Someone didn't read the image Crooked Bee posted. "Generally copied from a history book on medieval Europe." Now please tell me where I said fantasy is history, where I said that there are a lot of RPGs based on history, and where I said that I want all RPGs to be based on history.

It's a simple trade off. Give me nameless, faceless, mute protagonists any day, even if I have to put up with cliché NPCs. Better than a collection of quirky teenagers forced on the player by the developers.

No it's not. Give me a bland regurgitated story any day if it results in the story being nothing more than a backdrop for the game. It's a sin for the story to dominate the game. Why would I want a story filled with "suspense, tragedy and mind blowing twists"? Is it trying to compensate for something?

Of course they require party set-up. But so do western RPGs. Do you see how retarded blanket statements are? Fighting fire with fire.

When you don't post anything specific, the most reasonable assumption is a > b means: at least half "a" is better than at least half "b" Which reminds me. The only recent RPG based at least on pseudohistory is VD work. Which recent western RPGs are based on a history? (Witcher is based on a pre ice age society, with development which was stopped on purpose. Neither Risen, nor Gothic can be viewed as RPGs that are based on history.)

Now this is the part where we are disagreeing. When I'd face a RPG with a bland faceless character, I'd rather read a book. I like wacky or crazy characters like: Precis, Ashton, or Magus. Look at Sengoku Rance. While it's not a RPG, its characters are great, the whole game would massivelly suffer when they would be replaced by a faceless characters. I guess, western developers didn't care about this aspect for so long, thus western RPG players become accustomed to the lack of memorable characters with spine.

(Yes I head nice things about certain character from DA, and about his cat. But they botched him in DA2, thus it basically proves my point. Western developers can't into memorable characters, and when they do they screws them in the next game.)

What about greek tragedy without a tragedy? Would you like it?

A story with suspense would keep you coming. A bland retarded story would only expose flaws of the game, for example a bland combat, bland visuals, user interface problems...

Too bad you don't know, bosses, Cid, and marks are nicer parts of FF XII.

Why recent? I only like a handful of RPGs post-1993 anyway. And what does the number of historically themed RPGs have to do with anything? There's around 100x more JRPGs than WRPGs. That doesn't make JRPGs superior. Silly argument.

Do you actually like any western RPGs? Do you enjoy rolling up a bunch of characters, forming a party and heading forth into the unknown? Doesn't seem like you do, though I could be wrong.

What the fuck is that about marks in FFXII? It's been a long while since I last played, but isn't that the game where from a certain point the marks HP literally jumps to the millions(and your max damage per hit is capped at 9999 HP, which is relatively hard to get to even being high level and doing ridiculous creative buff/equipment strategies anyways) and you have to do a bunch of stupid mind numbing shit just to get them to show up? For a fight that you don't even have to select commands? also were you supposed to use that retarded mist QTE combo system?

I've just read every last comment and it seems to me that all the negative comments are being deleted. This is why the first two pages of comments are relatively clean and circle-jerky. But then there are comments like:
