    Help me bros!

So yesterday C2C was working. Today it's not. What happened?

I reinstalled CIV4 because I had some graphical glitches and I wanted to update my mods as well, so figured it's best to start from scratch.

Vanilla, Warlords and Beyond the Sword all work, no problems. Fall from Heaven 2 works as well. But C2C crashes to desktop with no error message while trying to load the game and Realism Invictus gives me a C++ Runtime Error, also while it's trying to load the game. With both of them, I get to the main menu, select a new game, map size, my civ and so on, it starts to load and then boom- either CTD (with C2C) or Runtime error (with RI).

I don't have a clue where to even start troubleshooting. The official threads for both mods are pretty much dead and their FAQs don't have such errors as they're mostly just talking about the MAF crashes.

Lolwut? C2C forum at least is very active: http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=449

In C2C, does this happen with any map size, or did you just go straight with the immensigargantuanormous one? Because that won't work dawg, the crappy engine cannot into such majesty.

You could try clearing the cache files and all that junk for starters.

Fresh install, cache should be clear. I tried all possible map sizes, always with the same result.

Huh, I must have found some old thread and thought that was the only thing.

Did you download the mod from that thread, too? Because that's likely ancient, the mod is still very much active. It's in a pretty sorry state atm though, doubt you'd be able to finish a game; AI offers no resistance past the first few eras (higher difficulties could be enough of a crutch though, but I've always disliked the blatant cheating the AI does at the highest ones) and turn times become dreadful as the save matures.

Also, unless your OS is a fresh install too, you might have some old cache haunting your HDD.

C2C crashes because it's shit. You want good epic mods, play Realism Invictus.

Also suffers from horrible lag beyond early game, unless you play a less interesting randomized world instead of the proper Earth scenario.

The best mods for Civilization IV are Fall from Heaven 2 and Dune Wars.

I never did fix the lag issues but hey, maybe it works better for anyone who doesn't have a 5 year old computer.

Do you have it on steam or any other platform with auto-update feature ? With gamespy going down, they deployed a patch that ruined lots of things for people using mods. In that case just torrent or find elsewhere an earlier, but compatible version and install c2c over it.

Not Steam. And as stated in my op, Realism Invictus crashes as well.

EDIT: now I'm getting XML errors when trying to load it. Fuck this, re-downloading the mod.

I was thinking just the other day I wanted to play FFH2 again...

what's the best way to go if I've got Steam BtS? Just grab the 0.41 installer and it will work? Is that even the most recent version?

    Also Conflict on Chiron.

It's way better than SMAC upon which it was based.

Do you have OSX? There are some problems with Yosemite and CIV IV since last month.
Of course, your cpu/gpu might have just burned, it's Gamebro Engine.

I don't fucking know - last night I got it to play on a Small map that used one of the original Civ4 random algorithms. Today, no map seems to work.

Yes, I did the 3.17 and the 3.19 patches. BTS was supposed to be 3.17 but it actually used a beta patch, so some people had issues unless they applied the full patch.

I think it's more to do with the mega-mods just being temperamental greedy hogs. As I said, vanilla and FFH2 work flawlessly even on huge maps with plenty of civs, so it's probably just the ridiculous requirements that C2C has that kill it. I just don't understand why it sometimes lets me play a small map and other times doesn't.

Oh well, delete and shelve this idea until I can afford a better PC, I guess.
