Difference between Baldur's Gate & Enhanced Edition?

I care neither for cutscenes or companion backgrounds and SJW stuff. EE has all the fun gameplay of the original combined with all the good mods in one easy to install package. It also added some cool stuff like screen going grey when the game is paused, outlines for characters to make them more distinct from the background, transition from game to map being cool and graphical AI options that actually work (used it for bard song and thief trap search).

At this point playing original BG1 is only for people that don't want to use mods and want the original 640*480 experience with no BG2 engine modifications. For BG2 there is no reason to not use EE unless you already own BG2 original and don't want to play 10$ for BG2EE (on sale) and would rather spend hours modding the game yourself.

You guys make it impossible to know which version those of us who own both should play. Guys above are right that the only complaints I read are "it's buggy shit!" while most elsewhere say the bugs have been fixed and you might as well play the EE.

 

Pardon for reactivating this thread but I'm reaching the end of BG1 EE and while it was a very solid experience overall I have to say there are so many ways to trick the game and exploit it because of the changes Beamdog made... it's much, much easier to beat than the original game: Many enemies don't even react if you are outside of their view and use area attacks like fireball. They normally don't even bother to look for the source of this fireball (in BG they attack you). Other enemies that talk to you - like Slythe in the Undercellar - now have to approach you directly to talk to you before they can attack you: If you simply walk back some steps before they reach you the other(s) in their group won't be triggered to attack you and you can take out one after another... I can't remember this being the case in the origial game or was it?

If yes then kys, but if you genuinely don't understand why EEs are shit, it's mostly the fact that they started a shitty trrend of "history revisionism" in videogames. Adding their own shit-quality non-optional content into the game and MOST IMPORTANTLY removing the original games from all stores is a practice that should never be endorsed.

It might not be a bad product with some patches and mods applied, but it doesn't change the fact that a group of faggots decided to claim the legacy of a classic franchise and revision it in their own faggot way and then delete the originals from existence. Also the fact that most changes the EE adds are pretty much unnecessary and could be achieved with mods long time ago, and my personal beef with them - BG1 running on BG2 engine is a heresy

 

You have to be a fucking blithering retard to need more than 30 minutes to install mods. Of those mods, only the G3 Fixpack, or Baldurdash if you prefer something more archaic, is really needed, the rest is optional, even Unfinished Business which brings back some cut content. Those two are installed in mere minutes including reading what they do in more detail.

As to the topic, do not give money to those scumbags from Beamturd. They deserve to crash and burn for the hacks that they are. All they can do is get license for art made by other people who actually possess creativity and cram gender and identity politics into a game that had no need for any of this garbage.

Are you fucking retarded? None of the UI crap was needed, BG2 played very well in its original form. Graphic overhaul? Like those shitty rings which are now visible even when characters are not selected? Or those god awful portraits for the new LGwhatever alphabet soup members which pale in comparison to either BG 1 or BG 2 originals.
They are hacks who bought a franchise, give it something which for the most part people have gotten for free via mods for decade and a half and you give them 22 bucks for this crap? Not only that but Black Isle logo was removed from the intro sequence so now newfag retards think it is actually their game when they are nothing but thieves of creativity, being devoid of creativity themselves, who could not come up with something if you would hold a gun to their head. To add insult to injury you cannot even buy the original version anymore. Am I glad I got my GOG versions in time so I am spared from their utter shite.

The only UI improvement I noticed was that you didn't have to manually unequip shield when equipping a bow.

 

Do the EE fix any of the pathfinding issues of the originals?

Just play the EE with the mod that removes the extra Beamdog content. Also the one that restores the original movies. If you have a dedicated retro gaming machine just go with the original with the fixes.

 

I'm all for bashing Beamdog's added content, and for arguing they basically hiked the price up on the originals, but this is a silly argument. You get the original versions bundled with Beamdog's EEs. That's the opposite of deleting them, it is in fact purposefully preserving them as options. I think at this point the price argument is kind of done too, since they've all been in $5 sales multiple times. However yes, you should be able to play the EEs with Beamdog's content additions turned off.

 

If they had an ounce of integrity they would have left the original versions as stand alone products. Of course no on in their right mind would pay ridiculous 22 bucks for the hack job that they did that modders did better anyway, for free I might add.

 

Yep, what Beamdog did is force people who want to play the originals to buy the EE, because you can't buy the original as a separate product anymore even though you previously could.

It's kinda like how the original Dark Souls is no longer for sale on Steam after the release of the enhanced edition (which had some issues of its own and wasn't compatible with all mods), or how Assassins Creed 3 is no longer available to buy after the release of the enhanced edition, except the Baldur's Gate case is worse because it's not even their own game.

 

Just buy it.
