Ah yes, let's celebrate the death of the cRPG. No longer was it a niche genre with focus on some mix of character progression, storytelling, exploration, and player choices, now it was about putting stat systems into a first person shooter with cutscenes in the hopes of reaching a wider audience. Thanks so much, Bethesda.

Looks like someone seeking the light finally found it. His eyebrows and lips will help him during the dungeon crawling parts.

I don't remember complaining about the difficulty of the game even once. The stealth mission could be failed at the first time but the second and the next one ? It's just the same thing over and over again, with a little more obstacles and time to complete. Overall the game had a good amount of side missions, but in the next part Ubisoft went full retardo and that was too much for me. Too much of the same thing can be really boring.

They're not wrong, Oblivion was incredibly significant for bringing that style of game to massive mainstream console success. It's just that it still sucked, and mainstreaming the genre sucks.

Oblivion's real world soil erosion technology has changed the cRPG landscape forever.

    With Sephiroth avatars.

But an AoE spell doesn't behave like an epidemic.

    Except roleplay.

If it takes you hundreds of hours to find

    1x Ayelid Ruin
    1x Fort
    1x Oblivion Gate
    1x Cave
    Only because Loverslab saved RPGs.

Indeed, horse armor DLC was far more influential though in my opinion. Truly a landmark game in the genre.

Have you backed Amplitude on Kickstarter? OMG why haven't you backed Amplitude? Harmonix aren't rich you know, and Amplitude needs to be made. Holy shit have you seen Amplitude? My wife won't fuck me until you back Amplitude? I'm going to kill this small baby unless you back Amplitude.

Indeed. You cannot really overstate the significance of Oblivion in kicking off The Decline in earnest.

Every single gaming media site is whoring themselves out to fund their local San Francisco buddies' Kickstarter of Amplitude, which is working, as it's about to scrape by on the final day. It irritates me.

Here's Codex fan favorite Ben Kuchera doing it: http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/22/5741472/harmonix-amplitude-kickstarter-frequency

I definitely had way more fun in the last decade than this shitty list would suggest.

Well, in the Dead Space review they mentioned 2008 as a year of terrible sequels, so they got something right. :M

Morrowind sold like 4 million copies though. It was a mega hit. Morrowind and KotOR popularised western RPGs on consoles. Until that time, it was a market dominated by JRPGs. Oh well, Morrowind ain't on the 360 and game lists are 99% clickbait anyway.

"Top ten stealth games" obviously from a console kid. No big deal, whatever, happens all the time I guess. Top three were Batman AC, Splinter Cell Conviction (heh) and Hitman Absolution (heh heh) if you care. The funny part is the comments though. Glorious idiocy from all sides. One lovely sample:
