They need to sit down and read some history books just to get the general feel of describing groups of people.

Another thing I find helps with fleshing out races is to start simple, usually their collective desire and even one word to sum them up, and there expand upon it taking it to logical conclusions and then have those lead to other logical conclusions when interacting with other races.

This race described are utter hedonists. They live off of society and only engage in it one way in order to allow themselves to pursue their hedonist life style. Seems they're not very altruistic in the least, they're then very amoral, at least when it comes to others not of their race.

Now instead of having them make potions that cure disease to avoid having jobs, you know, a profession and industry, a job to avoid having a job, have it maybe be a substance they produce from their body, but it's a secret they've kept hidden behind a guise of this potion crap but people spot the discrepancy and it causes speculation (WTF has no one seen a female dwarf), but things are kept quiet because these amoral beings react mercilessly towards anyone who gets in the way of their hedonism.

This last part if you do it not only means you have to change nothing and add a little bit, you can also have an injoke and make fine of the original, stupid, premise that led to this idea in the first place.

That describes them, their outlook and everything, now history: Have them not just being wastrels faffing about, have them be wanderers that came upon a kingdom or continent in the grips of a plague that was literally going to kill everyone off unless they found a treatment for it and these winged things substance was just that thing - being amoral, lazy hedonists, they make a demand to create their society - they have a cure, but they want to rule over everyone for it, everyone has to bow to them or they all die.

So they do and they're the ruling class. In order to keep their order permanent they create a network of servants to enforce their order doling out favour in a business-like manner so those they rule keep themselves in their own place being greedy and narrow minded while they busy themselves being hedonistic. Take a look at the Beglian Congo under Leopold for a historical example.

So you set that premise up, you then already know how it's going to go for later instalments of your game: Their order falls in revolt, and maybe the secret of their "potion" is discovered, it may even be the cause of the revolt. Suddenly they're not simply overthrown, but their empire, full of enraged people, enslave them and turn them into livestock to milk their substance and do it in the most unpleasant fashion possible out of a sense of vengeance.

From this you can now make speculative fiction framed in your world and its history: Third instalment of the series takes place 200 years after the seconds revolution and people don't even know much less care about how these winged beings once ruled over them, they're just winged cows that cure their cancer and they treat them like shit and are utterly cruel because that's the way they've always been treated.

    Question: Is this treatment right?

    Was it ever right?

These beings are selfish, loathsome, psychopaths, but look at what the other races have done in return. They may just be acting out their nature, but are the other races? They're better than this, but they still keep doing it for reason they don't even know anymore.

Was the enslavement justifiable? The revolution was, but this slavery is no better than what they, and yet at the same time how else could you deal with such a self-centred race, especially one with such a gift as a universal panacea like they have? Even if they can't co-exist with society in a decent way and absolutely refuse to compromise and be equal because they just want to faf about, what else can you do? Is it right to exterminate all of them? Even not simply for their sake but of all the lives their substance might cure? What if another extinct-level disease arises? Is it even smart of kill them all off? If not, then is their enslavement the best compromise that can be made and people just have to treat them more humanely?

As someone said before, once you start digging fantasy, even write period, starts to write itself, but you need to get off on the right foot and not just make a shallow gloss of lore and shit because it WILL look amateurish.

Because it comes off as pretentious, smug and arrogant, that the series is already a success and there's a ton of sequels lined up.

It's not a vibe that makes me want to buy your game.

Now there may be, successes with that formula. Look at the damn Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (even that has the excuse of being semi-established with their ride), but this isn't a blockbuster, let alone a AAA game - you're struggling to even make the game and make some sales in the end. You've yet to recoup your profits and make enough to justify a sequel.

Because the name sounds funny and gives us no idea what the game is about.

A good example of a name, even if it's terribly clinched, is the MMO KS-, no wait - scam, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.

Instantly you know the premise - Pantheon: gods, Rise of the Fallen: gods who were overthrown and are coming back to take over again.

Done nice and neat even if the words are terribly overused.

As a grammar nitpick, "singular" should be changed to "single-highhandedly" since it's an adverb.
Also, demigods seem to be powerful enough to create races and spell classes, but weak enough so that they can be included as enemies in-game.

Another "expert". *sigh* (Hint: criticizing doesn't make you look more clever. Hint2: it doesn't make you look more important, either. Hint3: your statement is flawed. For two reasons. One is that only one demigod was able to create an own spell class. Others weren't. So those others could be weak enough to be included as enemies. But even this isn't required. Why a demigod who created his own spell class can't be added as an enemy? Why would the ability to create an own spell class necessarily make him unbeatable by very high-level characters?)

Sorry I can't prevent other users from posting spam... If they ask about the game, I can try to find an answer to their questions. If there are any news, I (or the devs, probably) will post it, too.

Few weeks ago I noticed the devs started a new thread to announce the Gameplay Teaser video (something which even GameBanshee published as a front-page article), but it got merged with mine (i.e. with this thread).

Honestly I just don't think this indie attempt of creativity deserves to be ridiculed or ruined. Lot of useful feedback was received via this thread from RPGCodex users. Just my 2 cents.

Thing is, this is the Codex.
It's not going to change no matter how much you scream "justice!" or "behave!" at it. People here do not take pity in anyone (well, except if someone cool died too early) and will be honest no matter what. Feelings will get hurt, but who cares, people should grow some backbone.

As long as a title is as unintentionally funny as this one, you will have to wade through the rightfully chuckling folk to get to some actual feedback.

And honestly, if you do not see this massive porn assault as "feedback" right there, then I don't know what else to tell you. I am writing all of this with a constant smile on my face.
Devs should change the damn name.

You may have a point there. Maybe the name is bad. Maybe it should be changed. Actually, I didn't mind the craptalk any longer either, I got used to it.

On the other hand, I think it's too much that admins forcefully rename a topic of an indie game (to something rude) that was accepted as genuine by sites such as RPGWatch or GameBanshee. This is rape and malice. Rape is not funny. :( One thing is when you are a user who acts like an asshole, and another when you forcefully edit someone else's content.

    What can I tell you?
The mods'/admins' standards are only somewhat higher than ours :lol:

Also ... rape? What? You mean the current title? This has nothing to do with rape, trust me ;)
Only if it would be heavan.
You have to dig through the internet yourself to see where that is coming from ;)

If this was TURN-BASED we would probably give a shit about it. But as it stands, it's just yet another crappy RTwP generic Fantasy RPG #76343745344

Sure, it is. On the other hand, I was lurking in other sites (RPGWatch, Russian sites, modding sites, etc.), none of the posters commented that it reminds them to porn. Maybe there are too many users here whose animal instincts are a bit... overly present. Just my 2 cents.

    @thesheep, @Jeasun:
Think of it: if the game becomes a big hit, RPGCodex could actually shine as one of the incubators; the place which gave the most honest and straight feedback from the beginning. (BTW this was implied by someone in one of the initial posts.) Now that the mods/admins ruined the thread title (while not touching other titles like Divinity), RPGCodex will only be remembered as a site which tried to ruin a project that was otherwise already featured by GameBanshee and many others. :(

    Infinitron:
Sorry didn't know that. Actually I started to love RPGCodex because I thought it gave equal rights to everyone (I mean among non-mods). I mean, users are free to say "fuck this game", and if I like that game (or I'm a dev, founder, whoever), I can say: "fuck you".

But understood the warning; I'm now mute (in the name of freedom of speech).

P.S.: and yes I'm a gal; looking forward to be humiliated through a custom title as well.

Sure, but currently it looks like I gave that original title. This is forging, impersonating at its best. Honestly, I think some people here (including some mods) feel unimportant or frustrated in RL, so they compensate it online by trying to ridicule others' hard work. Healthy people don't need this... :(

    (As I'm a gal, (I hope) I was allowed for a last-after-last comment - the current one.)
