Restated game on easy too... Good thing that picked this up at 12 Jewgold, all those bonuses you got with game are (almost) worth the grinding. In AoD combat at least skipable when you can't into it. So it is worthy to tag more than Melee, Armor, Sturdiness and Holy Protection for Paladin? Shield and Defence is making some difference later on?

I don't know if I'd say the game is as bad as Lionheart. Lionheart has better writing and, I feel, a better setting. However, the gameplay in Lionheart is significantly worse. Once you get the hang of how to command your followers effectively in Inquisitor, it's possible to actually use a degree of tactics in combat. Lionheart also has major problems like a shit interface, difficult targeting (hope you like running straight into your enemies instead of attacking them), and the fact that monsters run way too fast (faster than you most of the time) makes playing ranged characters damn near impossible. Inquisitor has none of these issues. Combat is hardly as good as Diablo II, and lacks the options of an Infinity Engine game, but at least it's playable, and when it works, can actually be fun from time to time.

To be fair, the lack of preparation is sort of my fault... but still, holy shit is it frustrating. There really needed to be more of a ramp up to the dungeon. I have managed to get through the hardest fights by using hit and run tactics to draw enemies out one by one (those throwing axes are good for something after all), but it just goes on way too long either way. It's not as bad as, say, some parts of Baldur's Gate (like Durlag's Tower and needing to walk out every time to sell stuff, or the horrendously bad Firewine Dungeon), but it's definitely up there.

Also, wait, what's this about shopping and not having to drag and drop? Explain!

There are icons bellow the shopping window. Click on the "Buy" icon - it should become highlighted. Now you can buy stuff with one click. Similarly, you sell the stuff with "Sell" icon.

When you're on the shop screen below the merchant's items are a series of icons. If you click on the "Buy" icon, which I believe is hand holding coins, then you can just click on the items you want to buy and they go straight into your inventory. It's really handy when you're buying the metric fuck tons of potions you need in the mines. I believe there's also a sell option that does the same in reverse.

I'm liking the game quite a lot, but it is definitely exceptionally rough around the edges.

I also learned how to pause the game - hit pause/break. Would be way easier if it was, say, spacebar by default, but I guess this really is a real-time with pause game now. o_O

haha exactly. I already have the game installed on my hard drive, but i haven't started playing yet. I'm reading this thread and from my initial being very enthusiastic about the setting, old-school style, isometric perspective and supposed "evidence collecting" i went to - "should i waste my time on this shit?". Good ol' codex indeed. :rpgcodex:

It means only you are suspectable to external opinions which means failed [Wisdom] and [Willpower] checks. Bought it and installed this? Atleast try it by yourself faggs. Game is old school so not quest compass or fast travel from dungeon and was anounced to have Diablo combat from the start, so pick an easy get 60 potions and you're set. The Setting and Story are still strong and complains about walls of text on my Codex? :x get back to Skyrimjob and Ass defect Niggers.

Not really... they may be strong on their own, but since so far there's no real gameplay involved around them, they feel diconnected from what you are doing.

If they were well-written walls of text, then I wouldn't complain. Alas I catch myself spacing out while reading them, and I am quite a storyfag who knows his stuff when it comes to writing.

I 'must confess', though that the second area does look more promising. I already started wondering if I hadn't spilled the beans too early (here's one hoping for C&C).

Also, to my mind Inquisitor doesn't have Diablo combat. It's more of a strange cross between BG1, Diablo and Arcanum. And I really cannot say I am enjoying it.

Raiding the iron mines with priest right now and getting frustrated.. I have to endure that shitty combat for 6 levels?! Aaargh!!
The game's been pretty good so far and now it takes that "shitty dungeon crawler" twist. Reminds me of Lionheart..

But Unlike Lionheart the Start City is not the bigest in whole game... Start Dungeon is so there's some :incline: ahead.

I'm level 24 in the second act now. Some monsters( well, quite a lot of them actually) are frustratingly difficult, being able to single-handedly wipe the floor with both my dog and paladin companion in just a few seconds, so for much of it I just end up kiting with the locust spell or freezing them. The difficulty really is rather insane. Also not sure I'm a big fan of how the spells work; you've a % chance to successfully cast the spell depending on the enemy's level. Problem is, even with my Infernal magic at 20(maxed), my frost spell still end up just having like 20-30% chance on quite a lot of the enemies. And for some reason, 30% chance feels more like 10% chance. Which isn't a good thing when the spell has a three seconds cooldown and the companions are dead in two.

Still, other than that, the instantly respawning enemies, Arcanum's real-time-like combat and that one long orc dungeon, I really rather like the game. No next-gen bullshit/hand-holding, interesting quests, exploration pays off, decent atmosphere...Yeah, it's fun. I've even read like 90% of the text, so it can't be that bad.

I think the second act can be summed up with these sentences.

You open a door, behind the door are several high-powered spirits. Everything you know and love is now dead.
    Rinse and repeat.

    Alright, I agree.

    Strong Lionheart vibes.

I've got all the missions in the first town but in each unlocked location it's just trolls, ogres, acid and lava pits and spiders. I'm burning through health potions like there's no tomorrow and enemies are enormously hard to kill.

I'm playing a priest, any advice?

rather, let me rephrase: my followers are burning through potions like there's no tomorrow, my priest is useless as I've used up all my symbols/seals, and cash is really tight. How the fuck do I navigate combat?

I'm working on the first big case, I've visited the execution spot and the dragon rock area, but i keep getting swamped with enemies and bogged down. Halp Codex.

I went with 8 points into Melee first and 6 points into Armour. Good enough at the beginning.

Then I focused on the Magic of Miracles and Wisdom pumping both up to 12 points. Magic of Miracles has some awesome spells: Blade of Fire whisch is an excellent buff for your melee priest and his followers. There's also Locust Swarm which is simply amazing once you reach Student level.

Kite like there's no tomorrow. If your magic is too weak, use pentacles/signs - I am level 24 and still keep using them (stronger ones for AoE, weaker for opening chests).

BTW, did anyone find Raise Dead spell? I am in the second act and still don't have it - it could be useful for resurecting party memebers who are two-shot killed no matter what I do.

Every time you enter a shop keeper's inventory it gets randomly reassigned, within certain item types. Go to someone who sells a lot of scrolls, like a temple priest, and just stand there asking to see his wares. If he has scrolls you want buy them, if not cancel out of the screen and ask him again, he'll have a different assortment of scrolls.
Every merchant works the same so you can get some ungodly powerful RNGed items pretty easily.

Just as a little tip it's well worth putting 6 points in Pagan Magic. That lets you learn Shatter; which allows you to open chests, barrels and the like without beating the shit out of them for 5 minutes because your NPCs can't seem to hit a fucking stationary box. It works on trapped things as well.

Yeah, this is what concerns me. Reported spending 70% of the time in shitty combat and non-existant gameplay in other departments which are those that supposedly make this game good. If that's true - then it's a terrible, hard to explain even, design oversight on developer's part. Nobody's talking about fast-travel absence or even the interface clunkiness. But repetitive combat encounters, kiting like crazy and AI retardedness of companions (which are at the same time a necessity if you play a priest, as it seems from what you guys write)...ahh. I surely will try it out myself though.

I know that but scrolls of levitation and raise dead simply do not appear in shopkeeper's inventory list. I somehow managed to find levitation scroll elsewhere, but raise dead still eludes me.

Hm, I managed to find both of those in one of the stores. Think it was the temple in the first town.

    Buy more (cheap) seals, bro.

    Here's my tactics:

If there is room to maneuver and you have decent speed, press G to make your followers hold position, kite, spam the fire/light/frost-bolts and drink mana potions as needed.

In dungeons and other "confined" spaces, hit A, make sure D toggle is set to allow drinking of potions and try your best to help your followers dispatch the enemies before you (they) run out of potions and die.

I went with max INT and SPD and rest in CON. When you reach 250-ish mana (with +items), you don't "need" much more (potions are cheap). DEX is useless for a priest, IMO. Strength is somewhat useful, but you can live without it until you get INT and SPD to at least 40. CON is good, but not necessary until later.

I bought (cheap) items that give extra mana, stamina or to hit. Later you can replace them with (expensive) +skill items. Remember to save before receiving an item for quest rewards, they have random stats in most cases.

Use one-handed weapon and shield to have more +items. Shopkeepers have different prices (depends on how you treat them). Check prices and repair/sell/buy potions from the merchant with the best prices at the moment. Repair items before you sell.

Be careful to stock up on stamina potions as well. You need stamina to cast spells, not just attack. If you run out of stamina, you can't run (usually) or cast and if there are enemies still alive, it's F9 time again.

Don't invest in Identify skill. There is a spell that does it just as well. Mana restore (?) is also of dubious value, IMO.

Shatter is the shit. You can even kill enemies with trapped containers if you're quick (and lucky) enough. Light is great in dungeons. Raise Dead is really good as it restores full Hp (and everything else I think). "Flame weapon" is good. Levitation too. "Mana shield" is good if you have a big mana pool and don't want to be instakilled by some enemies. In general spells you don't need to cast on the enemies are much better as they don't fail.

I find it retarded that level requirements of magical skills are so high. I'm not using those boxes to teleport around (they fetch a ridiculously high price)! :keepmyjewgold:

I'm guessing once you get "mark and recall" type of spell (I think it's 3rd skill level), things get much better.

    Not there yet :x

Yep, pure spell caster definitely isn't easy-mode. Level 35 for third mastery on spells, and not a single AoE damage or crowd control spell available before that. Just have to kite and locust/freeze yourself through slowly. I've level 15+ on all seven magic skills, yet all the other spells still suck badly. The identify and open locks spells are really nice though. Hoping the good stuff's at 35, but I'm wondering if I'll ever get there.
