David Cage says American publishers think gamers are all gun loving red-necks. http://www.develop-online.net/news/3875 ... h-my-games

That guy is so full of himself, but I'm still curious about his next "game" nonetheless. :M

No, it's not that you made one of the most retarded games ever (HELP ME PUT ON MY MAKEUP LOL) nor that it was an overly glorified BigFish style game, it's because of America!

If the game sold well elsewhere but failed in america that's probably not due to the game being "retarded" or "overglorified big fish game" and perhaps the dude may have a point about the lack of marketing.
Also,"overglorified big fish game" wtf did you play the game ?

perhaps the man honestly thinks he is the one eyed king here who doesn't stoop to making childish shooters and singlehandedly proves that games can into mature art

Maybe his games are shit and boring but...

Isn't surprising. Marketing are lazy guys who are of course more interested in something they have done hundreds of time before and know how they have to do it instead of hyping a difficult concept of "child abduction". I'm more surprised about the fact that marketing guys seem to run the company instead of just doing what they are told to do from above :retarded:

While I sort of see where he's coming from (I can see where Fahrenheit and Nomad Soul could have been very hard sells), maybe he should spend less time whining and more time trying to make a game that is more than an interesting concept shackled to crummy gameplay.

Also, maybe my memory is playing tricks on me...but I remember them advertising the everloving fuck out of Heavy Rain in America, and I know no shortage of people who bought and played it.

christ I thought they said this game had fucking amazing cinematic graphics or someshit

at least give them a noticeable slight animation difference or change in walking rhythm when they shout

right now it looks like they're walking robots who project voices from a speaker of which in the shopping center scene sounds completely out of place as well

    (watches rest of it)

awww yeaah this is what playing games in the new millennium is all about

perhaps it says something about the innovation of the industry when it takes such a developer to accurately criticise it

I simply can' take the argument seriously simply because of the guy saying it.

Plus there's all those Wii games that sold like hotcakes...

Pretty sure what his game lack is actual interactivity and gameplay. How do you market a game without gameplay?

If you're exploring the boundaries of the medium anyways, do you want marketing? There's plenty of films that are legendary but not box office hits and were never meant to be. Plenty guitar gods that are unheard of by the mainstream but still have influence.

It is not that bad Heavy Rain was fun.

I liked it and it was a interesting experience and if they had only hired proper voice actors then it would be GREAT.

I mean the Detective was well done and great and he could actually speak ENGLISH!.

There is a game called Heavenly Sword for the PS3. Never played it, but the cinematics were so well done -- the best I have ever seen, both graphics and audio -- I watched the whole "story" on YouTube. That's my only contribution to this thread as

    says enough.

He's right, the publishers were nuts. Graphics over gameplay QTE galleries are where it is at today.

I remember when Omikron was released it got nothing but bad reviews, even on CGW.

I played the demo, remember a street with NPCs, going up and down a elevator, a nudy shot and I think some shitty fighting. There was some noise about David Bowie in the game..
