Programming a game without the source is like trying to fish with just your hands.
In a phrase, it can be made to work a bit, but fuck that.

Poll should have had more options such as "yes, and I'm extremely butthurt that people don't appreciate my work more" and "I'm a drog alt" and "qwinn".

Minor things. Example of my idea of modding is I swapped the original model of Torreador female vamp with Velvet Velour. Something simple and easy to do/repair.

Pretty much art assets only like models and textures, I hate the the implementation part though. So always nice to join a larger team where you can focus on making only the art and leaving the pesky implementation to some one else who likes that shit. I still have a ton of models and textures for a little mod project I was working on but that pretty died out since the game engine hated me whenever trying to implement it.

I tinkered with Tribes 1 and Homeworld (could do a lot of cool stuff with just a text editor in this), but thats about it. Never undertaken an actual project, just playing around.

Does trial and error offset hunting in the torment.exe for fixing stuff in higher resolutions count?

Used to do some scripting on the NWN1 multiplayer glory days, but now I just use other people mods, when avaiable.

Yes, but only for what actually bugs me - which could be nothing, a little, or a lot, depending on the game's interest/fuckedupness ratio.
    So, kingcomrade.

I mod interface and "high res" textures and the like.

Modding stuff that directly impacts the gameplay even in the slightest is cheating and I don't cheat.

Mostly just usability hacks and bugfixes. I would never bother releasing any of that stuff, though.

I've worked on more ambitious mods but I never finish anything complex for one reason or another.

I've built quite a lot of things for NWN2, meaning areas and scripting.

Did a couple of textures for FONV, but only for personal use and to go along with what you get when using the HD textures for FO3 by NMC in NV.

I made my own REAL MAN RULES change into FO2 weapons, but never released it. No idea where it is now, but the basic principle is that:
    RIFLES>>>PISTOLS (non-energy ones, at least)
    7,62 Rifles = MEGADETH.

Yeah, I've done a bit of modding. My 'greatest moment' was probably when I was part of a Half-Life modding team and managed to implement a plug-in which would play an MP3-file once you walked over a trigger.

As it was my first try at programming, it felt like quite an achievement adding a third-party plug-in to the source code, creating a new trigger-type for the map editor and finally hearing it play a music file when I walked over it in-game.

About any game I own play now is modded.

Barring some exceptions (Oblivion), modding can extend the life of a game tenfold.

Even if it doesn't, modding can be quite rewarding on its own.

I do not, but I pay lip service to those who do and defend their efforts when random people bitch about them on internet forums. And that + $1.95 will get those modders a small cup of coffee.
