I don't want to state the obvious, but the choice in leaders more or less doesn't matter - they're going to DLC the shit out of this. The Greek split is one indicator of their plans in this regard. But you can almost bet that Napoleon will be added to France at some point, for example. Surely. I reckon the plan is that each leader is better differentiated, to enable different strategies with the same civilization. We'll see.

yeah, and it makes much more sense to start out with less popular leaders and then add the big names later. easier to sell DLC for recognisable names.

Victoria as leader of England makes no sense because by the time of her reign, monarchy held little power. They should have gotten Elizabeth, the quintessential Queen of England.

I approve of Trajan though. Was about as Roman as it gets. :obviously: Monacled emperor that built bridges, baths and roads while expanding the borders of Rome to its greatest extent. way more representative of the Roman Empire than Caesar or Augustus were.

In a way, yes. He has overwritten Russian culture with Western.

Ivan IV would be better Russian leader.

Wow, some of the changes sound pretty extreme considering we're talking about a product that was shipped as ready and done by an experienced development studio.
Especially getting rid of the production overlap thingie that was basically the only way to get an efficient production economy going for the late game - talk about stubling around in the dark.

Whether the drastically reduced production costs for things like space projects manage to offset the loss of this option would require a game or two to get the feel for everything ... but the worst thing about Civ6 for me is that I don't feel the slightest urge to play these games, even though I'd technically have the time right now. :(

Because she really wasn't. She got crowned, got married to Jagiełło (which IIRC she wasn't too keen on, but advisors talked her into it)
Jagiełło did all the ruling and ass kicking, whereas she managed to die of postpartum fever at the ripe age of 30.
Still, there was a cult following surrounding her well before she was recognized as a saint.
So I guess it's as good a choice as any if you desperately want a female religious leader.

Still, I am literally crying of laughter here. Jadwiga was a heavily built, 180 cm monstrosity (now try to process it through XIV century standards).
What Firaxis gives us is a lithe waifu that looks like she's about to hug a tree.

So yeah, she'll go along nicely with Catherine de Medici and other retardations. Why pick a guy who beat the Ottomans? Why pick a guy who got his hands on Moscov?
Me, I would pick Wałęsa to generate more butthurt among the Pollacks (I think I saw him in some mod or another in a previous civ, or was it official content?).

I'm puzzled by Sukiennice as a unique building, statues of the one and only Polish Pope would be much more appropriate, and they would work nicely.

    but... HUSARIA, KURWA!!!1111

Just finished a quick Deity game with the new patch. Military AI is still braindead.

So does anyone still have any doubts about this game's :incloosive:agenda? And she looks like she fell out of a Dreamworks movie.

Well TECHNICALLY the gal from the vid above was crowned King (not Queen!). But she was then quickly married off to a Grand Duke of Lithuania who also became King and though they were theoretically co-rulers, he was practically in charge.

Torrent's up. Not sure if I'm up for it as it looks like the same shit but with slightly smoother edges.

Do all the shit Jadwiga never could because of all those filthy cis-het oppressors.

If you don't understand german, the first part is about impressions from the beautiful polish countryside, the second part about polish high cuisine. :P

Holy fuck. These are some big changes. I'm so glad they added Alert action, but I really thought stacking district buildings was intended behavior. Even doing that, it takes forever to build most things. Does "diplomatic deals" under UI mean you'll now be able to see the deals you have ongoing with other civs?

Fuck, I just got to listen to Jadwiga's voiceover. The cringe levels are unbearable. Not only is the text off, as if something was lost in the translation, but the delivery of those lines is horrid as well. Obviously it's not going to affect you non-polish-speaking folk, but I'm personally pretty butthurt.

Actually, the politically-correct shit reaches it's peak with the great people. There is some woman as a 'great scientist' because she... wait for it... exchanged letters with some professor. That's it. Not that she bothered to actually invent something. By this standard, half the codex consists of 'great people'. :D Not that I ever doubted that. :D

Jadwiga, who was king for 4 years, while she was too young and the state was de facto ruled by some nobles although without a formal regent? I thought her only achievement as a leader was that she got married off at the age of ~14 years to a pagan warlord from Lithuania (against her will at that). Said warlord made king would be a better choice, Wladyslaw Jagiello kicked Teutonic ass, manoeuvred his dynasty and his state into greatness despite a shitload of problems the least of which was him being illiterate. Although he had to give privileges to nobles to overcome some of the problems, such as succession rights.

Oh sure, she helped the university and did support the arts and science. But that was when her role was being a medieval first lady to Wladyslaw Jagiello. Meh, typical progressive pick to please the inclusive crowd.

Should have added Pilsudski, with Bereza Kartuska as a special building :obviously:

Also what is the Codex verdict on this overpriced cartoony 4X? Dumbed down much from CiV? Maybe improved?

It's bad, but fuck the voicover. What i'm most butthurt about is that crest 1) it looks nothing like our eagle 2) IT LOOKS TO THE LEFT. Is that some kind of a leftist manifesto?

Everything about this is lolrandom and ahistorical. They even got the Hussars wrong.
