Since then, the in-game font has been revisited - made larger and more readable. Also the missing apostrophes in the riddle are now in

 

Those apostrophe placements are really awkward to read for me.

They seem to be used correctly for apostrophes commas.

 

We're not talking strictly about correct/incorrect here. "Whatever the reason, he thought..." suggests that we are viewing an internal monologue (i.e. not spoken), but what follows reverts to a description external to the character. If the comma after "reason" was removed, it would look less like an internal monologue and more like the narrator is informing us that the reason the character who is looking at the chest is irrelevant (which I suspect is the purpose here, or else we have this thought hanging around with no resolution).

 

Also the comma before "most probably" looks like it could be a comma splice, but maybe it could qualify as a non-defining relative clause. The mechanics there are a bit more sophisticated than I have the training to correct. Those sections just read very awkwardly to me.

 

You are right here, the comma there is either irrelevant, or the "he thought" part could be skipped altogether. There may be more such gems in the text, but my excuse is that those were written in a hurry and most likely will be revisited. I's good to have bros point such things out!
