<p>Eurogamer is next to join the <a href="http://www.companyofheroesgame.com/" target="_blank" title="CoH">Company of Heroes</a> love fest. Kieron Gillen managed to keep his <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=67931" target="_blank" title="Eurogamer Review">adulations</a> to 2 pages and wound it up with a perfect 10 score.</p><blockquote><p>But it's in the absolute fundamentals where Company of Hero takes the expected and pushes it into the realms of the extraordinary. Not since Total War have we seen a primarily mainstream strategy game decide to base its mechanics so firmly on real life. Most RTS still base themselves on the idea that attacking an opponent will reduce their health by a certain amount, simply modified depending on whether their unit is a counter to the other. In most, troops with swords can still hack down castles. Company of Heroes takes a more naturalistic approach, which makes things more dramatic, compelling and... well, tactical. </p></blockquote><p><a href="http://www.computergames.ro/site/p/articles/o/review/lng/en/artid/801/" target="_blank" title="CG Review">Computer Games Romania</a> (94/10) and <a href="http://www.gamezilla.com/review.aspx?review=9323" target="_blank" title="Gamezilla Review">Gamezilla</a> ("Buy") also recommend it. So much peer pressure. </p><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><p><a href="http://www.tacticularcancer.com/gallery.php?dir=Company%20of%20Heroes&file=COH1.jpg"><img src="http://www.tacticularcancer.com/screenshots/Company%20of%20Heroes/thumbs/COH1_thumb.jpg" alt=" " width="200" height="150" /></a>

As soon as I finish the campaign, I'll write up and post my review. Its going to be somewhat glowing as well. The game does have faults and is not the answer for to all the conventions plagueing the genre, but its just a very well done and put together game. Campaign seems to be dragging right now, though.

I was poking around the SomethingAwful forums:

Right. That review of yours Greatatlantic better be all about the gameplay.

He does then go on to say that his main gameplay complaint is it's difficulty and, while it is pretty hard, I didn't have too much difficulty fighting the AI on easy (and I am as SHIT as they come at RTSs). I got trampled as the Bosh when I tried it on Normal though, thoroughly tampled.

I thought it was good, but the magazine reviews are more than a little overenthusiastic, as usual.

That's actually quite true, in a surprising way. I was playing a campaign mission last night and was positively surprised to send a sherman in the thick of about 6-7 german rifle companies and NOT have the sherman die (or even lose any health points). The tank just pwned the infantry, because the infantry didn't have any antitank weapons. As it should be.

    Pretty decent for an RTS.

Does Company of Heroes have aircraft? Like Bombers and Fighters and stuff?

Not as a controlable, spawnable unit. One of the Ally Companies, however, is Air Company. Airplanes can be called in as "powers" to do straffing and bombing runs, or to air drop supplies (one of the best powers in the game) but they are one shot deals for the munition costs. The game basically takes place in France after d-day when German air power was on the fritz, so the Axis have nothing.
