How do Shia uprisings work? So far they've been utterly ineffectual in dividing the huge Muslim blob. I think the blob has simply reached the critical mass where nothing can really destroy it.

Got a Muslim Hungary and Bohemia, I've never seen the AI do anything close to this.

In my game Christians are holding fairly well, even if Abbasids are super-empire (Shi'a seem to have zero chance at establishing themselves without player guidance), though a big reason might be that mighty Finland has been checking the Seljuks at every turn.

What are the requirements to block rivers for raiders? I remember devs said something about high level of Fortress but that doesn't seem to work.

After several restarts as the Avar count in Balaton, I am finally on the way to become the King of Hungary. Hope that Bulgaria stand firm as a buffer against Byzantines while I gobble up the Slavs to the north.

Raiding is unbelievably tedious. Haven't played more than 10 years because I'm constantly restarting. Maybe vikings aren't for me.

Abbasids are the current rape-machine in that region, until the Seljuks arrive.

I've just kidnapped a young Prince of the Abbasid empire. So...
...for the maximum troll effect should I make him a spoiled little monster or rather a good king/norse inner agent?

One of the Caliphates of the Muslim blob turned out culturally Greek due to his mentor. Had a laugh imagining some Hellenophile Bedouin ruling over a vast empire stretching from Hungary to Italy to North Africa.

Surviving as a child when the regent wants to kill you really is something.

Karen isn't bad (duchy of Merv). Eat up the weaker Muslims around you, then move into Persia. Always keep lots of money for mercs on hand.

    From easiest to hardest:
Karen - Gilan - Bavandids (vassal of the only Shia emir in Persia and has no free stacks unlike the other two other zoros)

Karen has more land to start, but is holed up in a corner and will often be hemmed in by powerful kings and even emperors to your N/S/SW, and to your W you have Gilan who you can't quickly annex since they are the same religion (or they are eaten up by the Abbasid's), so your expansion is limited. Gilan OTOH can absolutely abuse holy war on so many things at once, rapidly ballooning in power.

I dunno, I think Gilan is a bit easier if you are lucky enough to not be holy warred by the Abbasids for the early years. In 5 years as Gilan I had everything straight up through Armenia to Georgia along with a duchy each from the Alavids and Dulafids. Those 3k troops you start with let you push over a lot of minors, but Karen's 3k troops end up being used up in your first war against some muslim sultan early on because you are literally the only target they have in that corner.

The toughest challenge for Gilan is to get that Duchy title asap.
Mind you, the Justinad liege has decent stats, not a single one below 7 - but he has very limited demesne limit.
You have to quickly usurp a Duchy title if you want to get anywhere.

    Also, last night FUUUUUUCK moment.
