Consoles are literally just a scam, and they always have been. They don't do anything that home computers can't do.

They provide developers with stable hardware / software ecosystems. A successful console at the end of its life is usually a good purchase, as most of the great titles can be had at a discount.

Also RAM and GPU prices make getting new PC parts now just stupid, which is the greatest pity.
