Gotta love French writers when they really get their beret on.

Beat the game. Its good. Excellent probably, but its far from flawless/masterpiece tier, even if we decide to take the combat out of the equation completely.

There are no flawless RPGs. Yes, Disco Disco is not perfect, but you can also nitpick about PS:T's combat, or shitty last part, or Fallout's gameplay or whatever. To me, DE definitely belongs in the top tier of RPGs, unlike any other iso RPG post early 2000s.

Underrail and AoD belong there both, easily. Especially Underrail.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Congrats! A major French-language newspaper, Le Monde, just reviewed it:

https://www.lemonde.fr/pixels/artic...ngardise-tous-les-autres_6016374_4408996.html

They call it 'the CRPG that renders all others obsolete'.
Not obsolete, tacky. As for the newspaper , the folk at the codex would call them..liberal.

It’s just so weird that this indie RPG is being reviewed in major establishment newspapers like Le Monde and The Washington Post, or even a British tabloid like The Daily Mirror. Like, I didn’t even know WaPo reviewed video games.

What's so weird about this? I can't believe so many of you still don't get it.

They have other business relationships as well, possibly personal even. This Soros finances ZAUM studio head's brother's business as well.

Didn't one of the Kurvitzs (Raoul, I think?) also speak on now-executive-producer Kaur Kender's behalf during his child pornography trial?

Sounded big, so I just googled it. It was about a book Kender wrote, not actual child pornography.

Yeah, that's what the trial was about, to determine whether the work in question was literature or child pornography, according to Estonian law. Kender published a work called Untitled 12 online in 2014. It consists of detailed descriptions of the anal/oral/vaginal rape, genital mutilation (clitoridectomy etc.), sexual torture, vivisection and murder of children from infant age (under 3), to 16 years of age. The "titular" character is 12 years old. The defense argued that the work wasnt pornographic mainly because of the "literary" language used, citing as examples the use of the word "esophagus" instead of "mouth" when describing a little girl vomiting from oral rape, and on the assertion that "nobody could be erotically stimulated by reading this". The court ruled the work to be literature, not pornography, and Kender was acquited.

I know someone involved with it. As much as I dislike Kender, the hit on him was somewhat orchestrated for other motives. Him writing that garbage was just a convenient tool.

at ending of day 2 right now and i am already very tired of the game. the beginning was pretty cool, first scenes in the hotel room and stuff.... "emotional". most of the other stuff just isn't interesting for me, i just don't care about this world or its people. so much dialogue about some lore nonsense, in games like POE people used to trash this overload. i am glad i didn't pay full price but bought a steam key for 15 bucks on ebay.

Closer to yaoi fanart

This is pretty sweet tho
Can you actually get sweet baby pissfaggot to wear his jacket? I was disappointed when I got the jackets and he refused, but admittedly my Harry was shit at persuasion and I wouldn't see that as an authority check. Kim had limits to the amount of camaraderie with my Harry.

Final review.

Writing and presentation - 9.5/10.

It's a wonderfully written game and it deserves the place in storyfaggy pantheon along PST and Mask of Betrayer. Writing is usually excellent, often genuinely funny, full of captivating stories and the best cast of supporting characters and side-quest NPCs to ever to exist in a video game. All of that goodness is supported by beautiful, mellow, immersive soundtrack and lovely art design. Those three elements truly fit together like a glove and combine into a unique storytelling experience. I take half a point off for cringeworthy tryhard attempts at political commentary.

Mechanics and game design - 0/10

Quite frankly, developers are Serbian scam artists who make Todd Howard seem like an honest and respectable businessman.

Marketing: "90 hours of content in a world as big as sizeable chunk of the first Pillars with 5 times content density".

Reality: 20 hours of content, 5 buildings, 3 huts and 90% of content is in form of meaningless text orbs.

Marketing: "ground breaking open-world".

Reality: invisible walls, plot-gating, and NPCs fixed in their locations like it's 1995.

Marketing: "unprecedented levels of freedom with "revolutionary dialogue system".

Reality: Heavily railroaded game where almost everything is fixed and player has no agency. The ruleset is not even a ruleset, it's a decoration designed to look complex to casuals. To draw a comparison to Codex favorite CYOA by Vault Dweller, AoD gives you large number of builds that can produce countless different paths, while DE gives you large number of builds to go through the same path in slightly different way. Once you look under the hood how DE works, it becomes clear that despite seemingly large variety of builds, you're mostly doing the same things and talking to the same people in the exact same order and getting similar results.

Final summary:

Tremendous visual novel, bad video game.

HugeNick, over and out.

:terminate:

And then it was over, took me all of 23 hours. Top-notch writing and world building in this one. Disco Elysium has character in spades, probably my favorite game in this regard of the last couple of years. I'll write a Steam review now and pray to Dolores Dei that they make enough $$$ to give us a second game.

If they got/get enough money for an expansion or a second game,it would be great. It is pretty clear that they intended it to be bigger but runned out of money. Still this is the best wrapped up unfinished game. It really managed to make interested in the world and the characters.

Yeah it basically drops of a cliff after day 4. Feels like they sold half a game for a full game's price.

When replay second time, you start to notice it too... You barely change anything, just get to same results in (sometimes different, sometimes not) way.
