Guess if I played this one with patches either?
List of changes (08/07/09)
--------------------------

misplaced in Katrina's dialog.
- Curtis' "agricultural" quest cannot be resolved without any player's effort.
- Jarvis stands up after his poison has been cured.
- Aradesh no longer forgets his anger against you. (rem: it's a developers'
plan that you have to offend him twice before Aradesh goes really angry. So,
consider an imaginary forgiveness the philosophy of Aradesh. ;) ).
- Children at the western area correctly "go to bed" in the evening now. :)
- Tandi's behavior should be significantly less buggier :).
- If you have not cleaned up the radscorpions' lair, it's no longer

- Now you can't ask Diana about Tandi before the Tandi rescue quest.

one neutral option "[More]" IQ requirements were too high).

* Fixed a bug in the Skulz attack of Trish in Neil's bar;
* Neil will not try to close Skum Pitt door during scripted scene with the
Skulz;

* Now if Sherry is still in the Skulz and the Skulz are killed, she disappears

more sense given the Circle gives you normal lockpicks for the job).

normally talk to that person again.
- You can no longer use Traps or Lockpick repeatedly on either of the secret
doors for 50 xp each time.

the church ghouls thriving; or you could enter one map and encounter
invaders, then go and kill the Master and return to find the rest of the
ghouls alive.

ghoul in Watershed.

Brotherhood of Steel:
- The Doctor (Lori):

combat.
- Field control computers now correctly switch force fields on/off.

if you have failed the Traps roll.
- Party members will be placed in a cell during the Lieutenant's interrogation.

- Bug fixed: The robot control computer referenced a "stupid" dialog line when using
it a second time if your intelligence was 4+, although the reply was as if you had
asked its function.

mixed up.

The Glow:
- If you get a critical failure while picking elevator doors in the Glow, you'll
no longer get the message that you broke your lockpicks if you didn't use any.
- Can't examine a deactivated Glow robot repeatedly for unlimited experience.
Experience gain is also reported.

Random encounters:
- You can no longer have a conversation with a dog from one of the encounters.
- It's possible now to join traveling traders (in the desert near Hub,
Brotherhood or Junktown) and reach one of the towns with them.
- Fixed bug which made the NPCs "freeze" in special random encounters.

- Killing a child in the random encounter will affect your karma and Childkiller
status now.

Localization bugs:
- Those fixes are for the Russian language only and neither mentioned nor
applied here.

Removed incorrect fixes:

Hub:
- After Decker's death his active quests will be crossed out in PIPboy.
- Mrs. Stapleton no longer has infinite quantity of books.

Necropolis:
- Now you can talk about the quest with Set at any time.

Random encounters:
- Lance the scout for Shady Sands can be encountered as an alive character.
Not as a dead body only.

Useless fixes (for possible future mods):
- Experience gain is reported for beating Zax at chess. Also cannot repeatedly
access the mainframe for unlimited experience.

Engine bugs, can't be fixed by now:
- Cheating with the 'A' key.
- Died of radiation sickness for no apparent reason while resting in the
Brotherhood.
- Playing chess with Zax (checks don't generate criticals).
- Caravans: Going back and forth will take 2-3 days from the time limit, but
may take up to 20 days as measured;
- Necropolis: Going to the Military Base takes 2 weeks according to the time limit
and 4 weeks according to the calendar.
- MacRae is supposed to give you +1 Melee Damage and +5% Damage Resistance,
but he doesn't (engine disallows modifying derived stats from scripts).
- Saving the game near an irritable person and loading can cause them to
attack "unprovoked".
- "Bag bug": items disappearing, incorrect quest items checking and removing.

Hardware-related bugs:
- "Endgame bug": accelerated slideshow, no sound or accelerated sound.
To fix this bug you have to disable a Hardware Acceleration (use dxdiag).

Most map bugs can't be fixed now (we don't have a normal map editor).

Not bugs:
- Disarm Traps for the Facility: This pops up once you deactivate the robots
from Zax. There's no way of getting it crossed out. -- It is not bug. Robots
deactivation turns on laser and gas traps on level 1. If you reactivate
robots, traps will be deactivated and quest will disappear. It may be
considered as missed quest.
- IN<4: Although Talus will know if you rescued the prisoner, you can't get
the reward or the xp unless you get smart. -- Definitely not a bug. Talus
doesn't tolerate "chem users", his script and dialogue clearly state it.
So, this cannot be changed in a patch.
- Doctors do not heal fractures and other traumas.

What a broken POS, fans are still patching it today!

Hi Chris,

TeenVogue wrote an article recently about how Cancel Culture is toxic so I'm currently uncancelling you atm over the Myron stuff

Since we only get one question and I don't think you know about Brockhampton (unfortunately!), here is mine: Which do you think is better Kanye's MBDTF or Yeezus and why?

(P.S. secret bonus question: Can you relate extra hard to Kanye's song Real Friends? i know its from a different album but i feel its thematically important)

Thx :heart emoji:

Yeah I also heard that every night after people from Obsidian left the office, Todd Howard was sneaking in and making all the bugs in a first place.

Hey Guys,

It's me Anthony Davis. I don't have my old account anymore after the dark time when RPG Codex went down or got moved.

I don't really have anything to add to this discussion. Instead I thought I would talk to about my favorite scene from Empire Strikes Back. You remember when Han and Leia go to visit Lando on Cloud City - and then Lando surprises them by having Darth Vader there. I love that line where Darth Vader says regarding the deal Lando had with him, "Pray I don't alter it any further", referring to the deal.

Yeah, that was great.

Good to see you guys are back up and running again!

Bethesda shafted them, but Obsidian fucked up as well. According to Jason Bergman:

Final three months of development were bug fixes and scrambling - SCRAMBLING - to optimize. PS3 was virtually unplayable until about six weeks before submission. Less than 45 minutes of up-time and 10 FPS. [Lead] Programmer Frank Kowalkowski pulled some serious last minute voodoo to make it work at all. That guy is a genius.

If the game (or at least the PS3 version) had been delayed, Obsidian would've been in much bigger trouble than the Metacritic thing. Kowalkowski crunched and saved the day, and Feargus thanked him by firing him during the Stormlands layoffs.

Might be my memory playing tricks, but I recall an interview with Feargus where he was quite open that their bug tracking system was literally medieval and they had to rework it from scratch after the fiasco, which led to newer games having much better polish.

Bethbryo didn't play well with the PS3 at all. That's a Fallout 3 and Skyrim issue too.

I was working at night as a guard at the Obsidian offices, during the time when they were developing New Vegas. I don't know if you remember me, you were one of the owners back then.

I can assure there was nobody there, just me and my buddy janitor Rodd Boward. Annoying little fella always asked me if I bought Fallout 3. He left suddenly after New Vegas and I never heard from him again. My best friend... Here I found his photo:

Here's your secret bonus answer: Please keep me on your ignore list, I don't want your support in any way, shape, or form. It would be a blessing to me if you didn't see another post from me, and you have the honor of possibly being the first "person" I've ever said that to.

And here's a "secret bonus" request from me: Before you add me to your ignore, "Sailor," would LOVE a link to your Pillars tumblr (?), as there is a distinct smell of bullshit floating in the feces motes around your profile, on so many levels. Prove me wrong.

I really wouldn't be surpriseed if there was actual footage of Todd Howard flying into Obsidian's offices with a jetpack through a open window. There's just something about him that has always annoyed/creeped the fuck out of me.

I think the general sentiment is understandable. Nobody enjoys being embarrassed like that, and if external Fallouts became the main attraction, it'd be quite demoralizing for the devs and also bad for business.

However, their solution should prevent any empathy. Instead of learning from the experience and trying to make something in the same vein, they clutched their pearls and went in the opposite direction. FO4 is the anti-FNV, and instead of funding/making another interesting spin-off, they pull a repurposed-FO4 online shooter that nobody ever asked for.

Their solution was also short-sighted. Sure, they didn't get showed up by Obsidian again, but that didn't prevent other games from making them look even worse. In the end, they were embarrassed all the same and passed up a guaranteed $500-800 million profit.

This. Even though the money would be same for Bethesda, they would be helping direct competition on getting a reputation on making better games in what is considered Bethesda's area of expertise. If Bethesda had been able to buy Obsidian, they would have gladly given Fallout or any other open world project to them, but in a timeline where Obsidian remains free and independent it would be a really bad decision to give them any further Fallout games. Some other publisher might come in and swoop them and now suddenly you have one of your (publisher) competitors building on the reputation you helped to create.

At that point in time, it was only Bethesda and Obsidian who had done a crpg like that. Them Polish where still doing something, and Witcher 3 blew the lid off way way later. So in a way, Bethesda wanted to keep their monopoly for themselves.

The thing with Bethesda is that they are always going for the "cool shit" and dumbing it down. Their lesson from FO3&FNV was more of this bullshit, and raping what ever lore was left to rape.

Hopefully Project Indiana will be a massive hit and people will finally realize how shitty games Bethesda actually makes and they will have to adapt and we might have a shot of a decent Fallout game. (Not gonna happen, Bethesda gonna Bethesda)

And here's a "secret bonus" request from me: Before you add me to your ignore, "Sailor," would LOVE a link to your Pillars tumblr (?), as there is a distinct smell of bullshit floating in the feces motes around your profile, on so many levels. Prove me wrong.

Question to Chris Avellone :

What do you think about the dialogue wheel of Alpha Protocol in hindsight? I usually don't like dialogue wheels in RPGs, because you simply can't shrink down a few sentences into 2 words, and this leads to characters saying different things than what is implied in the dialogue wheel.

The reason I liked it in AP was that it didn't wanted to do that. It just showed the attitude/style of the answer, so you knew what you are getting into. Also. the timer on the answers added to the flow on the conversations, so it felt more natural. I kinda miss these kind of dialogue wheels in other games.

Would you do something like that in your future games? Or you would improve it somehow?

I can only say I really liked Myron.

I liked him same reason I liked Rhynn in Numenera - he was a fuck the meta character, who tried to be useful with something else but high combat stats and while he was terrible, he was hilarious enough to carry around in spite of bad stats. I just like characters like that.

Chris Avellone Thank you for Nok-Nok. A superbly written companion. Where does he rank among all the characters that you've created?
Jubilost was pretty amazing too.
