Saying gameplay is the only point or important part of video games is like saying visuals are the only point of movies. It's nonsense, in other words. Gameplay is an element that can be used to convey something deeper, just like visuals in (good) movies.

Even if you were to say that while attempting to be objective, just looking at the state of the industry right now would tell you that the most important part of a AAA video game is graphical fidelity (on Youtube/screenshots) which usually affects gameplay negatively.

Alright, let me rephrase it.

Gameplay is the most important aspect of a game. Followed closely by it's content, meaning the: level design, activities (quests) and exploration. And then followed by its presentation - visuals and audio (because these 2 can directly affect gameplay).

Story in terms of importance it's very much bellow every single one of these aspects. Unless the said """game""" is some 'Choose or your own Adventure' or a interactive novel kind of shit, story for videogames has as much importance has the cover and font style for a book.
Simply because story has the lowest impact on how you experience the game.

Also no graphics are not the most important part of the AAA industry. If that were the case, games nowadays would actually have better graphics than Crysis. And shit like Last of Us, Hellblade, Life is Strange and these other "emotional engaging storyline" """games""" wouldn't receive not nearly as much praise as they do, and woulnd't be coming out more and more frequently has they been is the last 9 fucking years. And almost every one of then getting showered with praise, no matter how bad the other 3 aspects suck (even despite their stories being mediocre at best).
