With a difficulty mod and no Vita chambers. Yeah yeah it ain't no SS2. But if you're fine with the likes of Dishonored or Prey then it will be right up your ass alley. Too bad they milked the setting with the latter two games. Wonder if it can be salvaged...
I didn't like Prey and I found Dishonored a so so popamole Thief clone, still, both are better games than Bioshock. Prey in particular was the closest devs got to System Shock, if Arkane didn't suck so bad at story telling and they actually didn't back down and kept loyal to their original vision of Prey, it could be the best System Shock game since System Shock.

I have to admit that Bioshock was really good at ambient storytelling but the shooting was really mediocre and the RPG mechanics even worse. Best game ever would be Bioshock with the level design of Prey and with the mechanics before the dumb down.

I would of liked it if it didn't have that retarded fucking arrow telling you where to go taking all the exploration out of the game.

Vita chambers I could do without aswell but both ss games had them aswell so w.e, you just needed to find or activate them.
Yes, disable that shit immediately. The game has pointers in the environment, usually signs and whatnot. Sometimes its more creative like when you have to find Steinman in Medical and Atlas suggests to just "follow the blood". That was cool.

Edit:
Vita Chambers. In SS2 you had to pay 10 nanites for revival. Its not a lot but enough that after a few deaths you start paying attention.
Disabling the chambers in BS is better than having them on but not ideal... Hopefully ciox's mod fixes that.

Love it when shit threads like these appear: "Bioshock ain't that bad", "Fallout 3 ain't that bad", "Oblivion ain't that bad", "Call of Duty ain't that bad", "Anal bleeding ain't that bad"

I've never seen people here arguing the other four unironically.

Bioshock was very similar to SS1.
SS1 had better level design, non combat gameplay and setting/atmosphere. Bio 1/2 had better combat, graphics and story/audiologs.
SS1 was very good, Bio1 was decent.

So after reinstalling and beating FEAR: Extraction Point (AGAIN!) I found something else to scratch my FPS itch. Bretty gud, and it's free so If you haven't played it then there is no reason to bother with retardshock.

After FEAR and Crysis 1, are there any non-mp exclusive shooters that aren't fucking garbage? Compared to nuDoom/Wolf, Bioshock doesn't look as bad. Still pretty "meh", but not "escort lampshade girl while she whines nonstop" tiers of bad.

Any hint of a "fps Renaissance" any time soon?

WHUT!? How the fuck is this at 97% with 1200 reviews?! Developers figured out a way to beat the system or something?

Anyway, both games look gr8, thanks a lot. Wishlisted everything. Will wait for either a sale or I get desperate again. Still have Blade of Agony for now...

Also, just discovered something funny: Wolf '09, mentioned earlier ITT, is GONE from the digital world. Not on Steam, GoG or anywhere else I could find while googling for like a minute. Weird...

BoA is gud.
Wolf09 has been gone for 5+ years now, some sort of publisher conflict or fuckup. Like with the first Prey, you can probably still find Steam keys for sale on shady Brazilian keystores. Game's alright, but really, why would you?

Finally started the mod. Its great so far and much faster, reminds me of how fast SS2 could get. Vita chamber cost money - fucking finally! But 40 bucks is a bit too much. 10 like in SS2 would be better for that "shit, things are getting out of hand" anxiety feeling after a few deaths.
edit:
Also it would be great if you died for good after running out of money like in SS2... see above.

It's not really possible to implement dying for good or I would have done it believe me.
For difficulty settings you can either use "console_easier.txt" for easier macros, or just change values yourself, search for "ResurrectionCreditCost" in the current console txt you're using and set it to whatever.

Hope you've gotten used to tapping that hotkey.

I figured it would be something like that. Too bad. But since now more stuff costs i guess its enough of a punishment.

Hope you've gotten used to tapping that hotkey.
Haha i forgot a couple of times. I suppose i cant bind it to something like W, which is occupied?

Oh you mean something that you press all the time anyway, so you can't forget, I don't think that solution works because the game lags whenever you run the macro, so putting on your walk key would make it unplayable.

This is one shitty aspect I never could get help on, but now that the mod is out maybe someone will come up with a better solution.

Just came here to say I had a moment of weakness and ended up buying Dusk and...

GODDAMN THE GAME IS FUCKING GOOD. He did it. This David Szymanski dude did what so many corps failed to do: delivered an actual "old school FPS". Well, technically it's not "delivered" yet, since the game is in EA, but I just finished the entire first chapter and everything is playable and there are no bugs. I'm really glad I got to finance this marvelous piece of :incline: that is Dusk.

And thanks Wunderbar for bringing it to my attention. :brodex:

So, yeah Dusk. Yet another reason not to bother with Retardshock.

I have to admit that I enjoyed Bio1, but gunplay and combat was not something that you would remember 20 years later. Bio2 had some improvements in general and I enjoyed it too. Bio3 was fucking shit game and resides in my steam library as one of few games that I regret buying.

Bioshock 1 has a cool setting but you can tell very little time was spent balancing the plasmids or coming up with interesting encounters or enemies.

It looks amazing compared to Infinite, one of the worst shooters of the decade, if not the worst.

The ambient storytelling and the underlying factors of how Rapture comes apart are good.

The rest is bad because it was so clearly designed with the limitations of consoles and their players in mind that the UI, the shooting, and the level design all were major sacrifices for sweet sweet profit.

Played Bioshock 1 years ago. I found the Vita chambers to unintentionally make the game harder. In a particular spot, I got stuck in this loop of respawning and dying. It would have been a lot better to just reload a save and continue instead.

Shit all you want on Bioshock, but the factual truth is it has much more systems at play than System Shock 2. Its a truly systems driven game, more than Deus Ex, Stalker, Thief etc.

You can pit splicers against splicers, Big Daddies against splicers, Big Daddies against Big Daddies, hack turrets, hack bots, hack cameras, hack healing machines, lay traps, etc

Enemies' behaviour is dynamic and more interesting than in aforementioned games. Its actually difficult to shoot them because they dont use cover and pop out their heads like retards, but move rather quickly and erratic.

Im no expert in shooting mechanics but the chaos that ensues during these confrontations is fucking epic even to this day, thanks to great effects, physics and audio design.
