Those are some nice ideas for an MMORPG, but knowing their record on combat engines..... We'll see how much gameplay they put in.

If a merchant says LOLz! or "u" instead of "you", or looks at the T&A of a 3D model, he's not a merchant. Simple.

But... damn. Another MMORPG. This one's gimmick is voice integration. Wow. How different from Roger Wilco will it be? Then again, i don't care. They appear to be destroying gameplay already. It's much easier and less game-interrupting to select someone to trade private messages with (like in, say, NWN?), instead of now having to talk to get my point across. If i'm roleplaying with someone as a duo of double-crossers and want to send out a secret message to him so he can launch a surprise attack on the party, we're fucked. Instead of telling it to him secretely via text, now i have to take him somewhere private and tell him the plan. In the middle of a fight, that makes sense to tell the rest of the party: "Keep at it, i'm just taking my pal here so we can discuss how to overthrow you without you hearing us". Though i'm just waiting for someone to tell me "Itz teh realism, n00b!!!!" I hope text typing and private dialogue will still be an option.

And i like how Bioware dismisses player roleplaying itself - "voice-integration software that will carry your role-playing banter". Cool. If it wasn't enough their in-house roleplaying was weak, they now dismiss player's own attempt at roleplaying.

Well, i have the job somewhat cut out for me, i believe, as i don't think i'll pay attention to this one.

Geez, is this thing for real?!

Ok, not that I had THAT much hope for the unnanounced Bio-project for Pc, but THIS?! At least that would make sense that Obsidian are working on KOTOR2, Bio has more "important" things to do, or sumfink.

Thinking stuff over, it has to be a joke. Phew.

No offense Role-Player but I'll be damned if someone says the letter "u" in place of the word "you" in conversation if it doesn't exactly make a lot of a difference...the "LOLz " would be a dead giveaway though.

If this really is the Bio "Uber, super, dooper secret game" though then they can stuff it. I would definitely try out an Obsidian-designed KOTOR game but this sounds terrible.

I've never seen an AI-controlled merchant say "u" instead of "you" (unless the NPC had like 3 or 4 intelligence). I don't think they'll start doing it now. My point was that using one instead of the other would probably allow to see who you were dealing with, a human merchant or an artifical merchant.

This has got to be a joke. If it isn't, well Bioware's not getting my attention anymore. But I am sure this is all one big elaborate joke. Please let it be a joke..... :?

Something really doesn't sound like anything Bioware would produce. My guess? Someone's having a good laugh about this.

No, no, you don't understand. Now NPC's will compulsively grab every chest in the game at light speed while you're off fighting. They'll also hardly ever respond to anything you say except for the odd and puzzling "omfg lol" every now and then and just wander off aimlessly for no explicable reason. If you set your game up to strip items and levels to ensure a balanced party, you'll also get the occasional npc dropping by for 5 seconds, shouting "wtf!!1!" then dropping out of the game. And if you don't put in balancing measures, every 10 minutes some fellow named CUM TO ME LADIEZ!! or xXxDEATH WALKS THE LANDxXx or something similar will show up in your party roster with ~500 hit points and tricked out gear but still strangely content to chop away at orcs and goblins. About half the time he'll use an infinite times per day item to put stoneskin, improved invisibility, etc. on the entire party, the rest of the time he'll seemingly be completely oblivious to anything that doesn't show up red when you hit the TAB key. And then there will be a few random NPC's with wings, horns, and/or a demonic sounding voice that get rapid-fired at every opportunity, and the other NPC's will gather around and ask how he did that. It's to give you the full NWN MP local vault no password experience only now with twice the carnage and four times the minimum requirements. Now for the low, low price of $19.99 per month.

I agree: this is a red herring. That said, I do wish BioWare would make an MMORPG or better yet stop making anything but MMORPGs because then we wouldn't have to cover their games.

It sounds like it will also have NO FUN, specially since, if it is anything like kotor/nwn, after 10 mins of playing youll need to go to sleep 8 hours before doing anything else.

A bioware made voice recognition software would probably feature :

    - constant fights with the npcs to buy what you want, while they keep selling you what you dont want making you lose money
    - constantly repeated speeches morrowind style
    - anoying followers telling you their hemorroids hurt and then that you should go back to the task at hand.

wooo!, toee's "lovely" npcs return to ruin the land (and the player's pocket)

why would they make a mmorpg anyway ? there are like 50 allready, plus some comming in a few months, for games that need you to play 24/7 to buy new clothes (jeez, you actually need to work less time in real life to buy REAL clothes than on mmorpgs lately) i doubt anyone will buy more than 1, so all mmorpgs will eventually die except for the 1~3 most hyped ones, and a mmorpg will die taking the company with them (they must be legaly tied to mantain the server, even if they are losing money doing i,t so theyll have to close down to stop)

Even if this wasn't fake, it sounds so lame it's unbelievable. Another piece of crap like NWN, except for now it's got voice recognition software. Oh woopie, I'd kill to get my hands on that  It's still shit, Bio just sprayed some air freshener on it.

I can see Bioware making a MMORPG, its pretty much the next step for their gayness.

I wouldn't bat an eye if they made an MMORPG, but this is just too silly to be true. There's too many problems with voice-integration, it couldn't serve much of a use asides from being a gimmick in this type of game with current technology.

Yeah but you don't "see" sound...so when the voice-integration stuff carries "your role-playing banter from your mouth directly to the ear's of your fellow players" then I was just pointing out you can't tell the difference between the spoken versions of the letter "u" or the word "you", since obviously for this to work the NPCs would also need full verbals. This is presuming that the program doesn't attempt to do a full transcript of your verbals, in which case the verbal "you" (or "u") would invariably be spelt as "you" anyway.

Just a bit of pedantry on my part.

Anyway I can't see it working since the usual high quality voice actors that Bio uses would sound nothing like the usual 13 year old gamer.

I guess you wouldn't have so many pimply-faced teenaged boys pretending to be cheerleaders/models IRL like most seem to do now in MMPORPGs.

Anyway, the more I think about it - the more this sounds like a load of crock.

Yeah, that's what I was just thinking, actually. Though maybe it wouldn't stop them. I think it would be rather disturbing to see some stacked elven chick whose voice keeps cracking.

rofl, maybe theyll try "faking" the voice, that would be even more hilarious, i think we can agree those "pimply-faced teenaged boys pretending to be cheerleaders/models" are not very smart

Not really pedantry. It just didn't occured to me NPCs would talk as well. I thought it was only done by players, and as such, trivial NPCs like merchants would use overhead text.
