Actually, hacking was infinitely improved in DX:HR.

-it didn't involve passively waiting then speedreading because teh progress bar didn't wait.
-it made upgrades to your hacking skill/aug relevant to your in-game capabilities
-you could be shot at while hacking
-you had to position yourself in front of terminal rather than just have part of it in view and within reach, preventing stupid cheese tactics
-hacking alerted even neutral or friendly NPCs making them go hostile
-minigames generally suck, but this one bore semblance to what it tried to simulate and offered richer mechanics than progress bar
-you could look around while hacking.

The bad part was that you also hacked keypads (how?) and there were so many of them and that other than friendlies looking or haste there was no incentive to using passwords, while XPs and data stores incentivized hacking meaning you hacked a lot more than you had to.
I would also make hacking more integral to game by replacing local minigame networks with single network corresponding with level and with multiple access points, firewalls and purpose oriented nodes, rather than defined goal nodes.

    Definite changes for the worse?
-you couldn't move or zoom cameras manually
-you couldn't control turrets and robots without a perk even when using password - WTF?

When it comes to hacking minigames I think the one in E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy was the best. You had to act quickly, watch the "enemy" stats and take a proper action.

for some reason in my playthrough for the beginning of the game
routes to the red central security thing were cut off(routes only from security allowed, not towards)

then from the middle towards the end I started getting crazy webs with intimidating high level nodes for the normal route with an equally obvious alternate smooth run to central security that would let me get all the goodies in one go

lolol I don't have a reason to turn off your alarm panels because I tucked everyone in but that green hand means praxis to me baby, praxis

in the sequel the fluff will be saying the nanomachines are also neural network nodes mimicing the human brain blah blah learning stuff from you doing stuff emergent on the fly evolution according to your actions

that shit should have totally been accessible without a password if you picked those perks

Most of what you listed was also in the original. Hacking was real time (you could be shot at), upgrading it was useful (couldn't control turrets on trained), hacking alerted NPC's (friends or foes) if the bar would slide.

Definitely. It was a battle in itself and it was no cakewalk. Losing really fucked you up good.

I also didn't mind the hacking in AP. Yes, not even the mouse controls while hacking. It was still piss easy for me. I guess I'm autistic or something.

(originally) when it killed you there was no chance of resurrection(ressurrection counter was ignored, Final Death ensued), making it retarded

the interface is also shit you should have timers(instead of the bar) and be able to do it all through the keyboard

it also had retarded stalemate situations which could be exploited for a easy but annoying(took too long, buildup easily lost) victory

needed balancing as well, since you had a total of two strategies to use depending on the situation

Why didn't this get more attention? It's the most retarded thing I've read in a while.

    Except no.

Hacking was indeed done in real time and enemies did in fact detect you, position themselves and aim at you. The problem is that they never attacked, so you could have an entire firing squad trained at your noggin, but as long as you stayed logged in you were safe. Contrast DX:HR, where the enemies would shoot at you if they seen you hacking and taking damage would log you out.
In DX1 heroically diving into a room with turrets, multiple enemies and security terminal, and patching into that terminal would be a valid tactics as it would ensure no one would fire at you and you'd be able to put on your cool face and just slaughter a roomful of enemies with turrets while they would just stand there like lemons.
In DX:HR it would simply result in a security terminal painted with your organs.

Next, upgrading from trained to advanced was indeed useful, but other than turrets and a bit more time it didn't open new routes - yes you could shoot enemies with turret mounted gun D in addition to guns A, B and C in your inventory (yay), but that's it - every terminal in game was perfectly and equally hackable on trained, and there was no reason to ever go master, because it provided literally no tangible benefits. Compare DX:HR where there are 5 security levels of terminals, in addition to perks for controlling turrets, robots and auxiliary perks helping with various aspects of hacking. Those 5 levels mean that your investment in hacking can drastically alter paths available to you in game.

Finally, hacking didn't actually alert anyone in DX1, failing your hack did, but in DX:HR merely being spotted while hacking can trigger hostility.

I find TFTF to be kind of shit, also the foreign language translations of "Need For Speed" will be glorious

anyway, have this little contribution (nsfw and sanity)

(no, me finding this has nothing to do with the unquarantined furfaggotry thread down in GD, well, since the link kind of spoils it why/how the fuck did they include stasis)

:rpgcodex: To see EA having their expectations crushed, see them driven before the market, and hear the lamentations of their investors.

EA 2002: "Hey, that Fast and the Furious movie is the hottest thing right now. Let's "improve" one of our franchises by copying it."

EA 2012: "Hey, one of our franchises begins to suck. Let's revitalize it by making a movie. Cars are all hot and stuff and that Fast Five thing seems to sell well"

Universal Pictures should fucking sue EA.
