She did a review and people started screaming in response that seeing trannies made them uncomfortable. She didn't bring it up, talk about it, even draw attention to it. People are trying to bully her off the site and out of her job because she's doing... nothing except dare to have a job, and you think they're the oppressed ones?

I can't stand Kotaku-level amateur social justice posturing either. The previous article you posted is utter garbage. But Jesus Christ the poor woman just wants to review some video games. If she's not using it as a position to soapbox about herself, why should she be subjected to personal attacks? Why should it even be brought up? Should she be fired, ostracised, cut off for daring to be a person who you have decided is unacceptable to be presented to the public?

 

Just a normal job? Most of these journalists want to use videogames as a vehicle to push political propaganda.

 

Was there a part of the review where she was "pushing homosexuality on people" (no, HHR's definition that she does that by existing does not count) or are you just talking out of your ass?

 

And does Carolyn Petit do that? Does she talk about her personal life at the expense of actually talking about the games? If not, why the fuck does it matter?

I'm not sitting on some social justice high horse here. Her reviews are probably fucking awful and worthless. But if she's not making her personal identity an issue, I don't know why anyone else is. It'd be like if Kaiserin did a fantastic Darklands retrospective tomorrow and got chased off the board because trannies shouldn't be allowed to do articles.

I wasn't commenting that article, I only looked for the first article I could find that explained a bit more about him. You'll notice I quoted a comment about how every article this guy does is in a similar vein.

It starts going beyond that when a large part of what he defines himself as is based on his "newly found identity" and cheap "social justice" stuff that doesn't belong on a gaming site in the first place. I'm not for anyone insulting him, but I'm not surprised that people speak out when it is rubbed in their faces.

When I used to view a videogame site, I used to do it to get new information about games. Now if I read a Far Cry 3 review, a third of it will be about how it has imperialist and chauvinistic undertones, and there's always one more article where someone is grasping at straws and cherry picking stuff to point out how evil and heteronormative the patriarchy is. Where does it end?

Videogame journalism is something I used to actually admire, now it increasingly consists of is stuff that is not related to it anymore. It is slowly becoming a parody of itself.

The fact that she has engaged with such topics does open debate on them. I didn't know that and I'm not for stifling that. They can stay in those articles, though. If people want to frantically flap their arms about the representation of gender identity in video games, they can do it in the articles that actually address it. I can't be arsed watching the video review in question, but unless it's an issue that's brought up at all in it, it's not something that should be brought into the article comments, because it's not relevant until proven to be so. I've made the same argument in defense of both Cleve and yourself and you know it.
