Yo. I'm trying to make my room mates PS3 controller work on his PC so he can play his old PS-games on the emulator I just installed. For some reason though, it won't work this time. When I run the Test in DS3 MotioninJoy it registers all input correctly, but anywhere else any input from the controller doesn't register at all.

    Any bright, Codexian ideas?

Well, I know my controller definitely acts up from time to time, so I guess my first question/suggestion is whether or not the controller registers as fully charged or not. Not sure why exactly, but sometimes it just won't do anything until the battery is topped off.

Other than that, I usually fix that sort of thing with a quick pressing of 'Enable' in the control setup, even if you don't switch the controller profile (ie: PS2, PS2 w/ analog trigger, etc.)

Figure you've already tried re-pairing it with the computer, but usually a combo of this and what I've already stated fixes my woes.

    Don't use MotionInJoy. Use this.

Try setting it to different modes in Motionjoy. For some reason the only one which works 100% for me in PCSX2 (including the vibration feature) is the xbox 360 mode.

Use the Xbox360 setting for the controller. XInput is way better supported these days than DirectInput.

What makes this better than MotionInJoy?

Also does it support 64bit and have signed drivers?

No need to run a program that requires the internet and requires you to manually load drivers to work, and no sketchy advertisements that may or may not send stuff to China.

They work fine on my Windows 7 and 8 64 bit machines. Not sure if they're signed, but I never got any warning.

They must be signed then. It's a real pain in the ass to use unsigned drivers in Win7 64. You have to boot into debug mode.

Why would you do such a horrible thing to a computer, Grunker?

^ Because Crash Bandicoot is fun. So is Maro Kart 64 which we play once in a blue moon.

    ePSXe.

Tried clicking Enable, didn't work :/

I'll try setting it to XBox mode, otherwise I'm running with Rohit_N's suggestion.

I still play leaderboard platformers on the PC from time to time (Stealth Bastard, Super Meat Boy, etc.), and a console controller is more-or-less required for those. Unfortunately, console controllers are superior to any made-for-PC peripheral, so....

They're good for platformers and fighting games, and nothing else.

Not entirely true. Racing if you don't have a wheel 'cause you're a poor motherfucker like me and sports games are also better with the controller, I find. We mostly just use them for Crash Bandicoot, old Mario Games and Lylat Wars/Star Fox.

I like a controller for sports games, and flight/space sims too. Like Grunker I'm a poorfag with no wheel or joystick.

You know, consoles themselves are also suitable for poor people. :troll:

I can tell you from experience, though, that setting up a HOTAS or wheel/shifter peripherals can be quite a pain in the ass without a specialized desk or 'pit setup. Unless a racing game absolutely requires a wheel, probably a lot more convenient to use a controller. Flight/space sims, now... I have to use HOTAS. And the casual ones, I don't play at all.

My memory is a bit fuzzy but when I installed my controller, I remember having to hit the PS button to activate the controller to set it up. Couldn't get it to work until I did that. But that's the only thing I can remember and I did this a few years ago. When I had my PS3 hooked up anytime I unplugged the controller from the PC it would automatically turn the PS3 on, too.

MotioninJoy is Chinese spyware. I used it for Dark Souls a long time ago until I said fuck it and bought a 360 controller.

Download the update within the motionjoy program and it will solve your problem.

You realize you can just click a setting to have it emulate a 360 controller? I couldn't get the controller to work on Witcher 2 until I had it emulate a 360 controller because that's what it was set up for. Same buttons and stuff on both controllers.

Yup, given enough time, the program will start opening browsers to Chinese websites on it's own. Like I said, I used it before with a PS3 controller to emulate a 360 controller.
