The new Mass Effect ride, in California's Great America park, is open for business.
Mass Effect: New Earth is a "4D" experience, similar to Star Wars' on Star Tours at Disneyland.
The ride is introduced by a live actor, before you pop on your 3D glasses, sit down and get jolted about.
BioWare and EA have both signed off on the project and helped produce its CGI visuals, which take visitors on a tour of the Mass Effect galaxy.
California Coaster Kings has posted photos from the ride's official opening, which was attended by EA and BioWare staff plus the voice of Mass Effect character Samara. Here's a couple of photos:
The ride itself features recorded appearances by Commander Shepard, Wrex and Garrus, voiced by their original actors.
As you might expect, its story takes place during the original Mass Effect trilogy - so Reapers show up, too. The Normandy, Citadel and Tuchanka also feature.
California's Great America is not a major theme park - it's a small attraction south of San Francisco in the Santa Clara area - so it's a little surprising to see the franchise represented there, at least before any other. Hopefully this version of the ride is the first of many.
And all three lead to the gift shop!So at the end of the ride do you get to choose between entering a blue, green or red tunnel?
Nice to see retro work that isn't focused on Pac-Man or Mario:

This week's episode of Family Guy included a clip from 1980s Nintendo video game Double Dribble showing a glitch to get a free 3-point goal. Fox obtained the clip from YouTube where it had been sitting since it was first uploaded in 2009. Shortly after, Fox told YouTube the game footage infringed its copyrights. YouTube took it down.
Just when you think you’ve seen every ridiculous example of a bogus DMCA-style takedown, another steps up to take the crown. This week’s abomination comes courtesy of Fox and it’s an absolute disaster.
In last Sunday’s episode of Family Guy titled “Run, Chris, Run“, Peter and Cleveland play the 1980s classic Nintendo video game Double Dribble. Peter doesn’t play fair though and exploits a glitch in the game that allows his player to shoot a three-point goal every time. The clip is available on YouTube.
Perhaps surprisingly the game glitch is absolutely genuine and was documented in a video that was uploaded to YouTube by a user called ‘sw1tched’ back in February 2009.
“This is an automatic shot my brothers and I found on the NES Double Dribble back in the 80’s when it was released. I know others know this also, but as long as you release at the right point it is automatic. The half court shot I took at the end goes in 80% of the time, but i didn’t want to keep recording….HAHA,” sw1tched wrote.
Interestingly the clip that was uploaded by sw1tched was the exact same clip that appeared in the Family Guy episode on Sunday. So, unless Fox managed to duplicate the gameplay precisely, Fox must’ve taken the clip from YouTube.
Whether Fox can do that and legally show the clip in an episode is a matter for the experts to argue but what followed next was patently absurd. Shortly after the Family Guy episode aired, Fox filed a complaint with YouTube and took down the Double Dribble video game clip on copyright grounds. (mirror Daily Motion)

A four-year-old Resident Evil PR stunt has resurfaced these past few weeks. The stunt reshaped animal meat to look like people, and these photos have since been used as 'proof' that China has been selling human meat branded as corned beef to Africa.
The rumours seemed to originate from a Facebook post from a Barbara Akosua Aboagye, who says: "Please send this to all your contacts, it's very important. Chinese people have started producing corned beef with their dead bodies and sending them to Africa. Please stay away from corned beef irrespective of brand, most especially in Africa and from Afro-Asian grocery shops."
Some photos from an old Resident Evil PR stunt is all the proof people needed, and the post has been shared over 26,000 times. Worse still, African media reported it is fact, with South African websites Msanzi Live and Daily Post even speculating that China was running out of room to bury its dead, due to overpopulation - via the Independent.
The accusation gained so much steam, in fact, that the Chinese government has been forced to respond. "Today a local tabloid newspaper is openly spreading a rumour, claiming that the Chinese use human meat to make corned beef and sell it to Africa," said a Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming.
"This is completely a malicious slandering and vilification which is absolutely unacceptable to us. We hereby express our utmost anger and the strongest condemnation over such an act."
Zambia's deputy defence minister has also weighed in: "The government of Zambia regrets the incident in view of the warm relations that exist between Zambia and China," said Christopher Mulenga. "We shall make sure that relevant government authorities will take up the investigations and give a comprehensive statement."
The Chinese government has issued a statement strongly dismissing reports it is packaging human meat as corned beef and sending it to African grocery stores.
The government was forced to respond after several African publications reported the allegations, made by Facebook user Barbara Akosua Aboagye in a post which has since been shared 26,168 times.
South African websites Msanzi Live and Daily Post even went so far as to speculate the reason behind exporting human meat is due to China’s overpopulation, suggesting the country is unable to find space to bury its dead.
