Short answer is no. But it's still good, with Universe and some mods and 10 hours trying to learn the game with a play by play guide. Also it kinda bogs down late unless your pc is decent.

Idk about guides, it's pretty straightforward and most of the shit is automated by default (which you can switch to manual as you learn new systems and such). It's not Dwarf Fortress. Good game though, a real sleeper in 4x genre, mostly because of a borderline retarded pricing policy.

Oh yeah, I meant if you want to dive in and do everything manual from the start. But yeah, for learning the game it's actually set up pretty well to have a ton of stuff automated and learn what you want on your own time. It's definitely a good/entertaining game that captures the "feel" of a space empire better than a lot of recent ones that have tried. Especially when starting pre-warp.

I have to say that the espionage portion is one of the best ones I've seen in any strategy game. I mean you can steal research, assassinate individual figures in an enemy empire, perform recon missions, destroy facilities, root out agents in your own empire, and I am probably forgetting something.

nobody objects about the single parts of the game. it's how they're glued together that sucks.

It's been on sale a few times recently at 50%, which made it $30 for me when I picked it up.

Yea, it's expensive by modern standards, but it's no where near as absurd as it was back when I pirated it years ago. I think the *base* game was still $50 with each of the expansions costing $20-30. As it stands, you're able to pick up the base game plus the four or so expansions for ~$60 off sale, which isn't a terrible price in the grand scheme of things.
