CD Projekt released a bunch of new Cyberpunk 2077 screenshots during Gamescom last week, but this time we knew it was just a prelude to the release of a gameplay video, finally revealing the demo they showed to the press at E3 back in June. However, this year instead of full-length gameplay footage, CD Projekt opted to produce a shorter video edited down to emphasize particular aspects of the game. As we know, in the demo V is hired by the Voodoo Boys, a gang of Haitian netrunners, to take on a rival gang of augmented bodybuilders called the Animals. The video demonstrates how two different character builds might approach this challenge - a "Strong Solo" combat specialist and a Netrunner. Along the way there are glimpses of character creation, inventory and hacking. The video ends with a confrontation that doesn't end well for V, apparently leading to the emergence of Johnny Silverhand, but CD Projekt seem to want to avoid spoiling anything here.

The video was followed up by a one hour Q&A session with several of Cyberpunk 2077's developers. You can watch the entire stream yourself here, or just read PC Gamer's summary of the most interesting bits. There's lots of cool stuff here for sure, but I suspect that lacking a satisfying narrative arc, this video won't have the same appeal as last year's gameplay reveal. I wonder if they plan to show more before the end of the year.

In case you're lazy and/or just want a succint bullet-point summary:
    • There's a hacking minigame in which players select hexidecimal sequences to unlock computers and their contents, such as "Camera Log" and "Officer Tracing."
    • There are "surprise" vehicles, aside from cars and motorcycles, that we haven't seen.
    • You can fast travel, but you can also walk or drive anywhere you need to go.
    • Your character background unlocks unique dialogue options.
    • Attributes, skills, and the perks you assign to skills affect what your character can do—the example given was a perk for the Athletics skill which allows the player to run while carrying a body.
    • CD Projekt is "looking into" how to divorce style from stats when it comes to clothing.
    • "Street cred" is your reputation score, and gaining it increases access to vendors, services, and cyberware.
    • A few weapons were discussed: nanowire, which can be used to hack or as a whip, an eight-barreled shotgun, a weapon that heats up bullets to "shoot off cyborgs' arms," and a handgun that shoots faster the longer you sustain fire.
    • You can play as a "cyberninja" who specializes in katanas.
    • Slow-motion cyberware isn't just for the player—some enemies may "zip around" while using it as well.
    • There are gun skins and attachments, such as scopes and silencers. Guns also have stats that can be improved.
    • As you get better at shooting a certain gun, your crosshair can become smaller, and your reload speed can increase, changing the animation.
Most of this was already known though.

    What does that mean?

Anyway, I watched the video and it seems there's already a graphical downgrade. Just like they did with The Witcher 3. It doesn't mean it won't still look great, but somehow, It's disappointing.

Also, didn't like the "boss fight". Bullet sponge, a glowing thing on the back that just screams "shoot here" and there we have the usual videogame trope.

The interpretation of a cynical mind:
It means they are looking into a non-immersion breaking way that enables you to wear a chainmail bikini while still benefittnig from power armor level protection. Like how MMOs have a "visual slot" where one set of clothing is displayed while you get the actual stat benefits from another set of clothing.

LARPers can dress up their virtual jailbait dolls in their favorite most outrageous emo fantasy infested skimpy schoolgirl outfit without having to down-vote the game on metacritic because they feel the game is unbalanced / they feel under-powered and can't manage to beat the tutorial. Or to use a catchy slogan: Play it. Your way. aka gib money pls filthy casuals!

This Deep Dive video has made a huge disservice to the game's hype but overall I don't think things are as bad as they sound.

Divorcing style from stats is a bad design decision but in line with what can you expect from CDPR: they will make a ton of money on those Samurai jackets. It fucks up immersion but it's livable. It's a game, sooner or later stupid shit will be introduced anyway.

    The meh part:
    - the UI is fucking atrocious, (looks like North Korea could potentially use it to torture blind lizards)
    - graphic downgrade is already visible, (Keanu looks so bad that he is almost unrecognizable)
    - combat is somewhat off, (it looked much better in the previous 48 minutes video, what the fuck happened!?)

    The emotionally neutral part:
    - Haitian super netrunners gang is a little far fetched but it looks cool I guess, (maybe we get the option to curbstomp them !?)
    - Gits, Akira references are plentiful, (not bad but I hope they don't go overboard with them)
    - you can fight, you can hack and everything between those ... but they did not mention if you can talk your way out from many situations !?

    The good part:
    - the story seems interesting (at least the main theme makes sense in a cyberpunk context compared with the bullshit from the last Deux Ex game)
    - internet is specifically retro and synchronized with what the '70 and '80 writers believed about the future, (I like it)
    - thermoptic camouflage, datacenter zeppelins, AI-controlled hotels, Trauma system ... they did their homework.

In the end, I think this game will be good despite all the autistic screeching and it will become a classic simply because of the staggering amount of stuff they added to the world. That's how a AAA title should work.
That being said, I don't expect anything revolutionary from it however I do expect something better than the last Deus Ex game (whatever its name was). That's the lowest bar possible.

It looks like shooter with too much of everything. Will install and play when it comes to gamepass ultimate .

Playing crpgs that demand reflex and shooting in fpp from the player is kind of pain in the ass.

I would like Witcher 4 much more in any form than this kind of futuristic semi crpg hybrid. Too much Matrix like theme and generic Blade Runner universe with punk flavour don't get me overhyped.

I think that baroque style of everything in this game, from UI to audio-video and colours attacking every cell in the brain, will make playin this rather painfull experience.
It's not matter of gfx detail, as every game released in last 10 years have rather good gfx, but overall design of it and composition. It feels like visiting arabian market.

Game will be good, no doubt, and marketing will do the rest, but i prefer vision of future in more System Shock or Mass Effect non-dystopian, marxist free kind of way.

"Less is more" looks like good path for making science-fiction game , here i feel so much oposite. It looks for me like overheated form trying to depict rather simple story. Why have you left Witcher universe CDP, just fuckin why?
As for placing real world actor in the game as one of product sellers hurt the franchise, last time it was done good in Wing Commander III.

Way of this game serves all the details makes me overfeed:

So for those following this more closely than I do:

Will this game be mostly a shooter/action kind of game or will it (could it possibly) play out more like Deus Ex with alternative solutions, good stealth and the possibility to avoid combat?

UI and general style looks really good to me, this video does obviously look a lot less fluid and quite a bit more janky than the previous long reveals have. I'm hoping that for some reason they just decided to demo this on console hardware, which does kind of look to be the case due to the way the camera moves when there are actual gameplay scenes, it looks like they played this with a controller. Both of those things seem like stupid decisions to do demoing the game but maybe they are hoping to show it as such so console gamers aren't as salty on release when the glorious PC gaming race will still have it looking at its best. I can only hope at this point. I also noticed that it seems as if they did away with nudity during character creation? Why? I thought we were promised that this would be an "adult" game. More than graphical downgrades or anything else I'm mostly worried about them kowtowing to SJW/leftist propaganda and media to alter their game to be more "sensitive" to that sort of soyboi degeneracy. I guess we'll know for sure in 7 months or so.

I have the slight sensation that the 99% of the users who are criticizing the art style of the game never read a single page of Gibson in their entire life, let alone playing CP2020...

Aside for that. The gameplay looks average for an open world game and the story - like in all CDP games - probably will be the main course

All that Hitman-like custom content to hack looks unreal for a big game, if they really manage this and game allows ghosting and shit hats off to Reds. Want to play all GITS and cyber melee, even if fighting system probably won't be better than even 2001 Oni.

Let assume that everything in terms of form is good.
    Let assume that what

    and

said is true, and everything is good - roleplay system, its integration into the game, UI, graffixx is good, the wolrd is big and full of content and details.

But what it will be used for? What I will get from this?
The game full of Negros, where I will be home snowball who working for this or that Negro?
I'll get the world, choke full of various "strong women" like this gang leader?
And it doesn't fucking matter that I can kill them all, like some retards said - if you can kill them, you therefore accept their - such character and content right to be there, so you are playing THEIR game on their rules.
Let assume it will be perfect in form game - with absurdly shit content.
I understand that gamers are junkies in nature, so I expect people will be defend that shit.

And yeah, I haven't read Gibson - if he was also the person who placed such feministic/sjw content in his books, I don't want to know him, also does it matter at all if somebody read his books? Is this game a ride on nostalgia or its own self-sufficient product?

I wasn't impressed by video, instead the more I see, the more questions come to mind.

I belive you, but I don't think that shit is in game because it makes sense, because it's EVERYWHERE - no matter does it makes sense or not.
So in this setting it's just "more justified" kind of pushing things down your throat.

It's not strating. It has always been. Any time I read a critic focused on how SJWish this game is, I gladly pass by. Same when the main topic of said critic is how racist-maschilist-anti religious a game is...

It seems like the degree of SWJism present in a piece of narrative is per sé a hint of its quality.

Honestly, reading a blank page is more interesting than reading this kind of post

What I mean is we tend to overreact to such things as female boss or a black gang because of the SJW shit which is no doubt absolutely evil. For example this black gang is a strong reference to Gibson’s rasta cyber guys, which were really neat bunch mixing jah rasta stuff with cyber criminal stuff and to some extend some religious and philosophical stuff. I liked them really, they have style for sure. The same for female character, Gibson had his Steppin Razor — an over modified implanted woman with synthetic eyes, she was strong as fuck because of implants, and she had some primitive values like money and stuff (at first glance). And this collage made a good story because of her character development. An there was no SJW at all, just stylistic decisions made by author.

I mean we need to calm down a bit on regards of SJW representations nowadays. Otherwise we will start being really who SJW pretend us to be.
