Few games made demons relatable, or had a protag being conflicted about killin em, perhaps Torment wi Grace? Killin a million demons'd be a good thing wun it, why would anyone have misgivings about doin heavens an gods work?

Picky autistic bastard aren't I?

Fall-from-Grace is one of the few demons that you can lay without slaying them.

Whilst retarded as a main game idea, 'Doom - Opposing Force' could be a pretty neat joke mod. Make it so the demons' side of the story is that Doom-guy has been hired by a coalition of rabid evangelical christian fundamentalists to carry out a genocide upon hell in retaliation for metal and video games. The corpses you strewn around the early levels were all just Jehovah's Witnesses who simply refused to go away, even after the Demons put a 'no doorknockers' sign above the pentagram hell-entrance.

How about Doom: Tactics. Doom as a X-COM-style strategy/tactics squad-combat game.
It all began when Deimos and Phobos went incommunicado. Then Deimos disappeared. Now Hell is upon Earth.
Unholy portals are being summoned all over the world, humans are being raped, murdered, eaten, enslaved, skullfucked and [insert all other manners to destroy and degrade people here]. The only ones not being instantly raped and murdered are the bad guys, who immediately kneel before their masters and join with their father in hell in return for demoniac powers and domination upon humanity. Dark powers thought fantasy are unleashed upon the world once again, anointed in blood sacrifice and desacration of every thing thought holy. Daemonic hell machines are unleashed to grind the works of man and turn into impossible mechanisms of horror and destruction.

There is already a Doom roguelike, a Doom squad-tactics game is only logical.

It needs a bitching metal soundtrack, even if people will have to kickstart the soundtrack to a band.

It should be at least as bloody hard as the original X-COM... as the easy dificulty.

Combat should be frenetic, bloody and alternatively frightening. You're fighting the hordes of hell. All the classic doom foes should be there, every game. New ones too and old ones with new tricks.

Weapons should start sane and then go crazy. Pistols, rifles, shotguns, miniguns, rocket launchers, plasma rifles, BFGs, micro-nukes, chainsaws, maybe even dangerous satanic crap or weirdo Soul Cube like stuff. Anythin futuristic one could think of.
