intelligence still matters tho -- it determines your max spell level, how many spells per level you can have in your spell book, and the percentage of success to learn spells.

Word -- just throwing it out there so people don't make an int 10 wiz and go "durr hurr" when all they can't get past level 5 spells. Tho in the first game that's not such a big deal, but so much talk of importing chars to BG2... well, I shudder at the thought of playing a wizard that caps at level 5 spells.

I mean they could just check the rules book or the game manual but whatevs.

So that's what tagging is for! Sometimes I'm very stupid.

SHS as a forum is dead to me. There's a very nice core of crunch modders still there, though, and it's the only way to keep in contact with (imo) the best things still being worked on (ToBEx, aTweaks, and NI).

Wisdom and Intelligence still matters to a Sorcerer casting Wish, not that that happens in BG1.

There is NO spell level cap in BG2, and intelligence DOES NOT give you any additional slots. It only affects the number of spells you can learn per level, chance to write magic successfully and your lore.

The manual lies, play the actual game before throwing advices around and acting all smart and shit.

A low intelligence wizard does need to be more careful about what spells he scribes from scrolls, because there's no way to erase a spell in BG1 and you can gimp your character.

But actually if they're using the ToB engine you can probably erase spells.

I am an admin of the Baldur's Gate Facebook Page. It was really just an experiment with the pages-system way back when we joined FB, and we forgot all about the page. When we found it by chance one day, it had 20.000 likes. "What the heck, let's do some Baldur's Gate update-shit", we though. So we did, and we grew. So much so that people constantly mistake the site for being an official Bioware and recently Overhaul Games site even though we advertise that we're a fansite. Here's the hilarious part though:

Since the release of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, we have been actively losing 'likes' like there was no tomorrow. Almost 5.000 people have unliked the page since the release of BG:EE.

Though, to be fair, around 1.000 of these came after we posted the GameBanshee review.

Yup. The proof is that Aerie, Imoen, Jan, Nalia all have less than 18 int but can still reach level 9 in ToB.

Well, I've been playing since release and I've cleared everything aside from the Black Pits, the TotSC expansion quests and Baldur's Gate. I've played both BG and BGII many times since their original releases and have noticed a few things in comparing the old with the new. Here's a quick pro/con:

    "Pros":
-BG2 revamps in BG1. Character kits, weapons, spells, classes, heal spells on rest, characters can push stationary party members out of the way, etc. I can remember always wanting to dual wield in BG1, now you can.(see cons)
-No more 'fancy save/load screen.' I liked those screens, but I don't miss them.
-New paper doll graphics for some items (helm of infravision, etc.) and some new names for items. Not really necessary, but whatever.
-A new class (Blackguard) and new characters. They are poorly written and VO'd and Rasaad blows, but still new.
    -Higher resolution...(see cons)

    Cons:
    -Bugs.
-The graphics aren't actually much improved over the old 800x600 resolution. Really, it just makes things blurry and they reused the old low res stuff (like spell icons) which look really bad. This is probably why they changed the UI. The old UI probably didn't translate into higher resolutions very well and they only got around to changing a few of the other old graphics before release.
-The new font sucks, but I don't play RPGs because the font is nice. Why did they change it? For the iPad.
-iPad changes. Hey, they want money I get it. The changes just make it not as cool for the PC. In other words, the old UI was fine and the new changes improved nothing for the PC. I suspect the cutscene movies were changed for the iPad too. Also, they look too oldskool for a possible new audience.
-The Baldur's Gate 2 systems and kits make it very easy. I have been playing as a Half-Orc Barbarian. I have over 100hp at level 6 and crit for over 50 with a 2-hander. However, I'm playing on Normal difficulty and get 17hp per level. Monsters only do 3/4 damage too, so... I also powergame hardcore. reroll reroll reroll reroll store reroll reroll, etc.
    Well, that's it for now.

In short: It's a scam, a cashgrab, a bastardization of a great old game. Use mods, they are better.

EDIT: Oh, and regarding the cutscene changes, they completely removed the cloakwood cutscene with the wyvern flying over the head of a man whilst holding a cow in its talons. This is my favorite cutscene in the game, so that's pretty disappointing. Too lazy to remake a stupid cartoon version of that?

EDIT: Also, they removed some spoken dialogue lines. Remember that crazy priest of cyric out in the wilderness surrounded by skeletons and talking to them? He says "Oh Brother Thurm, why not grace our ears with a ripping tale of the old days..." Originally, that line is spoken by a voice actor. It is not spoken in BG:EE. Does it matter? No, but again why remove content that was perfectly fine... Oh, to make the game smaller, so iPad users don't cry...
