Necro drew with Inferno. The perfect result. This means both teams failed to climb up the table. Inferno level on points with us, but they can't climb over us.

 

The Darkest Knights

Hello and welcome back to Blood Bowl. Tonight we're having two teams with somewhat mixed fortunes. Knights of Codexia, unbeaten so far in the season have lost a highly valued player, and lies just within the top 4 spot after a heart-breaking draw. Missing tonight will be their favorite runner, stabby with a fractured arm. Let's see what their coach has planned in replacement.

Meanwhile, Vast Mountain Raiders are possibly staring at their last game of the season. If they lose here, they'd be lying at 0 points from four games, disastrous. It is extremely unlikely the top four will finish with less than 9 points a piece - hence the pressure is on them to grab 3 points from tonight.



Wonderful crowd on a sunny morning.



Looks like Knights won a coin toss... what are they gonna pick?



They want to ball and looky here! We have TWO new players on the Knights' rank! It's... Garm , the new Catcher and Corporate_Jew_Master .... AKA John Riccitiello! Holy crap, shit just got real. It looks like Knights are reverting to their pre-season favorite line-up. No Big Guys, just honest, fast passing game.



These two coaches have played plenty of pre-season and Satael has only managed to beat the Knights once out of 5-6 matches. Let's see if he take something out of this game with his favored team instead.



Raiders with the kick!



And already, nature is working against the Knights. That sun is gonna fuck up a lot of passes today.

There's plenty of gap to exploit on the flanks though, and the Knights didn't hesitate to take the route on the sides. Azira and Garm going at each route, slipping past the orcish lines...

Crowd is loving this, early score and it's still an open game. The orks definitely felt the line opening when that blitz went into a turnover.

With Whitewolf and co. trapped on the right, there's no way the Knights can mount sufficient pressure!

Looks like the elf play is starting to show here, the Knights, abandoning their bashing play immediately the moment the numbers no longer seem feasible.

LundB bashed from 3 directions, but still alive.



Somehow the Knights' line isn't playing the game, but still in the game. If that makes any sense.

Takes out his man, but goes out of his position, probably a fuck up by his coach. They're gonna pay for that.



A terrible play that everyone will call bullshit if it works out...typical.

Brother None surviving his second trip to the crowd...

None of the Knights are standing, a complete rout. This looks like a nightmare scenario of some sort...



Not even eklektyk can mount any resistance.



1-1, a painful finish for the Knights as they surrendered the lead meekly! With the orcs receiving in the second half, nobody will deny that they're putting themselves in a very shitty position. Is the coach cracking under pressure? Let's find out!

 

... Well, as I told you before RK, I can't say I'm completely distraught that I'm not playing this game. 'Dem blitzers look awwfully mean and all.

At least I did one useful thing this game

 

You know the scary part of this half?
We didn't even successfully block more than 3 times.

 

Half time. Backs to the wall. 1-1.
Our enemy is at our door.
I... I have failed.
There's no doubt about it. If I look back on the first half, we were extremely lucky to score.
And conceding that equalizer shook me up. I realized I wasn't thinking right. There was no strategy that would've called that blitz to nowhere a good decision.

With just barely minutes to make up my mind on our second half kick off. I know. I just know, we can't let them score. Nuffle was kind enough to let the 5th and 6th place draw the game. To lose this match would waste his gift. A win would be glorious, but a fully powered orc team is always a crazy proposition to take head-on. If only Ulminati is here. But no. We cannot face strength with strength. That much is clear. We need to take risks. Not stupid risks, but risks that would let us win.

Many... many times I considered pulling the plug on my modem.
But I knew, that would be the end of me. If I get away with the first, there would be no end of it.
I would do it again. It is the whispers of deceit that would certainly poison my integrity.
The temptation was so, so close.

To think it even crossed my mind. I knew, that I lost my nerve.
This is my shame.

Danger as Azira hangs on to the prize... yet the the Raiders knew their drive is undone by an insane Knights' assault.



The Raiders, enraged by the drive disruption assaults Azira, knocking him aside, the ball, coming loose!



As they desperately try to shake off their marker, the Knight's line gave their all to hold the ground.



Whitewolf, refuses to fall.



LundB, giving his best to stay alive.



A ray of hope as an attack on the line is undone! Turn over!



Hellraiser, not giving up the good fight.



Xenomorph, draws closer to the prize.



Knights rally to break down their opponent, but the blocks would not penetrate!



Azira stands.



Gondolin and Jaedar tries his best.



They brought down their opponents but could not break their armor.



Brother None snatches the prize!



Yet for a fatal misstep!



Garm, to reposition himself!



Success! Turn over. The orcs knew - if the Knights score here, it is all over.

Alas, Brother None failed in his duty!

No catch by the orc thrower as the ball is thrown back in!

Xenomorph gets double-teamed and falls! Dire situation as the Knights are losing ground on the fight for the ball.



As the turn is over, Jaedar succumbs to a stunning blow. Adding further weakness to the Knights's skirmish line.



Brother None, tries his best to free the ball zone...

A reroll had to spent. Push back! Desperation.



Azira to challenge the gods.



And fail miserably.



Brother None falls over, stunned.



As the Raiders secure the ball in their own back field, realization dawns: they cannot afford this draw.



Whitewolf, standing against all odds.

I disagree. After watching a Halfling kill a Beast of Nurgle after a failed block, I would say that Nuffle simply has a sick sense of humour. He also just likes to give occasional reminders of who exactly is in charge.

Raiders, knowing that it's game over decides to just bash the fuck out of every knights player within range.



It's amazing no one else is injured in this match...

Good god, if he makes this one I swear ...



Oh thank god, enough drama!



IT'S A ONE - ALL FINISH! MY GOD, WHAT A CRACKER! Both sides, going all out, but having just a point to show for it. It's gotta be a heartbreaker for the Raiders, who lies on 7th place with just a point out of 4 matches. They're not out yet... but their chances of making to fourth place... is very, very slim.



Knights baffled with the MVP decision going to the lone mercenary lineman, but whatever, they escaped with a precious point. This would surely baffle the whole division as Knights just rode their luck so far. I was so sure they're going to taste their first defeat of the season. That downcast expression when the Raiders made that hand-off...but my god...that Go-For-It....fatal!

I'm sure the coach is riding a mix of emotions right now. With that point, they increased the gap to 1 point between 4th and 5th place. They're still in full control of their qualification chances as they take on the 8 Eyes next week! What an undeserved draw ... and I'm sure the fans think the same as well. Unbeaten for 4 matches...yet...here they are at 4th place.

But sometimes, being good is just not enough - so many bad luck today - with a fair share of bad plays coming from the Knights' coach - but that 2nd half answer. What a ride.

I hope you enjoyed tonight's match as I did - and here comes the stats screen now...



6 out of 30 successful blocks. The hell happened out there? Knights were really out-powered in the field.
But that doesn't change the result.
