Next part of the documentary is live. You can watch it on your kickstarter page. It's about concept artists, their work at Double Fine and the creative process.

I was kind of upset originally at the amount of money they spent on the filming, but, I have to admit, I do find myself enjoying the videos.

Next documentary is up for the backers to see. I found it very entertaining and interesting. It's about audio, putting the basic gameplay together, making hard choices in the art department.

There also a video called Sidequest. It's about the russion programmer chick, who is hot as hell IMO and must be a beast in the bed. /sexist pig

Is this the main thread about DBF's game?

Next documentary is up. These videos are getting more and more exciting. The development really revs up, puzzle design, actual graphics and animation design. Looking good. I honestly don't know which team is better in terms of behavior, number of cool guys in the team etc. Double Fine or Obsidian?

Obsidian obviously; MCA, Tim Cain, Sawyer, Ziets and Brennecke are the Super Friends of CRPGs.

Those documentaries are great btw, get to see quite a bit how game design etc actually works. I'm very happy that Obsidian will make their own documentary.

I don't like how the girl looks, she reminds me of the female ant from the Antz movie... I don't like much the drawings of the boy either, too much like the hippie lumberjack... I don't know, that artist that made the initial art for the characters just isn't my cup of tea. I really hoped peter chan would do all that.

    But we'll see.

The girl was ok to me, but the boy looked pretty bland.

Maybe the Bagel filter will fix it.

You are not alone on this one. And I don't even like the fact that Tim's daughter has chosen the look of the girl.

Also mocking the publishers was simply not needed considering that "Despite the success of the Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter, the company continues to seek publishers for future titles."

And in the end, I have a feeling that this adventure game is going in the direction of Deponia instead of Grim Fandango or Full Throttle. In other words, the target demographic seems to be Tim's daughter instead of people who would enjoy something like The Longest Journey.

But as you said ... we'll see.

This is something that has also been troubling me :(

When he went ahead and presented the concept of having a boy and a girl as the main characters, as well as pointing at a clichéd story (boy helps girl and everyone lives happily ever after), I started twitching my nose at that.
I also suspect it will be less "mature" than all of his other games at Lucas.

He never promised anything about the game in that regard, but it will be somewhat ironic considering what the demographics that have funded this project are expecting from him.

I dunno; when I played Psychonauts in my mid-20s, I found it utterly delightful, even though it's about a young boy winning the heart of a young girl at a sleepaway camp. I don't think Psychonaut's story was for kids, even though it was about kids. But, that said, I often find "mature kids' stuff" really engaging -- Pixar movies, high-end young-adult fiction, Batman: The Animated series, etc.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the story, Tim Shaffer has never let me down in that department, it's always his clever humor that does the trick anyway. Also, I believe the dual world situation can provide great opportunities for more interesting gameplay and puzzle-solving mechanics.

    @ toro
I enjoy pixels like the next guy, but I also enjoy that hi-res art. And the artistic direction is great. That image looks pretty nice to me.

    @ MRY
I haven't played Psychonauts yet, but reading that somehow eased my concerns. And great point about the Pixar movies.

    @ ghostdog
I'm guessing he'll probably do something similar to DOTT.

Yeah, that's what I had in mind. Apart from simply sending items back and forth, doing something in the past that changes how things are in the future was a great idea to manipulate the world in DOTT. As for the DFA, it will be more clear when we find out how the boy and the girl are supposed to be communicating.

I just watched the latest video update for DFA's game (unfortunately the video only runs on the kickstarter site) and the main points were:
    - The game development is gearing up to speed. They did not say it directly, but they are waiting for the people still working on The Cave (which will be released probably in February).
    - They talk about a lot of banal shit, but in the end there is no release date on the horizon (perhaps Q3/Q4 2013). They did show some WIP images, but nothing spectacular. Also the "documentary" is filled with product placement for their other games: Stacking especially.
    - I was surprised to notice that during the video they complained about money (!?) and afterwards I've checked their site, it seems that they still accepts pledges here. Which means that the pledging campaign is still open in stealth mode.

Now, I don't know about you, but this last point looks like a dick move.

You can watch the videos on the forum too, doesn't have to be the kickstarter page.

The Oct 2012 date was set when the target was to make a $300,000 game. Obviously since getting $3 million + the game has become bigger requiring a longer development time.

That took another $300k from the budget.
