Dark Souls: Prepare to Die has been released on PC, here for example.

Here's the release trailer, shamelessly copied from Gamebanshee:

Unfortunately the developer coulnd't be arsed to port the game properly, resulting in problems like having only 15 frames per second and the game being locked at 1024x720 resolution. Would r00fle if I had the time.
    Anyway, modders will fix it.

is this the official Codex opinion? has anyone around here played it on the consoles?

the 'hard combat' part sound fine, the community fixes seem to work, but is it any good ?

I played it, and liked it a lot. I'll buy the PC version if I can get it to work decently.

Just what kinda fucking RPG is this? All the praise I hear regards to how hard the game is, now I haven't gone very far in game before I got sick of it and uninstalled, so I don't know how hard it really is but as far as I played, it is some shitty 3rd person shitfest a la Legacy of Kain, not the RPG of century as some weaboos claim it be. Yeah it sure does have stats, some arbitrary souls shit and a Resident Evil like inventory but I don't know man, it plays pretty much like your generic action game. Also I wonder how it is a good thing for a RPG to have hard actiony combat instead of a proper turn based tactical combat.

I don't think anyone claimed it was a good 'old school' RPG. Just an ARPG with really good/challenging combat.

    Resolution is fixed.
Framerate is a whole different matter though, as it seems the game logic is tied to it, changing the game to 60fps would make it run twice as fast. I doubt it will be as easy to fix, if at all possible.

Well I don't know, It has been treated like second coming of Jesus so I was expecting a satisfying game all around not just hard combat. To be honest, I had much more fun with The Witcher despite the shit combat.

From Software is something else. Control issues? Google up Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor.

No, it's not an rpg (and thus should not be in this forum).

Spend your money on Grimrock instead. Support rpg makers, not shit makers.

They're basically polar opposites on the ARPG spectrum. Witcher series is steeped in atmosphere and story but horrible combat and character progression. Dark Souls has great combat and customization but pretty much 'meh' in the atmosphere/story department.

speak with VoD about it then
    I got it already

if the community fixes this port I'll pick it up on sales or something, I'm in the arpg zone now, finding Witcher2 on DarkMode not so hard or dark, c'mon, at lvl 12 I had 7 points unused, now at lvl 24 I still have 12 unused points FFS! the hardestt part was when I controlled other chars like the first ghost soldier... but that took 5 deaths or so... only

Depends what part of my statement you find issue with... As much as I dislike Witcher I still think they do a good job with atmosphere and story. If you actually think Witcher is a good ARPG then... not much I can help you with, brah.

Or if you think Dark Souls has a good story then, yeah, again, not much I can help you with -- sorry not a fan of these barren world/empty/introspective jRPGs.

it doesn't even compare in immersion with Witcher. Witcher is a poor joke of a story .. it's like watching the Hercules series.

A good story is much more than that. But you'll have to figure out for yourself in time which is which.. or you'll be one of the lucky ones with low standards, and enjoy life.

Dark Souls blew me off my feet in 5 minutes..

More like Dark Souls: Prepare to Wait Edition. FFS. Why release shit on PC at all, when you can't be arsed to port it properly and on top of that start with region lock buttfuck from day one. Oh well, at least i have an extended period of time, during which i'll get to "demo" it without remorse. And when it's finally released worldwide maybe the modders have actually made it playable.

Get an American bro to gift it to you. No spoofing required.
