Keep an eye on it at other download sites, too. They tend to cut prices on Steamworks stuff a lot more than Steam itself.

Finished it. It was... okay. Nothing super impressive, but still worth playing.

    good:
    - decent environments
    - decent difficulty
    - have to choose augs carefully (you get something like 10-15 points)
    - boss fight isn't retarded
    - it's possible to play the entire thing non-lethally, including the boss
    - some areas have a very creepy atmosphere
    - encourages stealth
    - choices & consequences
    - cool characters
    - explains some stuff found in the main game

    bad:
    - crates. crates everywhere.
    - shitty, mysterious ending
    - too short

Interestingly, the moon base is mentioned again. I predict that's where the next DLC will be set.

I really, really hope the moon base idea is just an idea. That's some serious Austin Powers shit there. What are they going to do, fit it into when Adam gets launched into orbit when traveling to Panchaea?

The original DX was supposed to have a moon base level and one in the white house too.

I liked some of the dialogue, especially the delivery by AJ's VA, but the gameplay was mediocre at best and the plot goes completely CrispyFuck® towards the end.

I wasn't really all that disappointed because my expectations were pretty low going in, just like Bitcher 2.

The people that post actual discussions and are good posters (for the most part) have posted enough to make my decision, The fucking shit spam posters are easy enough to ignore.

I know enough it is NOT the Promised Land™ of a Deus Ex 2, however the sum of it's parts seem to be something close to what I would like to finally try and see for myself, and a much less shit experience of Invisible War.

    Gotta love Australian videogame pricing.

It appears Eidos Montreal is a learning animal.

I dunno, I remember a guy saying he thought DE:HR was inferior to IW, and that he realized the gravity of that statement. I also found myself agreeing with him, which was pretty surreal.

This was the mood I was in after a first-time 3 day 'marathon' of DE:HR

Dunno, I enjoyed it enough not to regret buying it, but yeah, it has it's flaws (as if the first part didn't). How you will like/dislike each feature you listed ultimately comes down to personal taste.
Right now I'm hoping for a big balancing patch (which will probably never come), before I start a second walkthrough, but there's also at least one modder tinkering with it right now.

This is pretty much how I felt about the game too. Except for the multiple approaches and the rather superficial use of DX1's major plot elements, DX:HR really doesn't do its primary influences any justice. It's all right as a game, and by modern standards it's probably a fantastic game (the popamole and AI are pretty good, actually), but there was nothing about the level design, characters or writing that really drew me in. Maybe the DLC is different, but unless there's a Mask of the Betrayer-level incline, there's no way I'm paying fifteen Freedum Dollahs for what should've been in the original game.

So yeah, it's the disappointment of the year for me too (so far). Serves me right for buying into the hype from the old DX fans.

Edit: Not sure about #10, though. For me the stealth was ridiculously easy so long as you used cover. Maybe it was a bug, I dunno.

BTW, Jaesun, don't rely on autosaves and quicksaves. It's probably been patched out by now, but I hit a game-breaking bug just before the final area and had to start the game from the very beginning because the autosaves, quicksave and my manual save from the beginning of the level did nothing to help.

Does the game go downhill after the leak? I thought it was good.

I didn't play the leak. Maybe if I did I would have had a better idea of what to expect from the game. I think it really just boils down to that--if you've been led to believe it's the second coming of Deus, you're likely going to be very disappointed; if you're just expecting a decent game with functional characterization, level design and writing despite being tailored for the console masses, you won't be.

I think most agree that the final bit is pretty horrible, though.

Stays fairly consistent, the last two levels before the final sequence (i.e. the dock and the lab) are probably the best in the game imo- there a lot of options and routes there.

Then the game gets pretty crappy for the final level, it's very linear, the enemies are pathetic, and the story/ending is a bit of a letdown.

If I were you I would wait for the inevitable GOTY edition to hit about $19 or so and then buy it.

    - no children to slaughter
    - "working girl" instead of "hooker"

    Nope, not Deus Ex.

Are there gonna be any more DLCs? I don't plan on buying this one until the price tag goes to something like 2 euro or maybe never because I don't like paying for content that should have been in the game already.

Btw, eurofags should check out g2play.net if you want to save some money. Yes, you get the steam key. I got the game for a 40% or so discount on my preorder.
