Does anybody actually like SKR? I haven't met anyone. Not among old-school players, not among 4e fans, not among 5e fans, not among PF fans. Where is the guy's base?

Heh... I guess his Five Moons RPG didn't pan out.

By the way, I checked out that Dragon "magazine" app as it was released on Android. And wow - what a waste of everyone's time that thing is. It's basically a thinly veiled advertising vehicle mainly to promote the D&D "brand" across different media. I remember a day when Dragon had interesting thought-provoking articles and actual gameable content (the early TSR era) - sadly those days are long gone. There is barely any game content at all in this version aside from some bits of lore. Very disappointing and a disgrace to the Dragon magazine legacy.

Regarding Dragon again - I noticed in the comments on Google Play this company responds to the negative ones: http://www.dialectinc.com/

It all becomes very clear now - it truly is a marketing, brand building vehicle, nothing more. So much for that...

I actually just did too. I haven't played any D&D since 2nd edition about 100 years ago (or any P&P RPGs for that matter).

However, hearing some people talk about what a WoW-inspired abomination 4th edition was, and what a return to old-school form 5th edition is, it inspired me to pick up the new core books (plus they're pretty cool looking).

I've been impressed by the art too, it's maybe the best PNP art since Tony DiTerlizzi's work on Planescape.

The 5E art is overall decent. I like the return to a more realistic, grounded style. Except for the halflings:

I don't know how can it be. Omitted 4th E entirely so maybe I'm missing how much WoW-y it was, but 5th strikes me as too much WoW as well.

...which is just called 'Dungeons & Dragons.'

Which kind of makes sense if you consider the approach they took, but otherwise adds to the confusion.

Just like 3rd and 4th edition. "nth" edition has never actually been part of the official name, that's just something gamers have been appending to make it clear what we're talking about
Not at all. It's easy to get sneak attack damage on every hit as a rogue, and that means a lot of extra damage. There are no creatures that are immune to sneak attacks, so rogues are just as reliable as other classes.
Their biggest weakness is that they don't get any extra attacks as they level up like fighters and other weapon using classes do, so you can easily end up doing fuck all on a turn if you miss with your single attack.
