This looks the perfect example where people who bought the game will end up playing a cracked version, if one does come up.
Ubisoft had some games like this and they were cracked, but I don't know how much of the game is online so they could make a fake server.

I'm happy as long as Blizz refuses to acknowledge the issue. This sort of stuff adds to the cause of keeping sp games local.

I don't believe anyone (including said journalist) so far has been hacked without doing something stupid like:
    a) Sharing their account
    b) Using a sketchy wow addon which captured their b.net password a while back
    c) Attach extra security like SMS or free authenticator after being 'hacked' and pretending they did it prior

Thousands of people getting hacked isn't new or interesting, and certainly not evidence of any sort of exotic, complicated, account hack.

So instead of Blizzard fucking up in a reasonable manner, you think thousands of people are conspiring to lie to make Blizzard look bad, who they just gave $60+ to.

Given the high percentage of retards who would've bought Diablo 3 - and installed some kind of hack / custom patch software / been victim to a keylogger already, you have to consider that J1M's theory is reasonable. It doesn't matter what authenticator you have if someone's got a keylogger already on your system and can grab your password.

The interesting thing now is that previously, when games were hacked, the gamers were the ones who got a free game. It was a victimless crime - for anyone other than the developer. And then the argument as to "how many copies would those pirates really have bought" comes up. In this instance though, hackers now will get access to gamers gold which they can turn into real cash. We're going to have thousands of gamers complaining about being stolen from. Depending on the law of the country in question, each one of these could theoretically end up involving the police. All of a sudden Blizzard have a massive clusterfuck on their hands - all because they got greedy and wanted all those micro-transactions.

I expect the "gold -> real cash" component of their system will be dropped very quickly.

I'm naive about the incidence of hacks, but wouldn't those using such things be the best prepared about exploits? I'd see the more likely victims as those new to the underbelly of hacking. Retards, all the same.

Re: getting rid of RMAH, there's long been suspicion that the DRM scheme was entirely for the purpose of walling in the AH. No, I see them continuing their attempts to swim against the current and will perpetually be 'fixing/patching' D3 until their next genuine MMO is released.

Well, perhaps. It matters to the extent that they would either need to be doing one of two things to get past an authenticator: 1) Be monitoring you in real-time as the codes change every 30-60ish seconds; or 2) be able to clone/spoof/whatever your IP address as on some accounts it will only ask you for an authenticator code every time you log in if you are doing so from a different location (funny enough people complained about having to use it every time so Blizzard made it this way by default). Both are possible, the latter more so than the former but it still isn't a simply a matter of having a keylogger on your system without something more.

Priceless. I'm sure the thread will be deleted soon enough as Blizzard covers their tracks. To summarize it in one post by one of Blizzard's 'MVP' tech posters:

Blizzard now is not the same company that was in the 90s.
Same goes for id Software, only two old-timers there.
Their fame is rightful, but it doesn't mean that it will shine forever.

it seems that the more success they get more dumbfucks join the company to monetize better their franchise
company + creative minds = success
success + time = dumbfuck company + greed management + slave labor

While I'm all for bashing ActiBlizz for their enormous appetites, the hack is more than likely on the side of the retarded players. Why? Simple really.

EU servers go down, what do the players do? They go to Google "Diablo 3 Forums" to talk about Error 33 or whatever. Did they all go to battle.net/diablo or did some of them get suspicious of the "weird address" and go to diabloforums.com instead? Good job dickheads, you just gave away your credentials to hackers, congrats. Face it, 95% of the general population are dumbfucks that are just a lil' too shy to admit it.

Those that didn't get "hacked" during the downtime probably downloaded a "trainer" or a "mod". You'll not believe the amount of times my dumbfuck acquaintances asked me how to get cheats for online-only games or how to play a pirated game on official servers and then be surprised that they can't fucking do that shit. Plus some stray keylogger/trojan on a fan site plus some random shit. I'm guessing the Diablo 3 security shite is about the same as WoW security shite so hack sources are likely pretty same as there.

Hmmm. Why are you still discussing downloading keyloggers and the like when it was revealed days ago that it had nothing to do with that?

Because even though some accounts may have been hacked by keyloggers and poor management of the account, they want to believe that all hacked accounts ever were caused by this.
That Blizzard isn't capable of making mistakes on a just released game.
It's actually very easy, we just need to close our eyes and imagine that Blizzard is great, try that too circ, it's better than alcohol!

It was? I can reveal anything at any point, is there proof to this reveal? Because just today the corporates gave a direct statement that it wasn't due to the revealed causes. Mind you, I am not saying it's not the case, but is there something a little more concrete than someone's claims?
