If anything I would say that the Archaic UI more closely resembles BG2, though it has been some time since I last played it. Either way both look pretty good, definitely looking forward to future mods.

On a side note does anyone with any experience with IE modding know whether it would be possible, in time, for someone to modify the current main screen UI to look more similiar to the Icewind Dale 2 one. As in having all of the portraits, icons etc. on a bar at the bottom of the screen as opposed to having it on the left and right side of the screen.

He was a modeler. That's it. He was also one of the leads for NWN, which really goes a long way towards explaining why BGEE is such shit.

BGEE: better with mods. Kinda defeats the fucking purpose, no?

So let me get this straight. The way to get the best results from BG:EE is to:
    1. Add a bunch of mods.
    2. Replace the replacement GUI with yet another replacement GUI.
    3. Disable the zooming feature.
So, what exactly are we being asked to pay for if we're having to throw away the main selling points?

Wouldn't surprise me if there's a bunch of mods for that already.

There's mods for everything else after all.

Well, BGEE was released as an app, but it turns out that applefags with first generation iPads aren't allowed to play the game, due to the fact that it requires iOS6.
BGEE must be the most exclusive game I can remember. Well, the Worst Bug of All Time medal still goes to Ruins of Myth Drannor.

The ghost of Steve Jobs looks upon BG:EE and smiles.

As far as Apple is concerned this is a feature.

Well you're right. But still, this is a game from the late 90's... and taking in consideration that their "enhancement" was mostly fucking up the UI plus some useless features, I wonder why you need such an specific machine to play it.
I'm adding this game into the 2012 Failures list.

I wanted to try the game to say "hey, this is shit because of this".
But the fact that I can't even play the goddamn game is even worse, tbh. You could play some Ultima IX before it killed itself, anyway...

Yes, they do. At least, Dorn leaves from what I have seen, in a fairly annoying way... he asks "do you wish me to leave?" and it's basically just a yes/no choice whether he actually leaves or not. Because he leaves your party every time before actually asking you (screwing up any scripts or party order) and he has a habit of doing this every 5 minutes or so when your reputation hits around 20, it's probably not worth keeping him unless you want to put up with hearing the same dialogue again and again.

lol, they probably implemented it that way so that people who wanted to keep him despite being good would have that option.

Do the new NPCs have conversations like in BG2, or just event-specific comments like in BG?

Yeah they do, it's one of their 'prized' features.

Yesterday i completed my ironman run of BG:EE. I give a short feedback:

    -Buggy as hell
->bugs that were already fixed by modders like Reevor's quest.
->Dorn disappearing after area transition and rep 16. He had a huge fucking collection of magic items.
    ->2 Neeras in FAI
->I had to fiddle a lot to even install it on my laptop
    ->Buggy spell damage from Ai
->Buggy damage calculation in Inv. screen
->Many other small bugs i'm too lazy to list
->Had to kill Sarevok 2 times because after the first time the game just crashed
-I actually don't hate the new videos. But i don't see the point in them either.
-Cut content sucks, wtf, really why?
-Faster and smoother than BG1, TUTU and BGT (no save times, no lag, etc.)
-Small AI improvements even over BG2. I loved how casters follow you through doors and you couldn't interrupt them by transitioning.
-Overall still dumb AI. Help scripts weren't implemented. Why? They are in BG2.
-Some really crucial tweaks implemented for inventory management but still lacking a scroll case
-I love the idea of the better mechanics displays. I hope they work properly some time.
-I'm not sure about the implementation of some ToBEx features, as i didn't encounter them or didn't test them.
-They changed so much in the time i played, you could say the game is still in some kind of beta.
Edit: -I played on core rules, with minimal metagaming and exploiting. The game was easier than BGT/TUTU and a lot easier than BG1. Even if they made the spawns better in the last patch i was missing several scripted enemies. They at least could have worked more on the AI for all the balance changes over BG1.

    All in all -
The game is not recommendable at the moment, but i'm still optimistic about the longer term. Even if it's unfinished and lackluster they at least work at the problems and still change stuff and they give some of my favorite modders money for that like aVENGER. I could not name somebody else who i would like to fix that thing. It definately has potential to be a better BGT and TUTU, not in the moment, but the time will come i think.

I just hope they can use BGEE to fix the lag and GUI upscale problems of the widescreen mods.
