    Partially due to all those annoying filler fights. Preparing your buffs for a boss fight (Demilich, Red dragon, Irenicus...) is nice, but needing to do that constantly sucked badly.

    As long as they keep the number of prebuffs and the amount of filler fights low it will be fine.

    Tunnel vision seems to be a thing with you.
    Now that he's mastered the pre-buff game, it's boring/tedious to him. Understandable to me, some games have aspects that make replaying them a chore even if you enjoyed them the first time. Better to cling to those memories.

    Buffing isn't a chore by any stretch of the word, and you only need to do it prior to a few key battles in BG unless you have SCS installed.

    And, as always, the best answer to all RPG problems comes from oldschool crawlers.

    Wizardry 8 - Cast magic screen and all other stuff once every 6 game hours.

    Might and Magic - pretty much the same as above, except that the singular spells also get combined into 'package' spells on high levels, like Day of Sorcery that includes all possible levitates, wizard eyes, etc you'd ever need.
